  1. We are on a ship now wth a lady & her scooter with a basket. There is a sign on the basket that says "service dog" & her toy poodle (bow on her head & with a pink tutu) is riding in the basket. Makes me wonder..... but of course I cannot know....... Curious however.

  2. Thank you for all of this helpful information this is my first cruise and my first post! :) I am full of questions but won't take up to much of your time so I will ask you only a few. Thank you in advance.

1- I get car sick, so I am worried about being on the ship. Is it better to buy Over The Counter Meds or get something from my Physician?

2- I am taking my 2 daughters (16,11) and can't decide between Mexico or the Caribbean I have to say I am a little concerned with Mexico right now. Any thoughts? Planning for 6/2016

I get car sick, ship sick, ferry sick...... Since cruising, took a tip from a fellow RN cruiser and I never get sick on a cruise ship. I did get a stop. Patch from MD "just in case". It expired, unused 2 years ago - 22 cruises & no need to use the patch....

    Here's what has been a 'no-fail' life-saver for me:

Get Meclazine 25 mg - aka 'Bonine' 'Non Drowsy Dramamine" "VertiCalm" - or just ask at the pharmacy window for Meclazine - at COSTCO 100 tabs was around $6.00.

Take 1 tab each night beginning 2 nights before you board the ship. Take one each night of the cruise & continue 2 nights after you are off the ship.

AND...... Just in case you hit super rough seas - get Hylands Motion Sickness tabs - homeopathic - you can dissolve 2 under your tongue and they work like magic even if you don't use them until the symptoms are well under way!

I get mine at RiteAid, Whole Foods or order from Internet. I never go anywhere without them in my purse.....

    Happy sailing!

  3. Sore throats, cough, respiratory virus.... Noro is a GI virus, average incubation 33 hours. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.... Easily passes by direct physical contact with contaminated hands, items, etc. not airborn. To reduce airborne - US pharmacies have a product 'Halo' which sprayed orally before flights, gatherings etc. reduces the risk of succumbing. We use it every time we fly & try to remember to use it before shore excursions etc! May be helpful....

  4. This will be my first cruise since I was 7 years old!!! EXCITED !!, [emoji2][emoji1]. My question is,, are we supplied with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc. like the hotels? We will be in a Junior Suite. Also, I have seen people complain about the price of the shuttle,,, What shuttle would that be? I see that we are not allowed "irons". Would a small travel clothes steamer be taken away as well?

Toiletries & steamer: Yes and yes.... Shuttle could be from port to town when you dock/tender (sometimes free/sometimes cost/sometimes not needed at all...) or to/from ship when embarking/disembarking. (Always more expensive to book those from the cruise-line than taxi or shared with other CC companions!)

  5. Here is USA Amazon link for Noro killing hand spray...

    http://www.amazon.com/Clorox-02174-Bleach-Free-Sanitizer-Spray/dp/B00DDZMLLK

As an RN & Also having had Noro resulting on overnight hospital admission - (NOT on a cruise - on land!)

Wash hands, wash hands, wash hands!!! (Was appalled that I got it)

Carry OTC anti emetic meds & anti diarrhea meds easily accessible to you

Bring electrolyte tabs to aid in recovery if you get it...

    Avoid touching anything! :)

  6. Going on our first cruise in Oct. Your list is helpful:)

Although the list is very comprehensive and a great way to start thinking about what to pack, do yourselves a favor & pack lighter!! If you pack all of that you will discover you have waaay too much stuff that is not needed on today's cruise ships.... Example:

You can get extra hangers from the steward if you need them

Etc etc - don't pack anything more than you would if you were staying at a hotel in a large city where you could buy anything extra you find you might need..... Packing the kitchen sink isn't really needed..... :)

  8. They'll make it to order for you at lunchtime.... I usually order it first (no sauce, extra crispy) and by the time I find a table, get a beverage & fix a salad - it's done!

  9. DH takes lots of meds. Weekly pill box has each a.m. & p.m. In it's own little box. Then a little zip lock with the three supplements he takes daily too. I take a print out that lists each med, dosage, Rx number etc. just take a screen shot from the CVS site for his Rx. Or, do your own. Never had a problem.... However - sandwich bag zip lock filled with several kinds of pills might be a different story! Highly recommend if not weekly/per day separated that each pill have it's own little labeled bag. You can even peel off the lake from the Rx bottle & use that or take a pic with phone, print & tape on....

  10. Have never used the clothes pins although I do bring 2 over the door "hooks" (dollar store) to,hang on the back of bathroom door whatever I want quick access to or quick dry.... Depending on the ship/cruising there are many options including send out laundry services (all), self serve Laundry (Oceania, Carnival, Azamara - ones I know of)' clothesline in shower/bath (Oceania & some Celebrity ships, not S class). 2nd the OTC meds & reading glasses!!! Although you can buy in port & on ship gets spendy & tenuous as to what is available....

  11. What do you want to see in SFran & when is your flight? No tour bus from airport - ship docks 1/2 way between Fisherman's what'd& ferry building. Airport is 45 min South of city/dock. Problem is what to do with your luggage while you are touring before airport - check excursion options on Princess site they may have this option.

  12. What are some things you've seen that can be seen as unnecessary? I only as because I am also trying to travel with only a 22" carry on.

I think what you should focus on is what is necessary! Passports, cruise boarding pass & luggage tags & tour documents, plus mix/match layered clothing that can do double duty! things you use/do everyday (meds, glasses, etc.) rest is pretty much personal choice! We travel with one 22" Carry on & one personal item each & have been gone 6 weeks. Of course we hand wash & use laundry services!

That said, I've been on two of 20 cruises where bathroom didn't have a night light so I pack a tiny flashlight 'just in case' as well as packable rain jacket & umbrella. The other stuff is just stuff! Essential for some folks on a cruise - others, not so much...... M
