  1. I would love to be able to use cruises as a mode of transportation. It is a more relaxed and interesting trip than flying. I haven't asked a cruise line if it is possible but people have told me that you have to pay for the entire cruise, like someone else has said, and even then options are very limited.

I have seen several cruises throughout the world that start in one country and end in another. I plan to take some trips using those cruises. For example if we take the 56 day Africa overland trip I'm looking at next summer we will probably cruise US to South America then fly to Africa from there since that will be a shorter flight. Unfortunately the only cruise from US to Africa was Oceania thus more than I want to pay.

  2. Thanks for the info. Never had a problem popping my ears. Many people we snorkel with regularly free dive to these depths. Wasn't until we took our first cruise excursion that we learned that most people don't dive when snorkeling. Diving is what makes it fun because you are able to see so much more looking under reef shelves and into holes, etc. we've only had a couple of tour guides not want us to dive and then it wasn't the depth, they just didn't want anyone underwater.

  3. Our cruise stope in Grand Cayman (still investigating), Belize (snorkeling), Cozumel (day at the beach probably) and Roatan. It is our first trip to Roatan and I'm having trouble deciding what to do. We are active, adventurous and like to try new things. We've snorkeled worldwide (Australia, Phillipines, South Pacific, Hawaii, US Keys, east coast, gulf coast, Mexico, throughout the Caribbean) and have hiked and done island/land tours in those places among others. Not sure if the monkeys in Roatan are going to be any different than when we hand fed monkeys in the Phillipines or those we saw face to face in Gibraltar. Also not sure if snorkeling in Roatan is going to be interesting. So, I'm asking for a description of your favorite excursion and hoping something will be the perfect thing for us to do. Thanks for your input!

  4. We were in Cozumel last month, and went on a catamaran tour through "Cozumel Sailing" (the tour is called Tucan Adventure). I can't recommend it enough. One of the best excursions we've ever done. Included endless drinks (yummy rum punch!) and lunch, we did a bit of deep sea fishing, snorkeling, a beach stop, spinnaker rides.... The crew was very friendly and attentive. An awesome, awesome day.

Sounds like a fun day and what we are looking for. What food did you get for lunch? Was beer available too or just the rum punch? What is a spinnaker ride?

  5. My family's favorite excursion of any cruise was when they snorkeled at Shark Ray Alley and Coral Gardens in Belize. This time they are going to Hol Chan Marine Park and Shark Ray Alley with a different private company.

    Thanks for the info!

  6. A friend told me he really enjoys the Ybor area of Tampa and suggestion we stay in that neighborhood before sailing out of Tampa. But, he has only day tripped into the area and never stayed there. Has anyone stayed in that area? Hotel recommendations? Restaurant or bar recommendations?

  7. While I appreciate you taking the time to post Carnival's published attire...I already had that information from the Carnival website.

I was asking for what people are really wearing. I'm surprised they didn't let people in the MDR with shorts on your cruise. Maybe Carnival is stricter than in 2008 since I saw people in shorts and tank tops on formal night in the MDR.

  8. Our first trip to Belize is in May. We love to snorkel and won't miss this opportunity to snorkel the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world (enjoyed the Great Barrier Reef in Australia a few years ago). We are looking for an excursion that will allow us to dive while snorkeling....some tour guides have gotten upset with us when we dove during a tour. What was your favorite snorkeling tour in Belize...either private or booked with the ship...and why?

  9. It has been a few years since we cruised Carnival, but at that time formal night was...well...anything but formal. From what I remember, we saw shorts and tank tops on both men and women, I don't remember seeing any suits, although some women had on casual to dressy dresses. Most men had shorts or slacks and button up shirt. Based on our previous experience, we are thinking of taking nice shorts and button shirt for DH, skirts or casual dresses for me for all dinners. However, before I pack I wondered what are people currently wearing on the Legend and Conquest for formal night while in the Caribbean?

  10. ...No, as others have said, Carnival's room service is free 24 hours a day.

...But, your statement is incorrect. I see that you've sailed on Royal Caribbean. My understanding is that they DO have a service fee for room service ordered between Midnight and 5 am.

We never ordered room service after midnight so I didn't know they charged....crazy
