Today marks 43 years since my Dad died at the age of 61.  He was a Foreman working on the 2nd Avenue Subway project when he fell down 25 feet, head first.  He was a very healthy, strong man who never smoked in his life.  He remained in a coma for a week before finally passing, which was a Blessing, due to his extensive injuries.

    That is so sad. Sorry.😔

It was nice of them to tell her to bring headphones. The least the hospital could’ve done was to supply some cheap earplugs for me.

I definitely understand about not wanting to miss out on some important announcement. When out and about or especially when walking I will only wear one ear bud. I want to hear what’s going on around me. I used to be able to hear cars coming up behind me, but now with electric cars it’s a little unnerving.

These buds also have a setting to bring in outside sounds. So I can bike, listen to music, and still hear environmental sounds, like traffic, around me.

I am getting very excited because we are going on the Beyond for a 6 night cruise, in 12 days. Ports are Coco Cay, Grand Cayman and Bimini.

Never been to Bimini before. Could have chosen more "interesting" itinerary but this is what Celebrity allowed us to move our reservations to after cancelling a couple of Beyond sailings that would have had some date conflicts.
We have been on the Edge three times and I loved it. I hope ours is not a "rattling" room that people are complaining about.

But my major excitement is about the small possibility that Captain Kate will be on board.....either as Captain or cruiser. And those mini lemon meringue tarts at Bacio.......😁🥰 umm umm umm!

Capt. Kate does daily short videos on YouTube. She was supposed to start her off rotation I think a week or two ago but her contract was extended for a couple of weeks for a reason that I don't remember. I don't know if she has another 12 days left or not.

I didn't really care for her at first as I thought she was kind of a "showboater" sort of like Capt. Johnny on RCI. However, she has grown on me. I find her daily videos informative and entertaining. I think she said something about visiting another X ship when she leaves Beyond where she is meeting up with some friends including Capt. Sandy from Below Deck. I hope you get to sail with her. I'm just not sure of her departure date from Beyond.

If you check their total compensation for 2023 (public company, public record), I think you can eliminate the first three. Upper executives were well in the millions, with the CEOs total about $17,000,000, up from a measly 10.700,000 the previous year. Any other guesses?

Yet folks who post on these boards justify every cutback by RCI because of the shutdown and debt while management takes care of itself.

My little toe on each foot needed to be corrected. The dr didn’t mention anything about having a choice of local or general anesthesia when I had my first foot done and he did it under general. Ended up with a different dr due to a change in insurance for my second foot. He gave me the option of either one. He said he preferred the local and it sounded fine to me. I don’t remember him mentioning I would be awake. He probably did, but I probably didn’t want to think about it. He also explained what he would be doing. Part of it was that he would be using a saw like a hacksaw (his words), but a medical one. I didn’t really think much about it.

Anyway, day of surgery they get me ready and drape a sheet over my stomach so I couldn’t see my feet. Needless to say, being awake I could hear the saw going to work. 🫨 I started to freak out (inwardly) and was telling them I could hear it. Dr asked if I could feel any pain. No, but I could feel him touching me. No pain, but just a light touching on my foot. Ok, no problem he says and he continues. I continue to tell him I can hear it. I guess he wasn’t that concerned since I told him I still felt no pain.

It was probably after my third complaint about hearing the noise that the nurse tells the anesthesiologist that she had brought her Walkman (this was about 37 years ago) in to work. He tells her to go get it. They put that on me and I was happy I couldn’t hear the sawing, but my mind was having all kinds of visions about what was going on with my foot. If I’m ever in that position again, I’ll definitely be bringing ear plugs.

Interesting that you mention ear plugs. This past Christmas I got a new set of noise cancelling ear buds that connect by blue tooth to my phone. When I activate the noise cancelling it is a bit eerie how it blocks out the surrounding world. It actually bothers me to be so disconnected from my surroundings. I get concerned during flights that I'll miss an anouncement about something. I guess I have way too much FOMO. However, they would probably be great in the OR during surgery IF I were ever to be on the wrong side of the table rail.

Do any of you have a true home theater setup, and if so, what remote do you use?

I have an Onkyo 7.1 receiver (center channel, front L&R, side L&R, rear L&R, plus subwoofer). My Sony tv is connected to it, as is a dvd player, Apple TV box, and Roku box.  I have been controlling everything with a Logitech Harmony 650 programmable remote.

The thing I liked about the Harmony is it made everything a one button operation.  Press watch a movie, and it would turn on the tv, change the source to the dvd, turn on the dvd player, turn on the surround receiver, and it would be ready to go.  Same with everything else, it would automatically switch inputs and power devices on and off.

It always worked great when I had a cable box, but since switching to Roku and using the cable provider app, the remote occasionally gets confused.  I started looking for a new programmable remote, but it appears Harmony stopped making them.  Maybe with so many going with sound bars and smart tvs, there wasn’t a big enough market for programmable remotes.

    Just curious what others use.

For ours I still have the Harmony and it still works great. It’s been so long with tech advances I’m not sure what’s best now. Sorry I couldn’t help.

I've been using the LG learning remote that came with my TV. However, like Sea Dog, I put this all together a long time ago and have not really kept up so I'm of no help. Somehow, I managed to get an LG TV, Sony receiver, Sony DVD player, and cable box to all like each other.🤷‍♂️

That happens to me occasionally when using my laptop.  Then it'll correct itself after a few hours.

I don't think I noticed it on my phone.

I've noticed it on my phone. I also get issues when I press the icon to see who has liked one of my posts. When I then tap that person it is not connected to any post at all. Later it will correct as if things get back in synch.

I was personally told this at the hospital musculoskeletal department last April 2023 when they suggested hip replacement for me.

I was awake and watched the TV screen while having a colonoscopy 15 years ago.

I watched the TV screen while having a cardiac stent put into my circumflex artery during an angioplasty op following my heart attack in December 2019.

Plenty of people decline meds for colonoscopies. Though I understand it is more common in Europe. Angioplasty and stent placement don't require meds. I've never heard of someone being awake for a hip. Maybe Americans are just wimps.

Marcel is definitely loving that. We have a cat that loves to have the insides of her ears rubbed. I’ve never had a cat that liked that so I thought maybe she had ear mites. Nope, she just likes her ears rubbed. In fact, she will start to drool when Mike gets a little inside her ear. Eew!

Jade likes to have her ears rubbed also.
