  1. Don't waste their time or yours though calling too early. Two weeks before sailing is the EARLIEST most report any success. When I called for my cruise, Monday 12 days before my Saturday cruise, I was polite and just inquired. They said no. I called back 10 days prior and was polite, they upgraded me to a balcony from inside for $300 total.

    There is no secret formula.

More great info thanks for posting. We are 19 days out and have an obstructed ocean view and would gladly pay $300 for a balcony upgrade.

  2. we've only done dcl, so we're a bit nervous about trying other lines but b/c of the deal that they were offering we did book the getaway for next year. We love dcl due to cleanliness of the ship and great customer service. would you say that dcl and the getaway are comparable in terms of service/cleanliness?

Having been on both I can say that both cruise lines have excellent service and are equally clean.

  3. I so agree with the price being much better! I am excited to try out "free style" dining also! So used to requesting that early dinner seating ;) I think today we narrowed down our decision for St. Thomas to Magens Bay or Coki. I read some reviews on Trip Advisor that scared me about Coki though  Did you feel safe? Your excursion to the Baths, did you arrange this through NCL? We did! Very excited to see this!! Did you guys pack a few waters and take with you? Sorry to be so full of questions :)

We felt just fine at Coki, and didn't have any issues with safety.

Yes, we booked our Baths excursion through NCL. We purchased drinks on the beach instead of taking them with us.

    :)

  4. Welcome back!! Curious to see if you would mind sharing what you done for your excursions. I have ours all booked with the exception of St. Thomas. My DH and I have been there before and can't decide what we want our DD's and my parents to see. :) What type of room did you have also? We are excited for Burn the Floor and Legally Blonde. This will be our first NCl cruise. Our previous cruises have been with DCL too!! :)

We had a balcony for DH and me, and our DD and her best friend had an interior. We might sound like boring cruisers, but we didn't see any shows. :( Legally Blonde was sold out though. We loved the casino and 'game shows' in the Atrium. The only excursion we did was the Baths in Tortola. It's an absolute MUST DO! Most beautiful beach ever. We can't wait to go back there. We went to Coki Beach when we were in St. Thomas. It was wonderfully warm water. The beach was somewhat crowded, but that was okay. We rented loungers and an umbrella. For Nassau, we just got off for about one hour (to shop, but we learned then that all stores were closed, for Nassau's Labor Day.) We seized that chance to get back onboard and ride the water-slides.

Hope you have a great time! (DCL will always be our favorite, but NCL is a very-close second. The price is much better too!)

  5. We had a wonderful time!

It was our first experience with nontraditional dining (I wasn't so sure how well I'd like it.) We LOVED it! No more traditional dining times for us (except of course, on DCL.) It was so great to dine where we wanted WHEN we wanted. It was our first experience too, with the UBP. What a great DEAL! It was FREE! We're planning to book the Escape for next July.

We had excellent customer service. Loved the live bands too. DH and our 20 year-old DD loved the water-slides and the 'walk the plank' ropes course which, they each did twice (I'm too scared, LOL.)

Looking forward to sailing NCL again!

  6. High heels KILL my feet. I have to send my formal clothes to be pressed, once they're unpacked. It takes time to pack coordinating pieces of matching jewelry. Oops, we need to take your suit to the dry-cleaners (to-do list before we leave.) The list goes on and on.

This is what our family endures every time we cruise. We wouldn't have it any other way though, as we LOVE formal nights.

Our first NCL is in a few weeks, and we're looking forward to the optional dress-up night.

    To each his own.

  7. You know how the senior officers encourage you to bring anything to their attention directly if it is unsatisfactory while you are at the meet n greet? Perfect time to express our dissatisfaction with the price increases. Will you speak up?

It is a meet and mingle not a gripe and moan get together. They have no say so with the new price increases. I you do not like the price increases start emailing the top Executives.

  8. We are looking forward to our up coming cruise on the Getaway this May and saw that you can get a lobster roll on sea days on the board walk ( up charge)....We love a good Maine lobster roll and would like some feed back on quality and size...worth the $10 price?

  9. We are sailing on the Getaway in May and are planing out our specialty dining, I would like some feed back from some of you that have done the Italian restaurant is it worth paying extra? We like good Italian food but see the the up charge is only $15pp so is it more like Olive Garden that I can get back at home? ( and no I do not consider Olive Garden good Italian food)

    TIA
