The rules about ship excursions first in St Petersburg kicks in when 5 or more ships are expected to be in town
-
I just got back from a Baltic cruise and noticed on the first day when I took a ship sponsored shore excursion that they were not letting independent tours pick up for the first 90 min after the ship arrived. They are doing that only on days when there are 5 or more ships in as on those days the port gives the 5 company’s that do the ships tours priority. the terminal building has four immigration rooms with 10 booths each they use 2 to 3 rooms depending on the ship. Also be aware the ship may use a ticket system for disembarkation similar to tender tickets. Bring a light jacket Since the weather in St. Petersburg is a bit unpredictable

If adventure has sport 24 then they may have nhl. The intermission features are replaced with hockey 101 things that explains the game. Navigator has this Channel

My brother once played the piano in the main dining room during dinner And made $50 in tips This was on the pride of America The entertainment director would know the exact schedule for each the pianos and may be able to accommodate your request to use the piano for practice port days in the morning will be the best time some lounges may also be available in the afternoon .

Princess mistook a qi charger for cellphone for a hot plate. So I had to visit them. One said kettle. Other said hot plate. Label said cooker

On regal they have it every other night using the rear seating area in horizon court on the port side. Access to Horizon court and crab shack entrance from the aft elevators is from the starboard side only as to avoid a high traffic corridor through the crab shack. It looked to be the busiest of the Specialty restaurants as it was busy compared to other ones every time I walk by

Princess does not allow kettles in the cabin as it is a fire hazard. Royal Caribbean has them in all suites for all cruises and all state rooms on the ship when a ship is based in the UK.

Explorer has 4 in the windjammer. 2 on each side and 2 on the promanade

I just got off the regal. for Talllin and Helsinki. There are shuttles that will take you from the pier to town that approximately 10 euros for round-trip
St. Petersburg there is no Russian visa required if you are booked on a escorted tour . You can use the ships tours or the private ones mentioned on other posts. The ships tours also come with priority for immigration Which takes time.
Copenhagen The port is a bit of a way from town however hop on hop off tour bus does come by the ship
Stockholm is about a hour away from Nynäshamn A excursion is recommended for Stockholm If you want to do activities on your own princess offers stockholm on your own which is just a bus transfer to and from
Oslo is in walking distance from theship

Royal has switched to by request and princess is trying that on the bars by the pool. NCL is now going to be the only cruise line in compliance with the straw Ban The city of Vancouver has recently introduced going into effect June 1, 2019
Royal and princess still provide straws for frozen drinks and on princess a reusable straw comes with the cup you get with the soda package

I wonder what happens with the lifeguards when there is a crew drill in a port. Do they have to close the pool to participate in the drill and do all take part or do they alternate drills to keep at least 1 pool open

The shows are different from ship to ship. Some ships have 2 different shows. And a show for the top tier event usually put together by the cast
-
If you do have to wait for boarding you will have priority boarding as you are in a suite .

I took the best of st Petersburg 2 day tour thru the ship. Be aware that Russian immigration is a lengthy process and ships tours are given first priority for immigration. Guests not on a tour had to go to the concerto dining room when ready to go and get a ticket for immigration. It is the same as tendering

Some ships the captain noontime announcements are shipwide including the cabins like how muster drill is broadcasted

Should be a good cruise. On regal at the moment. With the exception of Warnemunde and one morning in St. Petersburg the weather was fantastic. St. Petersburg is the most likely place for rain (. The weather changed to sun by the afternoon ) and Warnemunde we were delayed arriving due to fog. The captain extended the port stay however all Berlin tours were canceled. It is not likely to happen again as it is not normal to fog dense enough to close the port . Regal is a lovely ship. I have enjoyed my time onboard

On Navigators recent there were 5 ambulances that met the ship including 2 at the same port. I have heard at least 1 alpha call per cruise . Even heard one in the middle of a crew drill Which I didn’t know was real until the ambulance showed up

I would take a shuttle or taxi to the airport as link takes about 35 min from pioneer square and the station is a 5 to 10 min walk from the airport terminal. Try to be one of the first off as with 2 ships in the taxi queue can be a bit long ( earlier off shorter the queue). For customs. It is quick and there are lanes dedicated just for Emerald . Ask the driver to avoid the area around the Seattle waterfront by the Marriott since pier 66 will have a ship in port that day

Navigator sends security to investigate if a smoke detector goes off as they get about 15 fire alarms a day . Mostly the cook setting it off in the galley or a guest is using a hair dryer to close to the sensor . It would get annoying if bravo was called for every one. Grand princess has buzzers in all hallways that goes off and they call first stage response for every detector activation

The port side diamond lounge was created in oct 2016 when the outside area of the DL became a construction staging area for the starboard side scrubber. I was on a b2b and the do was starboard 1 leg port side the next. Don’t know how a SL would fit in the same spot on Navigator as that is where Izumi is . As more become pinnacle the SL will have the same crowding issue as the DL

If it is called in a port at about 10 am. It may be a drill. They may make a announcement before it that a drill is taking place and or add this is a drill for crew only to the announcements. . Sometimes no announcements can be heard in the cabin at all so when they sound the emergency signal passengers start heading to thier muster stations . I was on explorer last year and they forgot to say it was a drill and a few passengers were confused and was asking if it was necessary to Head to Master Station . Royal Caribbean should follow princesses lead and put a notice in the compass that there is a crew drill and what time it is so people will be aware that a drill is taking place for crew .Adding the word drill to the announcement helps distinguish between a drill announcement and one that could be real for example independence had a medical emergency in the middle of a drill And the lack of the word drill was in indication that was a real code

I am on Regal at the moment. Just wondering has anyone ever experienced a 2 hour wait for taxis as warned by princess or are they just trying to use that as a scare tactic to get you to buy their 40 dollar per person transfer
-
On regal now. They have told me that carribean princess is next for ***** however they have not decided if they will install the door locks also the internet has benn working ok. I had less cutout on regal then I had on Navigator of the seas which doesn’t have o3b. YouTube works better on regal as well

They are still the same nights as of the current voyage. It may change next year as Helsinki will become 1 of the ports where you can get on and off
Flights from Vancouver
in Royal Caribbean International

The customs process consists of filling out the declaration on te ship and just handing it in to CBSA after getting off lines are short and passengers are not sent to secondary unless needed but is rare. Fridays are usually not busy for cruise ships unless it is the beginning or end of the season. Radiance is often the only ship in. Ether Azamara and Viking are likely to be the other ship in if there is another one schedeuled. Both are less then 1000 passengers. Both taxi and canada line are easy for getting to the airport and would take no longer then 30-40 min unless there is a accident or road work on Howe st Or Granville St as those 2 streets make almost a direct route to the airport
