Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Has anyone ever done this? We will be on a 10-night on Cel Beyond, disembark, and then embark to begin a 7-night on Enchantment. We've been to the port before, so we know the layout and the line we stood in to surrender luggage on both cruise lines was exactly the same. Everyone went through the same scanner, then they separated luggage based on tag. The difference is we left Wonder OS and had 2 days on our own in Venice before returning to Civitavecchia port to board Apex. This time we leave Beyond (hopefully last number called) and immediately board Enchantment (first appointment available). TA suggested that we can talk with both cruise lines and because they share the port building, they will move our luggage directly from one ship to the other without us needing to pick it up and recheck it. They also said we can bypass the security line and go directly to RCCL check in because we and our luggage are already in the secure area. Has anyone else done this? I feel like we are putting a lot of trust into backend operations and it feels very "Fort Lauderdale" and when I call both cruise lines, they sound confused and tell me I'll have to check in with the port when we are there. It's not a showstopper if we have to exit the building and come back in. With Beyond, Edge, and Enchantment in port that day, I know it'll be chaos no matter how we do it. Just looking to keep travel stress at a minimum that day and keep the relaxation vibe in play during the transfer. Thanks!
  2. We are also sailing same itinerary 20th Oct and are also looking at new things to do in ports. Looking forward to reading more of your adventures.
  3. We booked a shared tour of Amalfi including Positano in Nov 2016. Ended up being private, as we were the only ones booked that day. Excellent guide, and trip was completely customized for what we wanted and how long we wanted to be in each place. Very nice Mercedes van. Company still sends us holiday greetings, and it looks like they do shore excursions. +39 3331908044 (facetime-whatzapp-telegram) Trip Advisor (Amalfi Coast Day Tours Naples) www.toursamalficoast.com info@toursamalficoast.com www.instagram.com/amalficoastdaytours/ www.facebook.com/tourofamalficoast (Hit Like our page) Twitter twitter.com/touramalficoast Google + google.com/+Toursamalficoastdaytour
  4. They actually were offering 18 months for Celebrity Passages bookings on the Apex crossing last month. HOWEVER, I failed to read the fine print and got sucked into buying 2 more than I should have. They only offer the extra obc if you book an actual sailing using the certificate within 90 days of your purchase date. If the CP booking is applied to an actual sailing during the remaining 15 months, they just allow what you already paid to serve as your deposit. This was NOT on any of the promotional material they distributed on the ship. Was not explained by the staff in Future Cruise. Was in the fine print in the email confirmation I received AFTER money changed hands. It ended up okay because we found a couple of unique sailings in late 2024 to do. However, all of the extra obc and other perks offered by our TA don't apply to sailings that far out. Weren't any group rates to take advantage of either. My advice is ask to see the fine print and read the full terms and conditions before you decide how many to purchase.
  5. I take a glass of unsweet iced tea to the bar and have them add a shot of Grey Goose. Then I add a packet of freeze dried lemon powder and a packet of stevia powder (both available on Amazon). With white wine, I ask for a glass of club soda and make a spritz. Reds I choose dry-er varietals. I also take 3x Milk Thistle per day, which helps kick the alcohol out of your liver. I also used one of those tiny Ziploc cups and had a scoop of Perfect Keto flavored collagen in it for after dinner coffee, or morning coffee. X ships now have Truvia packets all over the place, but sometimes erythritol upsets me. Was good in a pinch though if I forgot to pack stevia. I stay away from any drinks made with soda "Zero". They use Sucralose as the sweetener. Sucralose always spikes my insulin and triggers my hunger hormone so I tend to crave salty snacks and ice cream. I use Zevia soda as a mixer at home, so I know for certain it's the Sucralose that does this. We just spent 3.5 weeks in Europe on two ships - RCCL and then X for the crossing, and my net gain was 3 pounds. Not terrible, considering I had croissants delivered via room service every morning, ate at Eden twice, and had dessert every night. Didn't take me long to get back into keto once we got home, and I actually think the break helped break the plateau I had been complaining about for some time. Oh, and even though it was a heck of a lot easier the first half of the cruises than later when I felt fat and bloated, we took the stairs everywhere. Up and down. Only took the elevator twice - once on the way in with luggage, and when we got off. I averaged 10k steps every day - even sea days. Good luck!
  6. Apologies for dumb questions. Diamond+ but haven't cruised with RCCL since 2015. We are joining Wonder OS on Oct 20 in Rome. Wonder is doing the split itineraries, where some guests join the cruise Sunday from Barcelona and others join in Rome on Thursday. So, our day 1 is actually day 5 for the Barcelona crowd. We have friends joining in Barcelona and they don't do specialty dining and are not D+ so we want to use the BOGO on nights 1 & 2 at Wonderland and Central 150. I am concerned that because it's night 5 for most of the people on the ship, by the time we board we won't get the times we need (to go around shore excursions). Has anyone booked dining in advance and then "cancelled" these to receive obc and rebooked so you can use the coupon? Or would they refund one of the prepaid cover charges? Similarly, does anyone know how much the stream VOOM is for D+ onboard? It's on "sale" now for $26.12 per night and I suspect if I only want the one device package it's better to wait until on board?
  7. FYI, we also tried to book the 30% discount first night in addition to the package and the system would not allow it. It kept giving me an error at checkout that we already had a conflicting reservation in place. I had previously and successfully done this 5+ times in the past. 2020 and before. The only sale I've seen for Specialty dining is the addition of a special Dining Trio package for $99 that seems to only become available during their big sales. It is 2 nights Specialty dining in the restaurants of your choice and one lunch. Haven't seen this for Apex yet, but still hopeful. As previously mentioned, we are big fans of Murano on Solstice class and as such, do not eat lunch so this package doesn't appeal to us on this class of ship. However, on Apex we like the menus for lunch so will probably eat more late lunches and skip dinners. Oh, and I personally would never burn a Specialty dining night on Sushi on 5. Excellent food and excellent venue, but we ordered everything ala carte and were stuffed when we left, never having a bill of over $50. So, the $35 per person credit they would have given us would have been a total waste. Note that they did aggressively push this and we had to insist, "No, we do not want to use one night of our package" every time we went to eat there. If you have a package, make sure you are clear you are not intending to use it!
  8. My TA said 3pm is being given to everyone booking a package so the premium slots are left for those paying full fare. 48 hours before embarkation they will see what slots they have left and in which restaurants and will adjust this for package holders. While you can try to change this when you get on board, in my post-COVID experience, this is now very difficult to do. We just had a 7 night package on Silhouette in February (12 night sailing), and it was the first time we had trouble getting the days and times we wanted. They simply did not have enough staff to support bookings over 50% capacity. They also had several large parties (in Murano especially) and called us to move the booking we made for Day 6 to another day or restaurant because they wanted us to have a good experience. Many of the menu items in Murano are made tableside. This is why staffing levels are so important in there. Our waiter shared with us that while he was happy to be back in a new contract, he was making far less money than he used to before the shutdown. He had fewer tables, and fewer guests were tipping because they all had prepaid gratuities and assumed these were covered. All dining gratuities apply to the free food venues. They also used to give you a ticket to sign, even with a package showing $0 owed, but the benefit of doing this was a tip line that people filled out. Given contact-less service, they no longer do this. We always bring cash to tip, but most people don't. He suggested it was very difficult to recruit people to serve in specialty dining now because they make more money in the regular dining room. Thus, I am not surprised to learn of the 18% service fee added. They need it to recruit more servers and increase capacity. In our opinion, Murano was well worth the 3 nights we dined there. Tuscan Grille failed to impress either of us although there was nothing "wrong", and LPC had also gone down in quality since our Feb 2020 cruise on Reflection. By the time it got to us after the "show", everything was cold. However, unless I had access to Blu or Luminae, I would absolutely book a package again if sailing Solstice class ships. For our TA Apex sailing in October, we booked Eden full fare in advance because we are celebrating events. Booked a 3 night package (with 3pm "reservation") so we can try the others, although I am more keen on the specialty lunch venues and we will probably be too full for dinner most nights. Hope that helps.
