  1. Finally someone understands we owned reataurants and deli's in manhattan everyone thought we were making a fortune with no work because we served ice coffee and ice tea for $1.50. What about N.Y. rents, restaurant insurance, government taxes and employee salaries?

  2. On our 21 day cruise this past January on Sirena, which was our 9th cruise with Oceania The 3 shows performed by the Sirena players were the best shows we have seen at sea.Every performance had a standing ovation. After their first show and word got out the remaining 2 shows where standing room only

  3. Thanks.

Did you use their free excursion option? If you did were you limited in which excursions you could take? How many did you take on that cruise?

We had 10 free excursions used them all. The limit was up to $199.00 pp .For instance the Pearl Harbor and City highlights tour 5:50 hrs was $89.00 pp.The Volcanoes national park was $109.00 pp.The Hollywood in Hawaii Movies and waterfall in Kauai was $199.00 PP.I do not remember the price for Nuka Hiva tour

  4. We had a free trip in Myanmar to Bagan with O and it was wonderful. We were on two segments of an "around the world" cruise.

I too am glad to hear the South African extra is worthwhile. I was considering it.

Was the trip pre or post or an overland excursion? We are booked for an overland on our cruise in April 2018 but it's not free or included in the fare price.

We were on the recent March 6 sailing of the Riviera. While onboard we booked an outside cabin for the April 2018 sailing from Bangkok to Mumbai. The travel consultant told us that the 3 day excursion to the Taj Majal was included in the cost of the cruise. Needless to say this seemed like a wonderful offer to us. Later in the day the travel consultant called our room to advise us that there would be an additional charge of $329 per person for a hotel since the excursion was already full. We cancelled the cruise since it just seemed very misleading. We were booking over a year in advance and the offer was already "sold out". I guess it is possible, but we should have been told that up front.

  5. Booked on Nautica 2018 cruise, Bangkok to Mumbai.

Thinking of going to CIBT direct to obtain the India visa. Or will we be better off to let Oceania handle it? Oceania is asking around $170.00 more per visa.

Has anyone used Cox and King or CIBT instead of Oceania for this Visa?

  6. If your OBC was given to you by your TA, just have them refund it back to you when you get home.If it is Oceania OBC then you have to use it on board .We where on the Sirena this January and my wife bought a beautiful top she wore a few time's to dinner.

You might be shut out trying to book excursions on board with your OBC. Excursions are usually booked before sailing date and no OBC can be used to pre book excursions. You can use your OBC for wine during dinner.

  7. In reading numerous posts , it would seem that the majority of these child problems and problem children is on the port intensive med cruises... and some South American cruises.... Just an observation

The Asian , and Pacific/ south Pacific cruises seem not to have the same problems Alaska mid summer might too be a problem area.

Moral...take cruises that are longer and to regions in remote areas... Tahiti Fiji China Might be good insurance

I can only assume you didn't notice one of the crew members family on board our 21 day cruise on Sirena this January 4th L.A to Papeete. Mother and 4 year old daughter and 18 month old son. They ate everyday in the Terrace cafe or Waves for breakfast and lunch.

They were so well behaved I guess a lot of passengers didn't notice.

  9. Hi Caviargal,

I wanted to get back with you once I checked my pictures to give you the names of the other tour companies we used in 4/2014 while on Marina in FP.

Raiatea: L'Excursion Bleue Snorkel tour with Bruno. The Vanilla farm and Peal Parm was interesting but the best was the snorkeling stops and especially the Coral Gardens drift snorkel. Very much enjoyed it and got great pictures. The lunch was ok, very rustic but decent. Yes, there were the flies around the food which I think in an outdoor tropical setting is hard to avoid. Scenery was beautiful as much of the time is spent around Taha. We found Bruno very charming.... quite the local.

Fakarava: We used Fakarava Excursions and had a very nice day snorkeling at the Blue Lagoon. Refreshments served, no lunch. This was a 1/2 or 3/4 day tour only I believe. http://www.fakaravaexcursions.com

Rangiroa: We used 6 Passengers Dive Company which is primarily a famous National Geographic Dive Center (we do not scuba dive) but they did snorkel excursions as well back in 2014 as arranged only a few months prior to our time there. Helena was our contact person and others from the Marina were on our same boat. We were on a large Zodiac boat so no protection from the sun but they took us to nice snorkeling locations, a fun drift snorkel and where the dolphins were. No lunch included, only water. There are not many snorkel options in Rangiroa so I found this company simply by e-mailing them to see if they offered snorkel excursions as I could find none listed on their web site. http://www.the6passengers.com

Nuku Hiva: Probably our least favorite port, not much to see and do. We had no tours booked here, just walked around the port and city area, shopped a bit and went back to ship early. Not a snorkeling port stop. The waters around Nuku Hiva are the breeding grounds for hammerhead sharks. This was a leisurely port stop for us and a nice break from the sun, sand and water.

Bring good water shoes, lots of sun screen and plenty long sleeve swim tops as the sun is brutal but oh so gorgeous! Our favorite tours were definitely Bora Bora (we had 2 full days in BB because back in 2014, the cruise was 14 days).

    Have fun planning!

Maybe Oceania didn't offer the Nuku Hiva tour back in 2014. Oceania offers a jeep tour that we took and it was a great tour. It's the only tour on the island and can only be booked through Oceania. I suggest booking this tour early so you won't be shut out. It was fantastic. The weather was in the 80's, all the jeeps are air conditioned.

  10. After 10 days onboard, I finally have some free time to post a very short more here. We are in Raiatea in amazing French Polynesia. What an amazing part of the world. Beauty almost beyond description, lovely people.

Sirens is a beautiful vessel but it is the staff that makes this a great cruise. The captain, Guisseppe the GM, Dottie the cruise director, Chef Ronald the amazing head chef, I envy our amazing room steward and all of the others have been wonderful.

The cabin, 4032 is a little smaller than I like but I was expecting that.

Truly an wonderful cruise on a great ship with a stellar crew. Pics and a real review to come after We get home.

My wife and I totally agree with you. We were on board for 21 fabulous days. The food in the GDR was the best we have had on Oceania. The must see on Sirena are the Sirena Players. The 3 shows they put on where the best we have ever seen on our 9 yrs with Oceania. They will blow your mind. We do not do shows allot, we eat dinner between 7:30 and 8:00, but this is a must see.

  11. Did that include dinner for 2 and transportation to the hotel from the ship and then to the airport? How much was the package without the room?

    Barbara

It did not include dinner. It included transfer from ship to hotel and hotel to airport. Just make sure you transfer your luggage with Oceania to pickup at airport. The package without the room was just to let you change at there spa and use of all the hotel facilities no room. It Included dinner for 2. I think it was around $150 or $160;00

  12. We where on the Jan 4 to Jan 25th cruise on Sirena. First 2 days out of LA was cool and a little choppy which was to be expected in the Pacific this time of year. The rest of the 3 days where sunny and nice a little cool on ship. The Hawaiian Islands for the 4 days we where there was sunny mid to upper 80 all 4 days. The 4 day crossing to Nuku Hiva was bright and sunny very warm had to be up on the pool deck for a lounge by 7 am everyday, the Sirena was full over 680 passengers.Like I stated in my last post if you don,t book the NukU Hiva tour through O you will be out of luck. We have been cruises since 1983 and would rank this tour in our top 10. It was very hot in Nuku Hiva. We ran into a very big storm over night on our way to Fakarava stuff fell of the desk LOL.. But cleared up by 8 am and the weather was nice. We were told the storm came through and went on to Papeete and washed out the air port for 3 days.. Bora Bora was sunny and hot as was the rest of the voyage to Papeete. We had O's air leaving at 11: 59 pm the day we disembarked. We made arrangements for a day room at the Intercontinental, got off ship at 9 AM had O deliver our luggage to the airport for us, and only took one carry on to the hotel, checked in at 10 am got room at 10 ;30 had lunch, took a nap, went to airport at 8 PM got our luggage..
