They are really good steps with railings. There are quite a few but they are spread out so you are walking in between. You can go at your own pace.

allentownahoy, did you reserve a car ahead of time?

That's great information. Thank you for posting this.

An extra day in a great boutique hotel would look after jet lag. We stayed in the lovely Rose Apple and I highly recommend it. Quiet, clean, friendly, great breakfast, wonderful pool and walking distance to lots of great restaurants.

The further north you go the later they turn colour. Only a few red maples have turned here. It has been a record dry summer and some trees are stressed which may make them turn early but generally for Nova Scotia the peak time is the second to third week of October.

If you really want to go by ship check out this site and see if there is anything for you there: http://cruisepeople.co.uk/freighters.htm

We spent four days in Siem Reap (base for Angkor Wat) and could easily have spent more. It was hot and dry in November when we were there. To me if you can't have at least three days there it would not be worth going.

We were on G Adventures Expedition last Feb/March. It was wonderful beyond words. There are no cabins with balconies which is the norm. The food and comfort were suberb and Antarctica is beyond beautiful and amazing.
On our ship we had a 19 year old with his family and all ages well represented up to in the 80s.
Do check out that wonderful resource mentioned above: Travel to the Poles.

And both some cruise ship companies and some travel agents give out incorrect information. Ours was with respect to Egypt. I had done my homework here but had to work to convince people going with us that they did not have to fork out for an expensive visa.
You have to do your own homework: check online, contact the ship and research here carefully.

We were not on a cruise, but drove to Montenegro for a day from Dubrovnik. I believe there are taxis at the port in Kotor and it is not far to where the boats to Perast leave. We ended up not going to Perast choosing to drive around the bay, climb up the hill in Kotor as far as the old church to see the view, and have lunch and wander about the town. It was a wonderful day. We made sure in planning to avoid cruise ships in Dubrovnik and Montenegro!
Post your questions on Trip Advisor and you may get more answers. Also do a google search for the Perast ferry information.

You can hand them on your cabin wall with a magnet hook purchased at a dollar store. We found that more convenient than the bathroom door where if hung on the outside it is in the way of the hallway in your room.

From notes I have taken:
Tours Vieux Quebec, toursvieuxquebec.com, goes out to the falls, plus offers other tours of the area you might enjoy. A 4 hour tour includes the falls, Ile d'Orleans, St. Anne de Beaupre, plus a small bakery which offers some of the best bread and maple butter ever!!
if you only wanted to go on your own at your own pace, you can go by public bus. Metrobus #800 goes to the Parc de la Chute Montmorency. You can get on at the D'Youville stop close to Palace Royal hotel (make sure you're on the hotel side of the street, bus would need to show "Beauport" as its destination). It would be about a 35-40 minutes ride to the avenue Royale/des Rapides stop.

I cannot find a lobster boat tour out of Halifax.
Murphy's offer several boat tours: http://www.mtcw.ca/
There is a boat tour out of Peggy's Cove: http://www.peggyscoveboattours.com/tours.html
The provincial tourism website has nothing out of Halifax: http://www.novascotia.com/explore/top-25/lobster

Yes it is the fee to enter the National Park.

In Halifax most ships dock at Pier 21 or 22. Here are two maps: http://cruisehalifax.ca/our-port/facilities/

I have only seen the penguins from Ushuaia (and Antarctica). We really enjoyed our Piratour to see the penguins from Ushuaia. It takes most of your day. We walked among magellanic and gentoo penquins and there were two stray king penquins there too.
Here are two email addresses to try. They are slow to respond but they did when I said I definitely wanted to make a booking. operaciones@piratour.net info@piratour.net

Tourist shops and restaurants will be open. We generally have a feast (turkey for us.)

Is this a tour offered by the ship or is it from this company? http://gofundytours.ca/
This company is based in Saint John, New Brunswick, not Halifax.
THE PRICE IS 495.00 CAD (includes up to 6 people)You do not need six people but the price stays the same even if you do not have six.

It is magical in the off season when the day trippers are gone. We have been twice in October and loved it.

I have read that there are taxis at the dock willing to take you to various places. And yes local busses do go there:
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1863077
Here is the bus website but I think you are better off just asking as the people in the post above did: http://www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/documents/routemap.pdf

The cash fare for Metro Transit in Halifax is $2.50CAD and you do need exact change. https://www.halifax.ca/transit/fares.php
The busses do not go up Citadel Hill. You can walk but it is a steep climb.

Here is a really great site. I would double check all information but it helps sort options out: https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Quebec/Montreal

Halifax has a very expensive Ho-Ho pink bus: http://www.grayline.com/tours/halifax/halifax-hop-on-hop-off-5858_21/
However if you are able to walk there is no need for a bus along the waterfront. You can take a taxi to the Citadel if you wish.
For going to Peggy's Cove and/or Lunenburg either renting a car or taking an excursion is the way to go.

I agree. We had 130 on G Adventures Expedition wit 20 kayaking and 10 or so on zodiac cruises we had lots of time on land. I never once felt I would have liked to stay longer.
In addition a much larger ship could not have gone to some of the places we did and in other places would have had to anchor further from shore making for longer zodiac trips.
I thought our ship was wonderful: extremely comfortable and the food was amazing with lots of variety and choice.
