  1. Not certain, but I believe it's because there are greater numbers of platinum and diamond cruisers on the earlier sailings, so there wouldn't be enough capacity to offer FTTF as well. That said, does that theory still hold once they are sailing out of Miami? Not sure.

    That makes sense!

  2. I am sailing on Horizon in November and am super excited! I was hoping to surprise my husband with FTTF and wrote to Carnival to ask about FTTF and received the following response saying FTTF will not be available on Horizon until December. I am disappointed, but still super excited about my cruise.Just curious why they won't be offering FTTF yet.

We are sorry to inform you that FTTF is not offered on Carnival Horizon until December of 2018.

Your sailing in November does not offer FTTF, and we know that this is not the answer you were looking for and apologize for any disappointment, but we do look forward to welcoming you on board for a Funtastic cruise vacation.

    Best Regards,

  3. I have been a WW for 18 months and lost 45 pounds total. On my last cruise (Carnival Breakaway) I focused on getting steps in and allowed myself to eat what I wanted. I took the stairs for the whole week and never used the elevator. I worked out in the gym every day. I ended up not gaining weight. So I think that staying active is the key! I will be on the Horizon next November and Guy's Burgers will be my downfall! Probably will take about 20,000 steps to work off one of those!

  4. We didn't notice the lounge one deck above O'Sheehan's until the last day. If you just want a place to sit and play cards/read/relax but don't care about having a server, this is a nice place to hang out.

TiffanyD, Wondering if there is a staircase from O'Sheehan's up to the 9th deck lounge you are describing. May seem like an odd question, but our cabin is on deck 9 near the lounge and I am just curious if there is a staircase there directly into O'Sheehan's. Thanks!

  5. Sailing dawn in June and bought a BD Balcony guarantee and was assigned BC balcony 9030 which looks like a great location. Just got the upgrade bid email and wondering if the mini suite is worth bidding on. Thinking no because I like our current location, but noise doesn’t bother me much and people have said the mini suites are a little bit larger which would be nice. Hmmm.... decisions, decisions. What do you all think?

  6. Hey all.... going on my first ever cruise in June and while booking we bought the Ultimate Beverage Package. Looking over the details I noticed that it includes any drink “up to $15”...... what’s the average drink price for normal drinks: Rum & coke, 7&7, glass o’ wine etc.

    Thanks!! Y’all rock!

You can also google "NCL 2018 drink prices" and look

under images- a whole bunch of photos of drink menus will pop up :) Enjoy your first cruise!!

  7. Great info, everyone! Thank you. We sail on Dawn this June and I just made reservations for Los Lobos, Cagney's, Le Bistro, Moderno, and La Cucina. Plan to have Sushi one night too. When last on the Dawn five years ago,we ate at Venetian the first night and were underwhelmed so ended up eating at specialty restaurants the remainder of the cruise and loved the variety of food and the different venues.

  8. I was wondering if anyone here has ever sailed both Carnival and NCL (especially Breakaway and/or Getaway) that might be willing to answer some questions for us? I have sailed both Carnival and NCL. Sailed on Breakaway in 2017

What differences, if any, are there in dress code? We are normally dress shorts or jeans/polo shirt on NON-elegant night and dress up for elegant night - is NCL similar? Dress code is pretty much the same. Le Bistro (Specialty French restaurant) might require long pantsvs shorts, but overall it isa very casual cruise

Do you need to reserve shows and specialty dining before you even board? If so, how far in advance? On Breakaway you will want to reserve shows and specialty restaurants online as soon as you are able, I think it is 90 days prior to sailing. You can always make changes or cancel if needed later, but certain restaurants fill up during prime dining times. In our experience, we were able to walk into specialty restaurants if we chose to eat late, after 8:30pm.

Are the cabins similar in size and amenities to their Carnival counterparts? It looks like the NCL cabins may be slightly less square footage. NCL cabins feel smaller, as do the balconies. I like the cabin storage better on Carnival because there are no drawers on NCL. The NCL bathrooms are nicer tho because they have the toilet separated from sink and shower by a door, and the shower has a glass door vs flimsy curtain. I don't remember there being any freebie toiletries on theBreakaway, just pump shampoo and soap in the shower.

Overall NCL and Carnival offer a similar experience. In our experience, the food in the main dining room was actually better on Carnival. Carnival menus change daily where NCL main dining room menus offer a lot less variety.

You will want to get Vibe passes if you are looking to sunbath on loungers- just do a search for Vibe in the NCL boards for info. Happy to answer more questions. Enjoy your cruise!

  9. Thank you Beachiekeen for a spectacular review! Your photos and detailed information are fantastic. We are sailing on the Dawn to Bermuda in mid June this year and can't wait. We did this cruise five years ago and loved it so we are excited to be on the Dawn again and to see the new upgrades since drydock. If you go back to Bermuda you might be interested in renting a Boston Whaler boat. We did this last time and have one booked again for this June. It is a small motor boat and you can zip around through little coves and inlets-loads of fun and definitely our favorite activity there. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with all of us!

  10. Carnival suites are not that big so you are much better off with two cabins. Two bathrooms as last poster pointed out and more privacy. 5 in a carnival suite would be very tight imo.

  11. That is a three day holiday weekend. Going by past precedent the ferry schedule would be the same. They don't change it on holidays. On Saturday and Sunday the public buses will run on the same limited schedules as they normally do on the weekend. Monday is a public holiday so the public buses that day will run on the limited Sunday and holidays schedule. Taxis will have a surcharge on Sunday and Monday. Most stores will be closed on Sunday and Monday in Hamilton and St. George's.

Thank you, Charles. I wonder where the carnival takes place.

  12. My husband and I are booked on NCL Dawn to Bermuda and will be in Bermuda June 17-19, 2018. I just read that the 4th annual Bermuda Heroes Carnival will be happening when we are there and am wondering how this might enhance/affect our visit. Anything we should plan ahead for, know in advance in terms of changes in bus/ferry schedules, where carnival activities take place, etc. There is a website bermudaheroesweekend dot com but it doesn't have all the info I am looking for. I am hoping someone was there last June and has info to share :)

  13. Angled balconies are on several decks. We stayed on deck 13 in cabin 13890 with an angled balcony. Google "ncl extra room angled balcony" for pics of these balconies. You can tell which cabins have the angled balconies by looking at the deck plans. There are just a few on each deck where the ship juts out forward and aft.

  14. We parked at the cruise port for convenience- it cost a lot (can't remember exact amount) but we had used credits for the cruise so it was an otherwise inexpensive vacation.

Since you have been on both classes of NCL ships you have a good sense of the different experiences. In Boston we park at my husband's seaport office for free, which is another plus for that port for us. Sounds like everything is pretty equal between Dawn and Breakaway for you. If you plan to book a balcony cabin, Breakaway has those nice angled balconies with more room for the price of a regular balcony. If everything were equal distance and equal cost for parking for us, I would choose the Breakaway for the nightlife!

  15. I have sailed on both Dawn and Breakaway. Just sailed on Breakaway in March 2017 and the parking coupon did not work. The Breakaway was a fun ship with lots to do. Loved the nightlife options, especially Second City Improv and the Jazz Club. The Dawn is a lot smaller, but a pretty ship with a nicer layout for the pool. We live in the Boston area so the convenience of the Dawn is worth giving up the perks of a larger ship for us. What are your key priorities for a ship?
