  1. Consumer advocate Clark Howard says to always, always buy the insurance from a third party! That is because the cruise line will only have themselves in mind when approving claims. So I always use insure my trip.com & choose an insurance that meets our needs. Something that I most recently became aware of is that if one of you unfortunately dies on the trip, travel insurance will pay to bring the deceased home as well as any insured family members.

  2. You can redeem the points as soon as you have a booking to which the OBC can be applied. Not sure what the 6 month time frame is.

This is from the RCCL Rewards page.....

If you are booking directly through Royal Caribbean,

Celebrity Cruises or Azamara, you must redeem your MyCruise Reward prior to making your final payment

for the cruise vacation. MyCruise Points may be redeemed for a MyCruise Reward by logging into your

    account at

    RoyalCaribbean.com/MyCruiseRewardsOnline

. Each Reward Redemption expires one hundred

and eighty (180) days from its date of issue.

  3. I have 19,000+ points but 400 of those expire at the end of this month. We had planned to use points for onboard credit for our March 16th cruise. What can I do to keep those 400 points? If the redeemed points are good for 6 months out, should I redeem the full amount I was wanting this early? The end of March is 6 months from the end of Sept.

  4. When we sailed Carnival, there were a couple of families of 5 who told us that the ONLY reason they sailed Carnival was because Carnival has cabins for 5 people and at the time none of the other cruise lines could accommodate them. They couldn't wait until their kids were old enough to be in a cabin alone so they could cruise other lines. Guess it is a common problem for families.

  5. We were on a Princess cruise for the first time last fall. One of the things we loved was the generous availability of iced tea, lemonade & water many places throughout the ship including on every deck by the pools. We are loyal Royal cruisers but have always thought Royal is pretty stingy when it comes to being able to find the same except in the Windjammer & cold water in the Cafe Promenade. Nothing ever around the pool or solarium. And who trapes into the Windjammer in your swimsuit to get a glass of something? It always seemed that they do that so you are forced to buy beverages. Has Royal loosened up on this? It has been a couple of years since we sailed Royal and hoping that might have changed.

  6. Has anyone ever purchased the anniversary package that is listed as "gifts"? I would love to see a picture of the included items such as flowers, etc. Our friends will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on HAL soon and we would love to surprise them, but curious what they would actually receive. The description doesn't give much detail.

  7. Magnetic hooks to hang extra things on the walls...I use them to hang lightweight loungers, beach robes, etc.

  8. Really... so you let what others wear bother you. SMH

So you seldom dress up at home but feel people on vacation should just because you want them too? Many dress up each day or have worn uniforms and suits nearly all their life and want to getaway from that stuff while on vacation? Why not dress up and go out at home?

Whoa Whoa Whoa! First, your response is very rude! To answer your question .....the answer is YES, when they are sitting across from me at the table, I would expect them to dress according to the guidelines. But if there was no "suggested attire" for the evening, then I would have no problem with people wearing what they want. But in this case plus the fact that there are plenty of other dining options, then I believe people should dress accordingly. I am not saying they should be wearing a gown & suit, but certainly not look like they are going to a picnic! Secondly, I have worn uniforms my whole career and my hubby has worn suits to business casual. What does that have to do with anything? "Getting away from that stuff on vacation" means you eat in the Windjammer! We happen to enjoy dressing for formal nights.

  9. We enjoy dressing up because there are just not many other occasions to do that. Is it a hassle to pack all that stuff? Absolutely! But we figure it is worth it and figure someday, it will be a goner on most cruise lines.

2 years ago, we had the unfortunate experience on a cruise that our tablemates...a lovely couple....came to formal night dressed as if they were going to a picnic! As we approached our seats, they apologized and said "we don't dress up anymore". As much as people say they don't care how other's dress, it did bother us since we were the only other people at the table. So here we sat with my husband in a 3 pc suit and I in a gown....and it honestly just took away from the ambiance of the evening. I enjoy seeing other's with nice hair-do's, pretty evening wear and the formality of the dining room. Makes no sense to me why others don't choose a different venue if they don't want to participate. No one is being forced to participate.

On a Princess cruise last year, our one tablemate was turned away from the MDR for wearing shorts on ANY night! We thought THAT was interesting.

  10. When I did it with our kids who were young adults, I included a bottle of sunscreen, aloe, a book from the cruise line, luggage tags and other travel size things… Can't remember the exact items included. You could also make for the little ones a countdown calendar marking the days until you leave. Maybe include a bon voyage balloon and fancy flip flops.

  11. We are loyal to Royal...have a RCCL credit card.....BUT our last 2 cruises were on other lines. We went on Carnival ONLY (we don't like Carnival) because it was the only cruise line that sailed out of New Orleans and we really wanted to do that. And last fall, we sailed Princess (really liked Princess!) because it was the only line that sailed the Panama Canal in the fall which fit into our schedule. Now we are getting ready to book a cruise for next spring and are pretty much planning to book it on Royal.

The more we cruise, we get bored with some of RCCL itineraries...but they are starting to change things up a bit. We would love to sail the Mexican Rivera and may have to stray again to do that.

  12. NO...Do NOT fly in the same day! On our very 1st cruise, our plane got delayed in Atlanta and we barely made it to the ship. Fortunately we had purchased transfers so the staff was waiting for us and rushed us from the airport. We got there in the middle of the Muster Drill...had NO idea why everyone was running around in orange vests. It was NOT the way to start a cruise!

Another time, my flight to FL(not cruising) was just cancelled after we were boarded. 250 people had to find other flights from Ohio to FL.!! There were 2 cruise families on board that were pretty much hysterical. We all ended up being bused to another airport an hour away for more flights. Hopefully they made it. Again, NOT the way to start a cruise!

    Anything can happen!

  13. This sounds perfect! Do you know the actual name of the product, or where you got it?

I looked at Swimways site and it looks like they aren't making them anymore...bummer.... but you can get them on Amazon or here....https://www.poolsupplies.com/product/papasan-spring-float
