  1. I don't think they did. How are you calculating that more elites were created? Maybe I am missing something, but anyone who had 10 or more old points that was Elite is still Elite. Those who were close are still close. Those who were a little further away are now a little more so.

look below...they had 9 points total but are now Elite level with extra bonus points

  2. It's just as fair as those with exactly 10 old points getting the same benefits as those with more than 40 or 50.

And it looks like people who were close to earning an EXISTING higher tier were given a small boost so that they would reach the new tier in about the same time. If everyone within a single 7 (or similar) cruise doesn't get the bump, then that would be unfair.

It comes down to money (doesn't it always? :D). The old program would either have diluted the benefits so that it was too difficult to deliver them (overcrowded Elite Lounge, everyone in the Elite check-in line, etc.) or forced Celebrity to scale them back.

This way, it will be harder for new people to reach the upper levels and that is a risk Celebrity is obviously willing to take. If this program is competitive with other cruise lines, then the gamble will pay off. If it isn't, then some people will change cruise lines. As long I like the Celebrity product, the rewards program is fairly low on the list of my selection criteria.

Am I missing something? Did they just not add more Elites into the mix and in Elite Lounge?

  3. So you disagree with the 750 point cut off....ok, where would you have set it? I bet everyone with 400 or more points feel they should have gotten more.

Btw...who gets elite with under 10 old or 300 new points?

No, what I disagree with is only offering bonus points to some and not others.

  4. 1) those who were one point away from elite are being given extra points so that they can make elite on their next 7 day cruise, even in an inside cabin.

    2) Those who are near one of the new levels weren't working toward any benefits so there is no reason to give them extra points.

I think this is extremely fair and well thought out.

If anyone is already elite and close to a new level....congratulations, you now have something to work for...perhaps you will upgrade your next cabin or take another cruise to get those additional perks.

I am sure there are some who will call celebrity and complain or threaten to cancel their cruise because they were close to elite plus, but now it's a little harder to get to...but IMHO that's unreasonable. Sure everyone wants something for ME...but this is a new program and now you have a reason to cruise more with celebrity, the brand you have already chosen.

I don't agree.....it use to be harder to get to Elite and now EVERONE is Elite. The peeps with 740 points get the same as the peeps with (in some cases) less than 300 points. How is that possibly fair???????

  5. It's interesting that they are giving bonus points to people who are near the Elite level, but nothing to people who are near the Elite Plus level. Yes, I get that the Elite plus level didn't exist prior to the conversion, but I wonder how they justify not giving the same amount of bonus points to people that are above the Elite level, and theoretically have demonstrated "even more loyalty to Celebrity".

Someone who has spent enough $$ to reach 270 points gets a bonus of 16 points, but someone who has spent enough $$$$$ to reach 720 points doesn't get the same consideration? Hardly an equitable proram. (Doesn't affect me, by the way. Just sayin'.)

ITA!!! Seems to be the case with upgrades, too. I feel they look at loyalty as ...we already have you as a customer more important that we get the newbies loyalty.

  6. The best place to ask this question is the Florida Departures Board.

I do post there often though so will provide my input here.

I would look into the following hotels:

    Hampton Inn

    Marriott Marquis

    Intercontinental

    Hyatt

    Marriott

Personal I would recommend the first three over the last two but wanted you to have a range not knowing your budget.

    Keith

Any tips on Beaux Arts? THANKS!!!

  7. It appears they are trying to be fair. Although I can't read it all, because it only flashes on the screen for a sec, and I had to read it sec by sec, they are awarding me 30 bonus points because I was so close to elite. Of course, since I don't know the new tier point system, I have no idea what that means to me, but everyone should remain calm and wait to see what happens to your CC membership.

Then I should be offered 60 bonus points for elite plus

  8. Children are allowed to sit at the bar or in lounges unless it's Adult only.

That's where they order their drinks. There's no other place for them to get a Coke, a blender virgin drink, etc.

Thank you! That is a better question...what bars on Celebrity are adult only?

  9. It looks like this change will significantly slow the growth of higher tiers.

Assuming the points are per night, I went back and recalculated our history. We had 10 credits, 63 nights, mostly inside cabins but one 7 night AQ and one 12 night 2C.

Using the new system on my cruise history, I would have 157 points now instead of the 300 points I have with the 10 credit conversion.

So for our sailing pattern, the new program is a 50% reduction in the speed of advancement...

My points flashed (fro just a second) making my points X30

  10. I would doubt it unless they are 18 and maybe have signed the "ok to drink" paperwork? But more importantly, why would they...saddest thing I saw was 2 drunk parents with their kids at a bar...

Thanks! It's hard enough to get a seat at the bar as it is. Plus, the time of year we booked has me thinking I may want to switch my cruise to another date.

p.s. Yes, we do like children :)

  11. When I joined the Captain's Club, I had had one cruise on Chandris before it became "Celebrity." I pointed that out to them (can't remember if I ever sent any "proof") and I did get credit for it. On the cruise history it just says "unknown" or something along those lines but doesn't mention the ship.

    Tucker in Texas

I have several also on my cruise history with a date of 1970???????

  12. From reading the comments from the Founders members, I don't think any of them seriously thought they would automatically be Zenith. It was more wishful thinking.

But who knows, I may be wrong.

LOL! I don't expect to be automatically paced in Zenith level. I also wouldn't turn it down if it were offered. :D

  13. Clearly you haven't seen the binoculars they supply as a cabin ammenity in CC cabins and above. They are toy like and built very poorly. I tried Googling the model just for the fun of it and only came up with a company that sold them as chotskies - the kid of cheap plastic stuff company's buy to stamp their name on and then give away by the hundreds or thousands at promotional events.

If you think you'll want binoculars to use on your cruise then you better bring your own.

They were free on our Alaska cruise several years ago.

  14. Hi!

I am another one with Founder status. But let's not forget that Celebrity paid back all the membership fees. If you didn't get yours, you might be a little late.

I never got a credit for $100. However, we did receive quite a few vouchers (overcharge for taxes and ?) for another cruise IF booked within a very short period of time. Couldn't use them within the time frame........:(

  15. I hope that is the way it plays out. I think the fairest way to assign the points is to base it on days sailed. It's fine to also add some bonus points that reflect the $$$ spent, as for suites, and onboard spending, but what I think is fundamental is the number of days sailed.

Will they count the cruises before Captains Club was available?
