  1. Outside of the summer and Christmas break, most of the passengers are above 70.  Many are physically challenged with walkers, wheel chairs, oxygen, aides to assist etc.  How a doctor can decide if a patient is capable of cruising can vary considerably between doctors. Is a person going to have to shop a new doctor to verify his health is sufficient for a cruise? Additionally, there is a big difference between a cruise let’s say to Antarctica or Galapagos and one to Caribbean or Canada.  Will a doctor take the time to take the itinerary as a factor? I can see this “letter requirement” being very short lived when Royal Caribbean starts losing their largest cruising population. As for forging a doctor’s name, that opens all sorts of problems for the cruiser.

They are not sending email confirmations I was told because of the volume of rescheduling, etc.  Only giving conf # number.

I got through by phone in less than a minute, gave conf # immediately .  I document the day, time & person I talked to when

getting this information.  Refund in 3-5 or up to 7 days (business) i assume .

I'm not rescheduling for the forseeable future.

I asked 2 agents I spoke with for a confirmation number and both said there is none. I can totally understand waiting time for phone calls, confirmation emails, etc. but they need to get their information straight. A confirmation number or no confirmation number, that is the question!!

  3. I just checked to see if my cancelled transatlantic cruise on Anthem was removed from my upcoming list. Still there and since last night I’ve gotten my cabin assignment. Really, Royal Caribbean!  Anyway since waiting on hold again for well over an hour is not an option, , I sent an email. Has anyone gotten a response that way recently?

I had a cruise booked through my TA. I sent her an email and she took care of it in 10 minutes.  Refund hasn't hit the bank yet, but the agency sent me documentation confirming cancellation.  Basically the original invoice showing refund issued and $0 balance due.

That was actually what I received with a balance of $0 but no refund information and on a form thanking me for sailing with them.
    “Dear JUDITH,
Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean. We're thrilled you've chosen to sail with us. Below you will find your cruise vacation summary and links to travel documents and FAQs“. IMHO not a cancellation notice.

  5. We finally decided to cancel our mid April transatlantic due to our ages and the Coronavirus situation. After an hour and a half of being on hold, I finally reached an agent who cancelled our cruise (or at least I thought he did). I never got the cancellation email, the cruise is still active on my Royal Caribbean account, and I did get an email thanking me for choosing Royal Caribbean along with a new invoice. No where did it say the cruise is cancelled. And of course it’s a Do Not Reply. If any of you have cancelled in recent days, what has been your experience? If no true cancellation documentation comes tomorrow, I will have to call back.

How fun is a cruise if being denied entry to ports ?
I personally think the next two weeks will be a make or break for the cruise lines as far as new policy change goes. As someone mentioned it’s not so much about getting sick but being quarantined, that’s where I’m at.
This is a discussion board and it’s nice to see people’s take on it but truth be told nobody here knows anything as far as what going to happen.

People have to do what they feel is right for them bottom line. As far as my April cruises I’ll wait right up to the 48 hours to decide.

I agree that waiting could be the best move. We too have an April cruise. Yes, Royal Caribbean has a generous cancellation plan. My waiting is for 2 reasons. First if things get worse and the cruise is in fact cancelled, we would get a refund rather than the FCC. Second, if the cruise is cancelled our flight would then be covered under trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Right now you can’t cancel a non cruiseline purchased air because you fear getting a virus and have cancelled a cruise. I will not wait until 48 hours though.  For logistical reasons, I will wait until 1 week before. To make things simpler I have already cancelled tours, Internet, transfers etc. so I won’t forget.

Royal Caribbean just issued a "cancel up to 48 hours prior to sailing and get a future cruise credit valid through 2021" policy..  Its on the front page of their website.

I know that tours and internet etc will be put back on your cc if you cancel. What about a bid you made on Royalup if it was accepted? CC or OBC?

Wifi calling is a setting on your smart phone.  Some people that live in areas with poor cell phone reception keep wifi calling on all the time so they can make calls over their home wifi network.  The first time you enable wifi calling on your phone, you need to set up an emergency address for the e-911 system.  I used my home address.  Verizon required this to be done while connected to cellular.  Wifi calling stays on once enabled, you can turn it off just like you can turn off roaming or any other feature of your phone.

One last question, I promise: once set up, would there be any reason to disable it?

No, wifi calling is wifi calling.

Turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi.

You MUST set up wifi calling while connected to cellular, so BEFORE you leave.

Not all carriers support wifi calling.  Also, not all phones support it, but most smart phones do.

If you set it up at home and leave it in that setting, once you turn off airplane mode will the phone work as usual. And once on the cruise you put it on airplane mode? Is that what you mean about setting it up while connected to cellular?

This sounds pretty easy!  My hubby is pretty tech savvy so he will be able to help me too.  I think I should be okay if this is all I have to do!  I was also thinking about telling my cellphone provider (Verizon) that I'll be traveling internationally.  That way if for some reason wifi calling doesn't work then at least I can call mom when I'm in port!

    Thank you!

I assume that just as wifi texting, wifi calling will not cost anything.

  11. Right from booking my emails from RC we’re not coming in. When the customer service rep sent me an email from her personal account, it came through. It got fixed in a day or so. My question (possible problem) is that I just was able to bid on an upgrade and did. It said a confirmation email is on its way. That was a while ago and nothing. If I’m jumping the gun, I’ll wait. But if not, I need to call again. Thanks.

No it doesn't, all the issues generate the same error you are seeing but, it could be caused by several different things like: the sailing is not eligible, you are not eligible, you are using the wrong name (try all of the ones on the reservation), your TA opted out, etc...

So my options after logging in with my husband’s name is to wait to see if an email comes from RC?

    Googling about air on airplanes,

On most aircraft, air is also circulated through hospital-grade HEPA filters, which remove 99.97 percent of bacteria, as well as the airborne particles that viruses use for transport

    • The vent above your airplane seat may help you avoid contact with microorganisms that can get you sick as it can create an invisible air barrier around you.
    • This air barrier can stop airborne viruses from lingering in the air around you

I always thought it was suggested you shut the vent off on the plane to avoid illness.

  14. I remember on our last cruise with a guarantee there was a way to see your cabin using the app before it was physically assigned to you. It had something to do with the barcode. We see the muster and the deck but not the room. Can someone refresh my aging memory?
