Cruising is nothing like it was in the 70's and 80's at all.
The noisemakers and streamers of the sail away they used to hand out and the mess the port of Miami had to clean up. I still have some of the noisemakers from Royal Caribbean and Cunard they handed out.
The flaming Baked Alaska (although I understand MSC still does this) parade.
Skeet shooting off the side of the ship with a shotgun!
Tips in envelopes.
I remember all of those on my first cruise, it was a Disney cruise in 1988. And the infamous "horse racing"!!
-
the horses would race all around the promenade deck.
the midnight buffet was a buffet they would have at midnight. :d
lolol

Forgot to add that we are on the Norwegian Dawn.

Can we bring on a cooler with wheels if we attach a room tag to it? We can at the port in Boston, not sure if its allowed in New Orleans? (not trying to smuggle on booze, just like to have water and soda in the suite for the kids).
Thanks!!

I know both Mr Sanchos and Playa Mia have parasailing. Not sure which other beach clubs do. But neither of two these are exclusive AI. See details on these links.
Thank you!!

My daughter and her friend would like to parasail while in Cozumel next month. They are both 22. My husband and I want to watch (from shore)...
We don't want to do an all inclusive, just take a taxi, parasail, then head back to the port area.
Where do you recommend that we go?

Thank you for posting, I have never needed to cancel a cruise, I will be very careful if I do!!
-
I will be wearing my #12 gear on Sunday too!! Go Patriots!!

What is the best(longest) way to see and interact with the monkey's? Do we book the gumbalimba park tour, or do we visit Victor Bodden's monkey farm?
In Maya Key everyone gets to go in the monkey cage if they want. You are only in it with 2 or 3 monkeys for a couple of minutes. Time enough for them to jump all over you and get a few photos!!

Just me and the husband coming from Nashville. We are staying one night prior to sailing. It's getting so close, can't wait!
We drove to New Orleans in January, we stopped in Nashville for an afternoon, we went to the Johnny Cash Museum and had a few beers in Tootsies, then we drove to Memphis. It was a great trip. I would love to spend more time in Nashville!! Maybe next year!!

WOW, that is so high!! There are four of us in a SJ (family suite, no balcony) on the Dawn next month and we paid under $3400, including insurance. We booked in in February. Two of us have the UBP, two have the soda pkg, all four have the UDP. I would like to take the Dawn again in the spring, but not at those prices!! !!
Keep checking, the prices go up and down all the time!!
Good luck and Congratulations on your Anniversary!!

We are from Boston and due to my not thinking ahead we booked the Dawn out of New Orleans Jan 25 to Feb 1 (superbowl sunday). While on the cruise we met a group from Boston and arranged to meet them to watch the Pats win. We wound up watching the game upstairs at Saints and Sinners on Bourbon St. We had a great time!!

I always end up at Cats Meow. It is just the most fun for me. I want to say a hurricane there is $10 with tip (can't really remember) and if I have two I am good for the night they are that strong.
I usually get a daquiri on the street after dinner, then a hand grenade to drink on while checking out the bars. Then I go to cats meow and don't leave till its time to put food in belly.
I don't really see the need to spend money on the high end stuff in NOLA, it just isn't necessary.
Now on Frenchman Street I have no idea. But I suspect you either pay a cover to get into the clubs or have a drink minimum. Those may be pricier. I always say I will go to Frenchman Street but have yet to make it.
I love NOLA. And a bourbon balcony is the way to go. My last trip we had one and we have one again this trip.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Hey, Corley05, I see you are on the same cruise as us!! Party of 12 from Boston!! Cant wait!!
-
We had a great time at the Famous Door bar. Its on Bourbon St. They had really fun house band and a great DJ between sets. We stayed out in the Garden District and took the trolley all over the city. We drove to New Orleans and the hotel we stayed at had free parking, and free parking while we were on our cruise.

Have fun!! We cruised the same week this past January....We had such a great time, we booked it again for next month!!
-
We also went to Maya Key, really liked it.....Liked it so much, we booked it again for our cruise next month.
We walked around the pier a bit, had a couple of beers in the bar that is right off the ship (we would up having a beer with the ships illusionist there).
Did a little shopping, but never ventured out of the port area.

We are Pats fans cruising out of New Orleans on Nov 15, already keeping my fingers crossed we will be able to watch the Pats - Giants game at 425 pm. The other 2 games at that time are vikings - raiders and chiefs - broncos
-
mmmmm Grey Goose and orange.....the only time I drink a morning drink is when I am on a cruise....40 more days....
-
We are on the Dawn in November, too. If I were you I would just check it and wait for them to bring it. Its a long walk and up a set of escalators. You also get priority luggage tags and they get you your luggage pretty quick. We get there early and we have always dropped off our carry on bags before we go to Cagneys. On our last cruise our escort was new to the Dawn (he wasn't a butler, he worked in the casino) and we showed him how to get to our suite....
-
We cruised the Dawn January 25, 2015 and the weather was beautiful, high
70's all week. I don't remember it raining at all!!
Keeping our fingers crossed we have the same weather in November.

Yes, DeVinchy is still there. Parts were very good and parts were really drawn our and too long. He did a close up magic show in Spinakers, was part of the Elements show in the Stardust and a full show in Stardust.
Dingo Daveis the CD. I don't really care who the CD is on a cruise, but I really enjoyed him. He came to the M&G and whenever he saw me he asked how the cruise was going.
Thank you!! We wound up sitting with David at a bar in Roatan last cruise, he is very nice. I hope he will be on board in Nov. Not sure if Dingo Dave will remember us, we are going to our meet and greet.

Dingo Dave is the cruise director. And he finds himself VERY entertaining. I don't recall an illusionist. But I don't like magicians and illusionists so I wouldn't have paid attention to the names. I hate that I can't figure that kind of thing out! LOL
Thanks!! We have cruised with Dingo Dave twice, he can be funny.

We are cruising on the Dawn in November, is David DeVinchy still the illusionist? Is Bobby still the cruise director?
Thank you!!

We used the UBP on Great Stirrup Caye...it took a long time to get drinks at a couple of the drink stations set up in the food area, but we could use it there last October....
Bringing on a cooler
in New Orleans
Posted
Thanks, we have a large soft sided cooler that we will probably wind up using. I think it holds about 20 bottle of water. We are in suite, so we should be able to drop it off right away. We did use it on our cruise in January.
