  1. I book in advance.......8-12 months or more.. I shop until I know that I have a good price. I have tried to book on the ship. Every time, I have found that I can do better. On my last cruise, the price that I was given for my next cruise was much higher than what I paid.......almost double. I have friends who think that they are getting a good deal booking while sailing. They also do not shop prices. Usually they go to a local TA and just pay whatever. For them, they got a deal. Shopping for better fares takes time. I am retired and can take time to shop. my advice is to look at cruise before you sail. Know where you want to sail and know what the fares are. That way, you can compare fares. Do not let the holiday spirit sway you into booking blindly.......unless money is no object!

  2. Just the thought of bed bugs makes me sick. It has become a real problem. Once bed bugs invade, it is very hard to get rid of them. What I don't understand is why Azamara moved you back into the infested cabin. If it had been me, there would be no way that I could have stayed in that cabin. You deserve compensation......and not future cruise credits. I hope that you get reimbursed for your expenses. Have you talked to customer service?

  3. On my first riverboat cruise, we paid about $1500 extra/week for the french balcony. What a rip off. $1500 for a window that can open is outrageous. In some places, when the ship slowed down, we had bugs fly into our room. Yuck. Now I book the cheapest room. All the rooms are small. Not the type that you'd want to spend any long periods of time except to sleep. Save your money and skip the french balcony. I know that there are some ships that have a real balcony room. Not sure the cost would be worth it.

  4. Nothing will keep a thief from taking your stuff. Don't bring anything that you really value. I lost some very nice clothes...and I got my luggage with the locks still on. I now bring old clothes that aren't designer. They still look good, but aren't worth much. Thieves will still be out therre. Just bring stuff that they won't really want. Also, never bring what looks like an expensive suitcase. That is a target. Instead, get an ordinary bag.

  5. Read reviews. They can be helpful. If everyone loves a line, it's probably good. If everyone hates a line, stay away. I've picked up a lot of good advice on Cruise Critic and from other web review sites. I also ask my family and friends. Those are people whose tastes you know. For example, I have a friend who is very picky. I've she loves a cruise, tour, or hotel, it's going to be fabulous. She may not be the most charming person, but I really value her opinions. Using her for opinions has proven to be my best choice. I also have one friend who loves almost everything...lovely lady ...always happy...don't put much faith in her opinions. Talk with trusted friends and family. Also, unless you want to bring friends and family on your vacation, don't be specific on dates and places. I have a lot of friends who love to travel with me...nice if you want to bring a ganag, but there are times when I want to travel with only my spouse. My friends like Uniworld and AMAwaterways. Ms. Picky doesn't like Vantage, Grand Circle or Viking. I'm on AMAwaterways in May. I'm sure it will great.

  6. I did a bridge tour in April. It was great. I also did a galley tour. We also were invited to dine with the cruise director. The cruise director also wined and dined us on several occasions. We ate at the captain's table. We do cruise frequently. We are elite and people seem to enjoy our company. Be happy, be pleasant, and maybe you will also be treated to some perks.

  7. I used to look forward to specialty restaurants. However, they are not all that good. Unfortunately, they are not counting on repeat business. The worst was The Olympic on the Millenium. Horrible and they double charged us for the experience. Bad food...overcooked, slow service, and attitude. The best is Prime C on the Journey. Aquilina on the Journey is not that good. I've eaten in Prime C 5 times and loved it every time.

  8. Wearing badly fitting formal clothes looks bad. A shirt that is too tight should be given away. Bring only clothes that fit correctly...or just a bit loose if you plan on eating a lot. Celebrity should follow the lead of Azamara which does not expect formal attire, but says that if you prefer to wear formal attire, you are certainly welcome. On my last Azamara cruise, most people wore very nicely well fitting attire...and some wore formal attire especially in the specialty restaurants. I did not wear anything formal and felt fine in all dining venues...MDR, buffet, pool deck, and specialty restaurants. I am an responsible adult and will choose my attire as I see fit...and it will fit well.
