  1. That probably was a poser, a real service dog is never fed at the table and that is why they give real service dogs a bad rap. If I ever see something like this, I would take a picture and take it to the health department at the next US port.

I hate when I hear that people are abusing the service dog rules, they ruin it for the real service dogs.

My sister in law has a service dog, Floyd is wonderful. Never never never begs for food or eats from the table....

  2. I don't really do reviews, so here's some random thoughts about this cruise we just completed. It was my wife and I and we've done several cruises, all with NCL.

    -Great cruise

-Embarked very quick, we booked with the CAS so we got priority boarding

    -Slide not working

-Ate at Osheehans, Magenta, Grand Pacific, Cagneys, Teppanyaki, Le Bistro, Orchid Garden.. food was anywhere from good, to great

-Best meal was Cagneys - 21oz ribeye was awesome. Wife enjoyed the fillet

    -Slide still not working

-Never had a problem with "chair hogs".. always found a couple chairs when we wanted them. Yes, sometimes they were up top tho..

-It was definitely rough for the first few sea days

-Leo was one of the lounge type singers, just him and his guitar, really good, check him out. He played by Magnums mostly

-I'm not a smoker, and I still found the casino to be bearable in regards to smoke

-Next to the last day, I had an amazing winning streak in the casino.. tables, not slots. Biggest win I've had on any of my cruises. Paid for our entire cruise, and on board account.... and a good amount more in my pocket..

    -Play the tables, not slots

-First time playing deal or no deal.. kinda fun but hard to win

-Bar staff seemed a bit overworked, but found most to be friendly and quick

-We did self Disembark, and it was an absolute breeze. Off the ship, and thru customs in no time

Any questions, feel free to ask. :D :D

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!! Sorry, couldn't resist!! Were you playing blackjack?

Now you should book the Dawn, May 8th 10 day out of New Orleans with Scott and I!!

  3. My dad is a Vietnam Veteran with a panic disorder stemming from PTSD. He is severely impaired by this. It effects every part of his life. Without medication he experiences uncontrollable, very intense episodes of panic one after another. The term "losing your sh**" totally applies. I experienced him caught in it when it first started. I've never seen a human try to get out of their own skin. Its really terrible. Even with all his medication that now usually controls the panic attacks, he does have breakthrough episodes from time to time. There's no telling what triggers it but it happens. For the most part my dad doesn't leave his house at all. I'm sure the isolation does nothing to help his overall mental state. If only he felt safe or confident to go out in the world. So what could a trained dog do to help someone like him? First, the dog & it's care focuses the attention outside themselves. There are dogs trained to pick up on slight physiological changes that indicate an impending panic attack. The dog can alert the owner so they may have a chance to ward it off or get seated at least. In my dad's case he could take additional medication. Also, during a panic episode the dog would comfort and stay with his owner. The dog offers the support to allow someone like my dad to feel safer leaving his house. More confident.

All that said, my dad doesn't have a support dog. I wish he did. No, he will never go on a cruise or on any real vacation. He was in the Navy for 24 years. He's sailed around the world many, many times. I'm sad sometimes knowing I'll never get to experience places with him but such is life.

The price of freedom isn't free. It's a price paid not only by what our veterans sacrifice, it's also the children who don't get to have the adventures traveling with their parent, all the missed opportunities and time lost with grandkids who can't understand and only see a grandparent they think doesn't care enough to come see them. All the things the spouses forego to care for & protect their other half. It's hard. But that's why I can understand. Disabilities aren't always visible. :)

Please thank your dad for his service....

  4. The dry dock renovations to the DAWN will be a carbon copy of what was done

to the sister ship the STAR.

Moderno moves to deck 13 to the space adjacent port side forward of Cagney's and the mid section of what was the Star bar.

The Star bar becomes the Sugarcane Mojito bar.

In the space on deck 8 that was Moderno and the Blue Lagoon becomes O'Sheehans.

The Pearly Kings Bar deck 7 becomes 5 O'clock somewhere bar.

Refer to the Deck Plans for what happened to the STAR.

As for the Meets & Greets they may very be well held in the same vicinity/location

or as the size of the group dictates somewhere smaller (La Culcina - Ginza - Sushi) or larger (Spinnaker).

    Thank you!!

  5. Awwwww - now why would you say that.... we LOVE the Dawn and truth be told we LOVE Southwest - just sayin...

And yes Pathubia there are seats at the bah in between Blue Lagoon and Moderno - great spot to listen to Patty & Jose with a drink and good friends :)

However, heard that whole area will be replaced by the O'Sheehan's venue during the next dry dock. Moderno will move up to where the Star Bar is located now...

No more Stah Bah!! Now where will the meet and greets be held? Looking forward to the addition of OSheehans, but will miss singing along with Jose and Patti while dining at Moderno

  6. It's been a long time coming and we finally made it to the double digit dance. We had a crazy idea to book the Garden Villa on the Gem with women who never really met each other in person and over the last year we have become best friends and we have met in person several times since then. We first met here on cruise critic by just chatting with each other and I cannot wait for this cruise I've never been this excited for one before

I am so jealous, the garden villa is a dream of mine....Probably never happen, (especially since I didn't win Powerball) but I can hope....

  7. Sorry . :o She does not have the New Moderno's yet. Deck 13 there is a deck 8 bar between Moderno's and blue lagoon.

    .

I am looking forward to the new Moderno's in October.

Are there seats at the bar between Moderno's and the Blue Lagoon? I don't remember seeing any.

  8. I have been in the tiniest inside cabin on the lowest deck up to a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite. I don't care where I am as long as I don't have to cook, clean, and make my bed.

We are in a balcony cabin on deck 9 on our cruise in May (10 night, a first for us) and we are in a Family Suite with no balcony on deck 12 on our cruise in October. Both on the DAWN.

  9. We had the specialty dining package on our last cruise and never ate at in either of the main dining rooms. We have cruised the Dawn before and we have always been happy with the meals in the MDR's. Once I made a reservation, I would never look at the menus for that day. Too many choices, LOL!!

  10. Please don't bring ground coffee.

Your cabin steward must separate ALL your trash BY HAND, wet grounds make a terrible mess for them.

    .

Glad you posted that, I would never have thought of that.

I think you can buy different brands of coffee in pouches at the supermarket.

  11. My son was a couple of months shy of 21, I signed the waiver for beer and wine. He was not allowed to have the UBP like his older brother who was getting the UBP as a perk. He got the soda package as a perk. He was not allowed to purchase beer buckets either. I am not sure if you can download the waiver and have his parents sign and have it notarized if that will work.

We tried this with my daughters best friend that came cruising with us. We were not able to sign for her. My daughter has a different last name, along with her passport, I brought her birth certificate and my marriage cert with my current last name and I was able to sign for her.

  12. The Boston to Bermuda itineraries are sky high this year. NCL will be losing a couple of weeks due to the refurbishment. Not sure if that is the reason why. I booked a family suite (no balcony for the Dawn October 21) back in October, the price has gone up $300 per person!! I was actually thinking about downgrading to a balcony cabin (all of our friends are booked on the 8th deck), but the prices are so high, I really wouldn't be saving too much!!

  13. Hi gang,

    First, thanks Rob.

So, called upsell this morning and here is what I got. Cabin 11018. Talked the gal down to $1000 total instead of $500 per person. Also got her to throw in UDP for mom (we had it for us 2 but not her before this)

    So, how'd I do gang??

We're pretty excited. This will work out better for us too. Like Rob said, we get our privacy and mom gets hers

That is a great deal!! Have a great trip. We have been in the 2 BR suites on the DAWN and while the 2nd bathroom is tiny, it is great to have the extra room an bathroom!!

    Bon Voyage!!

  14. Following this since i just booked the dawn for the 10 day cruise right before she goes to dry dock in May. I can't wait! I believe your experience has everything to do with your attitude & washing your hands to avoid illness

I am on the same cruise!! There is a roll call if you haven't already seen it.

This will be my 6th time on the Dawn and my first 10 day cruise!! I cant wait!!
