  1. Once a cruise is paid in full and you add the pre paid gratuities you have to pay them in full. There is not an option to make payments on tips.

In your cruise manager, not documents, they include taxes, ports charges and tips in the same line.

$241.50 is three passengers for a seven day cruise. If you had a zero balance before you added the tip. You should still have a zero balance now since you paid the $241.50.

Carnival should be able take the balance down to zero.

You may want to check and see if they added trip insurance at the same time. That could be the difference.

the problem she had a zero bal but by wanting to add in her gratuities is that they are NOW showing she owes like 248 more for her cruise and supposedly even carnival can't figure out why and even if she takes off the gratuities its still showing balance owed where prior was a zero bal. Carnival dropped it on this one.

  2. You've been on here for a long time ... take it with a grain of salt. Since we don't know each other's personalities, it's hard to really 'understand' someone else's perspective.

Their idea of low expectations could be different than yours or mine.

We are all entitled to our opinions of our cruise, but we all need to be very open-minded when reading the reviews and accept that the review is only one person's opinion. Think about how many people cruise that ship every week and how many are on here and how many of those people actually give their opinion.

Got to be a very small percentage. It's all good! Relax and enjoy! :D

Exactly!.. with over 3700 guests on board. can not expect everything to always be 100%. could be in one person's eyes, and not in another's eye or perspective.

We look at it as we are on vacation, thankfully we can do it. and go with the flow. sometimes yeah, something isn't always great, but still can be good. :)

  3. I have mentioned this a couple of times but haven't gotten a response.

If they did they could compare the 2 confirmations and see where the difference is and just tell CCL where the mistake is.

On the other hand I can't understand why nobody at CCL can do this also and figure it out on their end especially if CCL is the one that said the original price was not correct.

I think Mischelle needs to get involved if she isn't already over on Carnivals forum.

She is great at these kinds of things.

    Bill

I agree Bill, i did mention to the OP to go to the carnival boards and post there for carnival assistance. They seem to get to the right ppl to get things straightened out.

  4. the OP would be charged the 50 each and the bal would be held for a future cruise. they won't get any money back because its ES rate. I still think this is crap, I don't care what their "note" says. they booked, it was paid off now they want to collect more? I like carnival, I like that I can afford it over the other cruise lines. But this is frustrating even to us who are not even going through this. Stick to your guns OP, KEEP EMAILING/CALLING until its straightened out. and now you know to add in gratuities while booking. I'm glad I do this now seeing what your going through. Make sure they know this as well, had you NOT wanted to prepay your gratuities (which is better for the staff remind them) your balance would 99.99% still have been what you prepaid.

**still keeping my fingers crossed for you**

  5. DONT DO IT!.. the best thing to do for pre paying gratuities is to add it in WHEN BOOKING. that's how I always do it.

don't do it now, wait till you board!!. and the reason I say this is because another poster is having Big issues with carnival right now. they had paid off their cruise, then called to add the gratuities and now her zero balance has now changed to like 248 due PLUS the gratuities. she's been going back n forth with them right now to get it straightened out.

  6. I know they had changes to their future cruise program and did not really research that much before we left on our cruise. assuming there would be a future cruise desk on the valor (there is not) we asked guest services when the desk would be open. they said it won't be because of the amount of international passengers, but if we call after our cruise they will still honor the $100 on board credit. I have fought carnival tooth and nail for this credit and they won't budge. (again I know the policy so I don't need any clarification on that, I have been told 3 times by carnival now what the policy is) I'm just warning any future cruisers with carnival to be careful of their deceptive ways.

on the Victory 2012 they did not have a future cruise desk at all unlike the valor did when we cruised her. The old rule as you know, was yes, call within a week after cruise and purchase FCC. but alas, I too found out they no longer did this. was very bummed about this. now the only way to do get that 100 is to book while on the cruise. most times not able to do this myself.. but it is what it is.

  7. also a word to the wise when staying at hotels. The front desk will NEVER call your room and ask you for your credit card number.

There had been in the past that especially with hotels that you do not have to go thru the front desk can access the rooms by the system. they will call up and say that there was a problem with your card and could you read it back to them.

At our property, if we notice a problem with the guest's card after they leave to go to their room. we will call and say their card is not authorizing. If they wish to give us a different card to please come to the desk. Or notify their bank theres an issue and to call us back.

OP I'm glad you realized this was a scam. too many ppl will think things like this is true without verifying it. This would be scary for first time cruisers especially as other cruisers who have cruised before know that its only when we do our online check in do we put in our card information.

  8. I use a Carnival PVP and have her add the tips on and have never had an issue. If so, she always gets things settled for me. I know I can go through the 800# to book but I enjoy dealing with the same person and not whoever picks up the phone when you call.

OP, if you booked directly through Carnival, try to see if you can get your own PVP and have them help you sort this out. I think you can do that. Then you now have someone to book your cruises for you in the future if you decide to cruise again.

I as well have used the same PVP. I like dealing with the same person too lol. like calling up and having her pull up my info and say ok, whos going on this one.

  9. I was thinking of going in and pre-paying our tips for our cruise next week on a separate credit card from the one I'm going to use for our S&S acct. Now I think I'll just buy some Cruise Cash with that other card (and print out appropriate documentation of course!)

We always prepay our gratuities when we book the cruise. See'ing this OPS problems, i'm glad we do. I as well like to have as much of my cruise paid in advance this is why we add them in.

To the OP. if you haven't yet, go over to Carnival and go to Looking for carnival assistance and get Mary or Mischelle to look into this for you. they will ask you to forward information to them, but if you can not get through to carnival on the phone, I would say this is a good way to try as well.

  10. we've done 4 adults in a balcony. definitely do-able. but I always felt disorganized in it. lol in fact, our next cruise started out with 3 again like last cruise but the 4th decided she wanted to come along. but with the balcony definitely makes it do-able.

my daughter wants to try a cruise and as much as it would be nice to save a little $$ we will be getting 2 cabins. 3 in one and 2 in the other. :)

  11. Does the ship/cruise line have to make a public statement if there is the Noro virus?

they do if there is a certain percentage of ppl who came down with the flu. on a ship the size of the splendor it might equal like 5-10pp. can't remember the exact numbers. was watching a program a bit back from the cdc and they mentioned when a ship has to report it

just found in cdc site. when 2% are reported sick they have to notify cdc

  12. I would be freaking out too.. wow.. glad it all worked out for him and his friend in the end. and I agree, between carnival forums and cruise critic I was as prepared as one could be for our first cruise. always such a wealth of information and if more ppl did their research they would know more instead of b*tching about this or that. lmao.

  13. then if you get points go for it. BUT, I would make sure with carnival if it can be used for the cheers program. the bar and photo cards are only good for those two things and if you don't use it up, you lose any $$ balance. I like getting points on my card, but imo I would just rather prepurchase the cruise cash card and that way it can be used for anything on the ship. but again, just remember not to purchase too many or you'll lose any bal left over
