  1. I would also like to thank CJcruiser for the time devoted to providing a really useful thread.

It is a shame to see it end, so if no one else is interested, then I would be interested in trying to maintain the information flow. Does anyone have an objection?

In the absence of any objections I will try to update the current information and post it (in a new thread) by Friday and we can all take it from there.

Awesome! And thank you Vmax1700. HAL passengers and CC members are wonderful.

  2. Some cynical part of me wonders if HAL is trying to show stronger-than-actual #s for the end of a quarter, or fiscal year-end. Nonrefundable deposits or fares -- that's income that could show as current income, isn't it, without an offsetting liability for refunds that may be issued, since the deposits/fares are nonrefundable?

Humm...you may be onto something. Financial risk assessment is certianly into play here with bookings on the backs of people who are unaware of the details. Dare I say the word ethics? Although in the end it is "buyer beware".

  3. You are right and those doors certainly should not b left open and there are notes on the doors saying so. Seems to be another case of people who think the rule is for everyone else but not for them..... Thye don't care if they upset the a/c for other cabins on their same line. Selfish, inconsiderate, irresponsible people.

Plus, anyone could walk through that open door at any time and who know what that might lead to.

Sail, you couldn't have said it better. Some people today with their self entitlement is becoming overwhelming. "The rules don't apply to me." I am not sure what drives this attitiude but is it becoming more and more present in social enviroments. Personally, I find it obnoxious and distasteful. Who cares if your cabin isn't getting below 80 degrees because "We've got our lani open and that is the way we like it."

  4. Who books under these restrictions? And do you feel like you're being strong-armed into purchasing HAL's insurance? Most know of better coverage at a substantial cost reduction buying insurance elsewhere.

  6. Having planned our cruise vacations, we always include various, additional tipping costs. We are by no means wealthy, monetarily, however want to include everyone who is working in our travel experience. Tipping is certainly a personal choice however, is one that cheap not to include folks that are truly working by recognizing them with a few bucks? Even though we are not on the high end of the income spectrum we tend to spread the wealth with a smile. Seriously, what is a couple of Benjamin’s througout your trip in tipping really going to cost you?

  7. Having been a third time visitor to John's Ocean View Bar and Edith's Fish Fry. I can sincerely say you'll have a good time and great food visiting here. It ain't Jack's Shack and it ain't Buffett's. It's the real deal, family owned Grand Turk. Go with no attitude and get sincere service from the wonderful people of Grand Turk who are willing to share their stories of the Island with you. Nice beach front (bring aqua shoes as some small coral cropping in the shallow waters off shore) https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=john's%20ocean%20view%20bar%20and%20edith's%20fish%20fry. Great prices on beer/homemade rum punch and food. Experience the local scene.

  8. Yes there are small shops and places to eat in Cockburntown. Just grab a taxi in the parking lot. I like John's OceanView up at the far end of town. There used to be a great place called the Sand Bar but they had a fire about 6 months or more before the hurricanes last fall. Doubtful they are open or have rebuild.

On the right side of the pier near the whale statute is the Beached Whale. Owned by the same franchisees as Margaritaville but an entirely different vibe.

Agree on John's Ocean View/Edith's Fish Fry in Cockburn Town. Still folks of the island makin' it work. Good food and cold beer/rum punch. $ Good price for value.

  9. We enjoyed the K'dam very much on our December 2016 adventure. We booked and inside on Shubert deck fwd and had a wonderful time. Fantasitc mid sized ship < 3000 passengers never had the feeling of crowding. Dining in both included and extra fee were very nice. The entertinment all around was fantastic IOHO. It's a Holland America experience, discrete and subtle.

  10. New robes in cabin, maybe new(er) towels also on our 5 day Crown Western on 11/13/17.

Going back on Crown March 2018 for a 5 day Eastern.

these 2 cruises totaling 10 days cost only a little more than the 2 day and 4 day b2b we cancelled on the non-***** Regal cruise to nowhere starting 11/13.

Right, thanks for remembering, no robes either. I'm sure if we'd asked they would deliver.

  11. From embarkation to disembarkation everything went well. There was about a twenty five minute delay in disembarkation but not Princess' fault. Customs issue which is typical in our experiences.

Staff: unlike our Caribbean Princess cruise two years ago, Crown's staff were all smiles and each and every staff member we encountered made eye contact and has some sort of greeting.

Cabin Steward: Donnabella was cheerful and kept the cabin sparkling clean. Requested ice daily to be put in fridge, never missed a day. Turndown always done well.

Dining room waiter and assistant: Pepe and Rommel were awesome. Never an empty water glass, consistently making sure all was good. Pepe made sure bar requests were quick by having Rommel pressure the bar. Late seating: If you want to see the show let the wait staff know and they will have you ready to go with plenty of time. If you're kind to people from the start, it is amazing what great service you will get. J/S. Food (imo) was quite nice. The Curtis Stone dishes were super as was other entrées we had. Soups and breads done very, very well.

Crown Grill: For the $29. fee pp we thought it is well worth it. Filet Mignom was perfect. Sides okay but desserts are off the chain! Very nicely done. Easily a $100. bill plus tip at a fine steak house here in FL.

Horizon Court: Used a couple of times for breakfast. Everything one could possibly want, yes, even real fried eggs!

Entertainment: Meh...but we don't cruise for this.

Cabin: C255 (IE) Was fine. NO major scratches on furniture. New fridge. Mattresses were fine, perhaps new. Linens were NOT worn. Towels were new and soft. Cabin very clean. Bathroom fine, plumbing fine, A/C fine, carpet worn but clean and NO odors emitting anywhere while we were on board. (other than casino area: cigarette smoke)

The cigar lounge is next to the casino and NOT a negative airflow (unlike the CB, Churchill's) so in addition to the smoking area in the casino and the cigar lounge at times a little annoying, but we don't spend much time in the casino.

All in all well done Crown Crew!
