I wasn’t really interested in cruising on the new, bigger ships, but John’s videos did what they were supposed to do and made me want to experience it.  Since I already have cruises booked for 2022 and 2023, I was looking at early 2024. Unfortunately, I wasn’t thrilled with Mardi Gras itineraries (just a personal thing), so I booked Celebration for a January b2b.  Sister ship, but I’m looking forward to seeing all it has to offer.  And from the looks of her, I’ll need those two weeks just to find everything, lol.

John’s videos did what they were supposed to do and made me want to experience it.  What video?  Can you provide a link?  Thank you! 🙂

  2. We canceled March 11 (?) I think, yet still have another cruise booked.  We have not received a refund back to our Mastercard, even though Carnival shows it as 'processed.'  We've spoken to Carnival twice already, and they said "with all that's going on, it might take awhile, up to 90 days."

Is anyone else having this issue?  I can't imagine why it would take so long.

    TIA!

  3. I'm an oddball who prefers the Conquest ships over the Dream class.

That might all change after we sail the Vista next September.:D

Don't get me wrong though, We've enjoyed every Carnival cruise we've sailed. (it's Carnival!) I just like the layout of the Conquest ships (especially the Promenade.)

  4. NCL pros

2 x a day service. I believe the gratuities were $1 a day pp more, but worth it to us.

I know we can ask for 2 x a day service on Carnival and I will from now on. We've tried morning and we've tried evening and we have found that we really appreciate 2 times.

Are you talking about housekeeping service?

  5. Never have used poo-pourri (can't find it?) However, I always carry Lysol travel-size spray. It works! As the commercials say "kills the germs that cause the odors."

I buy it at Wal-Mart, in the travel-size section. Where do you buy poo-pourri?

  6. For us, the food was much better (dining rooms, and buffet) on NCL and Carnival (Carnival has Guy's Burgers and Fries! :))

However, we like that RCI sails to Costa Maya (our favorite western port,) out of Galveston.

NCL has incredible drop slides and their freestyle dining is very under-rated. They have the best (and most frequent) deals on drink packages.

I'd be happy with any of them. Good luck deciding!:)

  7. I don't think it's fair they let you bring some alcohol on board if celebrating like an anniversary. We don't drink, but would like to bring some pop on. I could take a chance, but sense there's a chance it'll be taken away I'm not going to bother.

We've always take our own soft drinks onboard, and never had them confiscated. We sail Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston. We drink Dr Pepper, and it's not available on Royal. We take the chance and figure the most we'll be out (if confiscated) is a few dollars.

  8. Going there next month for the first time. Already reserved a spot at Tropicante. I've read the mixed reviews but I'm thinking it must be better than Progresso.

    This!

Our family used to think Costa Maya was a 'wasted' port too. Now, it's our favorite western port! Great beach at Tropicante, wonderful food, cheap drinks and the most inexpensive massages right under the palm trees.:)

  9. No guarantee offered. But in my experience Princess seems to have many less people lacking class such as those men wearing tank tops and sweaty baseball caps in the MDR at dinner, and people trying to max their 15 drinks on Cheers "because they paid for them!" ....regardless of whether they should. Or even worse - stealing by sharing Cheers and trying to justify it.

In reading both the Carnival and Princess boards I find that Princess has less people trying to share the drink package or wondering exactly how casual they can dress on elegant evening.

There is a difference in mindset that I sense and experience when dealing with Princess. It's not stuffy but simply classic without being opulent or 5 star.

Don't get me wrong - I have 3 Carnival cruises booked and 1 Princess. We will continue to sail Carnival as it is good bang for the buck but if even up, I will be choosing Princess.

    Very well stated, thank you!(y)

I only wish Princess offered Caribbean itineraries in the summer. We'd sail them again in a heartbeat.

  10. Thank you for your review.

We might sail the Vista when she moves to Galveston (late 2018,) and this is good to know.

I'm a Promenade 'people-watcher,' too. It's my favorite relaxing activity. Interesting too, because when Carnival debuted the "Dream," I realize I didn't like it as well as the Conquest ships. The Promenade seemed 'darker."

My favorite ships on Carnival are Liberty, Freedom and Glory. I also like the Triumph. Plenty of brightly-lit Promenade seating.

We'll be on the Freedom again in a few weeks. We can't wait!
