  1. Current situation from the balcony IMG_9518.MOV There’s a C&A event today at 9:30am. Up close and personal with our entertainment family in Two70. Not sure exactly what that means but we’ll find out. Breakfast first.
  2. Izumi for dinner last night was again disappointing. I’ve said before that it’s been our favorite specialty restaurant on Oasis class. Quantum last week was disappointing and Ovation last night was about like Quantum. The Miso soup was salty. The Champagne Lobster roll had almost no taste at all. The sashimi was not good. The tuna was pink rather than red and a little chewy. The manager was walking around and asked how everything was, so I politely told him. He handle it perfectly. He thanked me for the feedback, saying most people just say their meal was good and they never know if there was a problem. He took 20% off the bill, which I want looking for. He also talked with me more in the hall outside the restaurant and said they’ve had problems getting quality ingredients. They’ve had to remove a couple of items from the menu as a result. It felt like he was being honest with me rather than just trying to make me feel good. I respect that.
  3. That’s exactly how it has been. Temps have been in the 70s with sun the last couple of days. Seas are fairly gentle. Perfect for sleeping.
  4. I haven’t had a Lava Flow on this cruise yet. I’ll correct that today. Kraken of course.
  5. To connect the final dots, in case it’s not obvious from Greg’s description, the colors of the drink look like the Mastercard logo.
  6. Good morning from the Pacific Ocean. Is it Groundhog Day? We are 400 miles from Maui. Today is our final sea day before 2 days in Lahaina. Should be a fun packed day. More to come…
  7. Drink report for the evening: She’s a Geisha at Izumi - Although I’m not a big fan of cranberry, this was quite tasty. I’ve never had Saki before. Definitely need to try some straight. Boston Iced Tea at Schooner - OK. I’d drink it if you gave me one, but probably wouldn’t buy one. I prefer the Long Island variety. Brandy Alexander at Schooner - Classic cocktail. Great way to finish the evening. Early night tonight. Final sea day tomorrow. Should be more than a few poolside drinks tomorrow. Good night.
  8. It might take me a minute to get through your list. If I remember, a Brandy Alexander would be a nice nightcap tonight. Lava Flow and Mudslide at the pool tomorrow. I’m not a fan of cranberry juice so that rules out a cosmo and a Cape Coder.
  9. Speaking of D+ amenities, a couple of days ago we loaded up a free laundry bag with underwear, socks, a couple of shirts, and a couple of pairs of jeans. They came back a day later in perfect condition. We hopefully won’t need the jeans anymore but the clean underwear will definitely be useful. Thirty days away from laundry is a long time.
  10. I felt guilty and had to order another Dark & Stormy, this time with Kraken. I feel better now. Micheline decide to break open our D+ amenity bottle of champagne. I kinda like this D+ thing. There are no champagne flutes in the cabin so she’s drinking from a water goblet. She’s fancy like that.
  11. Confession time. I just ordered a Dark & Stormy but with Goslings rather than Kraken. I’m ashamed. 😔 But Micheline found Whispering Angel at Vintages.
  12. Just got back from the Karaoke finals. There are some seriously good singers on this ship! The winning woman sang and incredible version of Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings. She had one of the CD staff members crying.
  13. Completely agree. This will be our first time to Kauai so will interesting to compare to Maui.
  14. I haven’t been on the main board in about a week. Can’t believe I almost missed this! I’m all caught up now and will be here for the rest of your cruise. What do you think of Mariner compared to Oasis class?
  15. You can tell that the weather is getting nice. Men’s Belly Flop Competition in the outdoor pool. The winning jump
  16. Boston Ice Tea (same as a Boston Tea Party?)…great idea. I used to enjoy Gin & Tonic quite a bit but for some reason got away from them. Also a great idea. Micheline used to drink Pinot Grigio but switched to SB several years ago. She’ll still drink PG as a backup, like she did last night after trying the Sea Ridge SB. 😝
  17. Sorry that you had to cancel due to Covid. Good to hear that Royal was quick with the refund. We were sitting in an outdoor restaurant on Maui a few years ago talking to the couple next to us who were from northern CA. They were staying on Maui for a month. They said (at the time), it was fairly cheap to fly from CA to HI. The trip from the east coast to HI is so long that it’s not something I would do regularly but if I could fly there quickly from CA, I’d probably go every year. Is a quick trip from CA to HI something that people do?
  18. The ocean is an amazing color of blue right now. This picture doesn’t really do it justice.
  19. Micheline ordered a Kim Crawford SB is in the SL last night. No KC. How about the Robert Mondavi then? Sorry, no RM either. What SB do you have? We have Sea Ridge. What the heck is Sea Ridge? A quick Google search says that you can buy a bottle for about $5. I think Boones Farm is more expensive. And tastes better. I’m looking for drink suggestions. I’ve done several variations of the Old Fashioned (rum, tequila, southern comfort aka New Fashioned). I’ve had bourbon on the rooks. I’ve done Kraken in a Miami Vice, a Colada, a Pain Killer and a Rum Runner. I’ve had a Mojito and a Moscow Mule. I’ve even brought lemonade from the Windjammer to make my home grown Bourbon Raspberry Lemonade. What other drinks should I try?
