  1. If the assumptions mentioned above are correct, let me see if I have this correct.

Under the current system, I have 4 points and will earn Select status after my cruise in January.

Under the assumed new system - I have 16 nights all at Concierge Class - therefore that would equal 32 points? My cruise in January is 7 nights in Aqua Class - so after that cruise I will have 46 points?

Is that correct? Will I still have Select status after January's cruise with the new system (assuming, of course, that the assumptions above are correct).

    Thanks,

    Debbi

I heard elite will now be 25 points beginning Jan. 2014

  2. Hi, everyone,

We have a small group (five couples in five cabins) on Celebrity Reflection in two weeks, and one of the couples is stuck in early dining, while the other four couples are all confirmed for late dining. We've all been cross-referenced since booking, many months ago, because we want to dine together at a table for ten.

My question is, despite the fact that their wait list status hasn't cleared, what do you think about their chances? Do you think the eight of us will be in late dining, and the other two will be stuck in early?

In 30 years of cruising, I've never had this happen. The TA said there's nothing she can do. I'm very anxious about it.

Thanks in advance for any insight you might be willing/able to share.

    All the best,

    Charlie

The time of year you're cruising it's a very good chance late seating will be available. Fingers crossed for you!

  3. Sadly you will notice differences -

Let us start in spa cafe

    No Seared Tuna

    No Cut of Salmon

No Breast of Chicken - 1 Piece

    No Tiger Prawns

Three types of bread-stick - used to be 5

Three types of stewed fruits - Used to be 5/6

    Reduced selection of salads

The fresh fruit selections (bowl of) - you now have to pay $5 per serving

The list of cutbacks could go on throughout the ship with foods and dining experiences..........

But Celebrity still delivers a cruise experience above most....

What??????? No salmon? What the heck is left???????

  4. Just also back from the Reflection Nov. 1 TA and first time experience with the voucher system.

Count me in as one who really likes the vouchers, great to have freedom of choice from 10 bars to choose from including the Martini Bar.

Where do you get the vouchers? Are thy in your room or do you get to meet everyone the first night and then they hand them out? Thanks!

  5. You said that children's activities on board ship are of utmost importance..therefore that is why I am seeking advice on X vs. RCCL . Rccl will have far more to keep kids happy and entertained then Celebrity, A lot of people choose X because of the small percentage of children.

I agree. The children will have a blast on RCCL

  6. We have 29 credits on Celebrity, and have been on the Zenith, Horizon, Century, Galaxy, Mercury, Infinity, Millenium, Constellation, Summit, and Eclipse.

I don't inspect the ships I am on. I have no idea what the color of the carpet was in any of our cabins or if there was any mildew in the bathroom. I don't know if the railings needed varnish. I don't know if there were stains in the Centrum. And don't care.

I am a life long camper and Vietnam vet and have used outhouses, the woods, and holes in the ground. Didn't even have grout ;).

As long as the ship passes the appropriate government inspections, it is good enough for me. It is a ship that sails almost every day of the year with thousands of passengers-not an operating room.

I am too busy enjoying cruising to sweat the small stuff.

    Happy Sails to You

    OOOEEE :D:D Bob and Phyl

Some have to get monthly allergy shots due to allergic reactions to mold. I'm sure they would want / NEED a mold free shower

  7. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Make Formal night, FORMAL. If pax are not dressed properly they should NOT be allowed in ANY dining room except the casual dining in the buffet area. THE NUMBER ONE reason we cruise with CELEBRITY is because Celebrity is our last opportunity for a REAL Formal night.

PLEASE SAVE A REAL FORMAL NIGHT!!!!

IF YOU ANNOUNCE THAT YOU WILL STICK TO YOUR RULES, PEOPLE WILL DRESS OR EAT ELSEWHERE. BUT I BET THEY WILL DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry.......Specialty Restaurants and Blu are now smart casual everynight. Husband loves it...me, not so much. I miss seeing everyone in their finest.

  8. Our son is now grown up and left home. We just had the one, I am not a natural 'earth mother'.

One thing that I find very difficult to tolerate is noise. The higher the pitch, the worse I find it. I don't have music or the TV volume up high and I wear ear-plugs if I go to the cinema. Exposure to noise doesn't 'de sensitize' me, it just gives me a stonking headache.

We try not to cruise on dates, ships, itineraries that would be expected to have a lot (or any) children. However, we did travel on Azura at Christmas last year. We have taken only 6 cruises, only one of these on an adult only ship. Even I cannot pretend that children have caused many problems on the cruises I have taken - probably fewer than I would expect on a similar land-based trip.

However, apart from things already mentioned, the one thing that drives me absolutely mad is having my seat kicked by the person behind me - usually a child swinging his/her legs. The constant knocking is not only aggravating, it also causes me actual physical pain. It is not a harmless childhood foible!

That child was also on my flight from france to New York.........grrrr!!!!!!!!

  9. For most of the time that I have been sailing Celebrity, it has been very uncommon for Celebrity to reach out to a passenger and offer an upgrade. Some cruise lines like Oceania do this all the time, and will contact a client (directly or through their TA) and offer significant upgrades for a very good price, as sailing date draws near. This did not seem to be a strategy in Celebrity's inventory management system.

More and more frequently, I have been reading on this Celebrity forum, of people being "offered" upgrades. Is this something that Celebrity is doing more often now, and are these upgrades offered at prices that are better than what can be found on the Celebrity website, or on the Exciting Deals?

After many cruises, I have yet to be offered an upgrade by Celebrity. I was just wondering if there is something a cruiser can do to optimize the chances of being offered an upgrade. :p

Nope, never....and we are elite first cruise in 1990.

  10. I've been on a number of cruises that returned to port for a medical emergency. One time it was because an infant got very sick and needed to be intubated and they could not do that on the ship. Another time it was an elderly person who fell and broke a leg.

Thanks! Good to know that they actually do return to port.

  11. Sure, we've had that happen twice now, and reading posts here it happens with some regularity. Not too unusual.

First day stress tends to bring on medical problems. The one's we have experience with have been heart attacks and strokes.

Thanks! I've often wondered as I have never heard about a ship returning to port (other than the first day).

  12. Since they left port less than an hour earlier, I doubt that they would do this- they would do it while in port, or wait until the next POC.

Seems like medical emergencies right at or after sailaway are all too common. IMO, this is more likely. Possibly a ship mechanical issue, but less likely.

I wonder if they do actually return to port for medical emergency...has anyone ever been on a cruise that actually returned to port for medical reasons (other than someone overboard)

  13. More than likely it's a medical emergency.......but I'm just guessing

Sadly, crew members may have gotten the devasting news of a loved ones passing from the storm in the Phillipines. Cruise lines are doing their best to get some of the crew members home to family.

  14. While sailing on the Norwegian Gem last saturday night, I witnessed a strange and unexplained sight off the starboard side.

My wife woke me up sometime around one or two o'clock and said " quick! come out on the balcony - I see the weirdest thing! Floating above the waves were balls of light, about the size of tennis balls. They were moving with the ship as birds do, rising up and dancing around before drifting out of sight.

At any one time there were from one to about a dozen of these objects. They seemed to rise up from the water surface and fly upward to just above the ship. My wife called them "glow birds", they reminded me of Tinkerbell. At no time did we see any evidence of wings or recognizable shape, even when the glowing spheres passed in front of the white smoke drifting up from the ship's smokestack.

No, we weren't drunk or under the influence! We watched the show for about 20 minutes then went back to bed. That evening the ship had left St. Thomas and was en route to Samana, Dominican Republic. So at that time I believe we were sailing between Puerto Rico and Samana.

    Anyone have a similar experience?

P.S. At a meeting with the cruise staff my wife mentioned this to the captain who had no explanation. He probably thought we were nuts!

WOW!!! That would have been something to see!!! Did the cruise chatge extra for the show? :)

  15. Confused? What ships accept cash when playing in the casino? Never seen players handing over cash when they lose or get it when they win. Maybe I don't spend enough time in casino, just walk thru it.

Slot machines also take cash...pays out with a paper slip you turn in at the booth for cash...IF you win :)
