  1. Sounds like the trip that we are doing in a couple weeks. I just got a prescription for Diamox from my doctor just in case. We will be in Puno for three nights and that has an elevation of 12428 feet.

Lived in Quito for 1.5 yrs..its at 9300 ft.....1 should take altitude sickness very seriously. make sure you read up on it and hopefully the Dr went over Diamox. Its not going to do you much good if you start to take it the day u arrive in Puno. 1 usually starts 2-3 days prior....Keep in mind it is a diuretic, so you may be going to the bathroom more.....Studies have shown Ibuprofen (600mg) to be just as effective as Diamox. Stay hydrated and take it easy. many get to altitude, feel great, and think all is well....then bam, it hits them and they are in a lot of pain! Their is my RN sermon for the day,lol Enjoy the trip.

  2. Anyone interested in joining us on a Stravaigin tour when the Caribbean Princess visits Glasgow on July 25, 2016? We are a family of four, and the tour we have booked will accommodate eight. TripAdvisor gives Stravaigin as close to a five-star rating as one can get. Here's the web page. http://stravaigin-scotland.com/

  5. There are kiosks everywhere that sell discounted tours (many right by the main train station). We used Viator.com to book many of our tours....but to get the actual tickets we had to go to certain discount ticket kiosks....dont think we saved any $$$ going via viator.com.

But one can see the various tours available on Viator.com... We did a night walk of the red Light district..very interesting tour that started later in the evening.

Toured the Heineken beer factory....Neat tour and what was very neat was that it also included a free (narrated) canal boat ride back to their downtown store....

Did a relaxing pizza canal supper 1 evening....food was pretty decent, and drank a lot of beer, lol

Check out viator, can get a lot of ideas from that site

  6. That walking tour looks very interesting! I may do that instead.

I will email them about times and stuff. I travel on my own and I see

they have minimum of 2 people....maybe they have other folks on the

same day as I would need.

Anne Frank may already be sold out..I hear they sell out very quickly..but keep checking!

He only does small groups...I think we were a group of 6 or 7 (1 gal was on her own)......He sends you a pile of info before the tour....so u can read up on it prior....and then sends you more info after the tour.....The pace of the walk is very leisurely as well...stop for coffee half way through....If one is going to spend some time in Amsterdam, would be great to do it at the beginning of your stay, as the tour would help orient you to the city.

  7. 6 months? Things must have changed.......

I am looking at the website and there is a sentence at the top that says

    the following:

"There is only a limited amount of online tickets available for each time slot. Entrance tickets become available on the website about two months in advance. If online tickets are sold out, you can always buy a ticket at the entrance to the museum."

I am going in April and it still show nothing available for April:eek:

Looking at my email.....Purchased online tickets Feb 17 2015 for an Aug 8th 2015 , 10 am tour.

There was already a HUGE line up when we walked by at 0900ish.....It was an interesting tour....but not worth waiting in line that long for.

If your interested in WWII history and like a nice leisurely walk, highly recommend this tour: http://www.historywalks.eu/ It started at the Anne Frank house (didnt go inside, was just the starting point of the tour) Peter gives an awesome narrative tour....simply awesome!! Small group and you get to see a fair bit.....Can't say enough how informative it was.

  8. I was told tickets are available online about 6 months out....That's about when they came available for our August 2015 date....And like what others have stated, they only have a limited # available. A guide at the house told us the line can be 5+ hours long at times.....

  9. Sailing on the Summit from NJ on Sept 4 2016. Looking for 1 or 2 couples to join us for tour of Halifax with Halifax Cruise Ship Taxi Tours. Tour is 4 1/2 hours and a van of 6 costs $270. Right now just my wife and I looking to share the cost and enjoy the tour with others. If interested respond to mleveene@hotmail.com

best to post in ur roll call http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2134106

    Make sure u get a DONAIR......yum!!

  10. We were on the Celebrity Silhouette this past August and docked (originally were suppose to tender) Celebrity charged for their Shuttle.....We took a tax from the ship to the Trinity college area and it was 11 (whatever the currency was, lol) the first day, and like 13 or 14 the second day. We walked back to the ship both days, was a very easy 1 hour walk ( we took our time) There are hop on/off buses that go further up closer to the ship one can take (but not super close) The more popular buses seem to be the red and green ones. You can buy tickets online! The Dublin pass (bought online) comes in very handy as well

  11. We did La Havre to the Canadian Sectors this past August with https://www.label-west.com/ Was just my wife and I. Had a great experience, they really tailored the tour to what I wanted to see. Keep in mind many tour companies--including overlord....use smaller vans....They say they can take 8..but u are a cramped 8....2 rows of 3 people in the rear and then 2 up front..... Not knocking them, as many love them, but I talked with a few and they stated they were cramped! Just something to keep in mind. There are a great # of companies/tour guides, but you need to book well advance as they book up very fast. Lot of great reviews on trip adviser!

  12. Been on the Silhouette twice..both times A2.....We prefer being in the aft part of the ship (cabins 1648 and 1650), find it very quiet! Some of the A1 cabins are under some noisier areas, such as the pool and gym, so 1 has to watch out for those area. Check out the CABIN sticky at the top of the main celebrity page.

  13. The dry dock was suppose to be completed about a month ago, and I believe it was suppose to have taken 2-3 weeks.

I don't know if the air conditioning problem was taken care of. We switched our cabin from deck 3 to 4 because of it. We are sailing mid December and will write a review upon our return.

In Quito now....Ensure u have travel insurance as Cotopaxi volcano is actively spewing out gas/ash...could stay this way for days, months or years..or it could explode........Enjoy

  14. On both our 2 celebrity sailings, we had the "free" classic pkg. Both cruises were around 2 weeks in duration and very port intensive. We drank plenty of specialty coffees, beer, rum/coke.....and at the end of the cruise, when I added up the total drink bill.....would have been better off to pay as we go. many times I just got a drink (beer, rum/coke..coffee) just to get 1, as it was "free" not that I really wanted one. But you have to know ur own drinking style.....one can wait until you get on the ship to purchase a pkg

  15. That's very true in the MDR. Each Specialty Restaurant has a named Maître 'd. For example my friend Jovel is the Blu Maître 'd on Silhouette. At least I hope he's still on the ship when I board in a week and a half. He's also been Maître 'd in Qsine, Tuscan Grille and the Oceanview. As I said they move around.

He was not the Maitre D in Blu on our August British Isle cruise....

  16. we walked back from the downtown area to the ship (Celebrity Silhouette) took just over an hour at a leisurely stroll. We took a Taxi from the ship to the downtown area..was around 12 Euro. The HOHO bus can get u somewhat close to the ship, maybe a 20 min walk. We did the Green HOHO....Some buses it was recorded, some live commentary. I think their may have been a few more red buses though, but we were very happy with the Green!

  17. well its comforting to know that I am not alone on CC amongst all the terrifying zealots within the dress code & tip enforcing police forces.

Was beginning to wonder whether I should cancel my next boat trip in January. Mind you my friends from Canadia would probably help protect me.

Maybe--if they are Leaf Fans(hockey)--they won't put up much of a fight (Canadian myself) On my 2 Celebrity cruises (Aqua class) many dressed up on Formal nights..some like myself stayed smart casual! I never felt out of place, then again, I really don't care what others think (in a polite way.lol) I saw people in shorts and wife beater shirts on formal nights walking around (and in theater) and I saw people dressed to the 9's on non-formal nights. I find the celebrity experience, nothing like these forums...... People are very polite and mind their own business, lol

  18. I would agree with this post if it wasnt for fear of the Fashion Police [emoji12] Not sure who has the most fearsome reputation - them or the Tipping militia .

Ashamed to admit that when on the boat I dont go looking for issues like dress code infringements or tip evasion. Really sorry to admit that I prefer to have fun with my fellow cruisists and the wonderful staff.

Is there a penance to pay ?

99.9% of the people are the same as u......only issue is here on Cruise critic.
