  1. Your 29-night sailing sounds like a dream! I would love to sail the South Pacific, but I fear I will have to wait until retirement. Sailing P&O appeals, as well.

I've sailed an October repo on Norwegian Dawn, and I had a magnificent time. (In spite of Hurricane Sandy! :p) Our repo was from Quebec City to Tampa, and the weather was colder than normal. We also had a lot of sea days. The one feature of the ship that saved me was the thermal suite in the spa. I highly recommend you spend the $199 for the fortnight for access to this area.

    Happy sailing! :)

    Hi John

Thanks for your message and interest. Yes the thermal suite sounds like a fun place and will be in that! we love sea days and often book repo or transatlantic that have sea days...price is lower and it's more relaxing. Often meet many gay guys on these as well.

  2. Hi everyone

We are sailing on P&O Arcadia from Singapore to Southhampton, March 25th...29 days, our longest cruise yet! Our first time on P&O so we'll see how it goes. This is an adults only ship which really appeals! :)

Also Oct 30th we are doing a repo NCL Dawn cruise from Boston to New Orleans via the Caribbean

    Regards

    Rod and Barry, Australia

  3. Yes there are nightly LBGT meetings on NCL. They are scheduled for 7 or 8 -- not 10 like on carnival.

The unfortunate timing of the NCL Friends of Dorothy meetings are that they are at 7pm..right in the middle of dinner for most... we usually meet up with others and make our new time that suits all..often 5-6 ish

  4. Rod and Barry,

Thanks so much for your reply! Glad you had a great time. Political situation is deteriorating. Any comments on how that affected y'all or not. Thanks so much!

No effect at all...we were very welcomed...none of the people care less about it...it's not an issue at all. The only people to stay away are the Americans! All other peoples are there enjoying it all. Most of the people on Volga Dream cruises are Aussies which surprised us, then Germans, Belgians and others. Do not put off your trip!

  5. We are just back from a fabulous cruise aboard Volga Dream. This is truly a 5 star boat. Food was amazing each day with varied menus of superb food. Cabins while rather small were very comfy, had good size bathrooms and all we needed. Staff particularly engaging and friendly.

Volga Dream puts you in 5 star hotel in St Petersburg and Moscow..much better than other lines that keep you on the boat. The cruise port is nowhere near the city and you would have a 2 hour trip each day through heavy with traffic..so think carefully before you select one of those lines. We recommend Volga Dream highly.

    regards

    Rod and Barry

  6. Sorry Texas Outlaw, I meant Rodbarry who it seems should be back now unless they are staying on in Europe for awhile. Their post indicated they were going mid August. Just wanted to get feedback on their recent trip and I imagine you would like to hear as well. Happy sailing.

Yes we have just finished the cruise. Spectacular! Volga dream is truly a beautiful experience Amazing food each night..mix of Western and Russian. 5 star dining. Staff are so friendly and engaging. St.Petersburg and Moscow are great and much better staying in the hotels in the cities rather than the other cruise lines where you stay onboard and have 2 hours travelling each day in city traffic.

Lectures and activities on board very interesting. I learnt enough Russian to manage simple conversations on land.

Villages on the cruise are simple and you only have four hours at each port but that is enough.

    You will love it!

    Rod and Barry

  7. We are going on our first P&O from SIngapore to Southhampton in March 2015 (the world cruise leaves from Sthhampton on Feb 17). Whilst we think this will be a little different for us, we believe a cruise is what you make it, no matter who's on board.

We find there are always some fabulous people to meet and have a good time with..on sea days we have a busy time chatting with friends, playing cards, getting involved in activities etc, so we imagine this cruise won't be any different.

    Regards

    Rod and Barry

  8. We are going in July on the same cruise. Unfortunately, there are very few comments on CC for this ship. We are going based on numerous sources and hopeful it all turns out well. My only concerns are 1) there seems to be lots of cruising time between ports on a small ship 2) the age of river cruisers tend to be much higher than my family.

Well everything I have read is very positive, maybe except for cabin space in the type of cabin we have...cheapest! But that doesn't worry us we are always up around the ship. Sure you will love the cruising, much of the time between ports will be at night. You will be fully occupied, never fear! Let us know your thoughts o your return..are you plat or gold? we took gold

  9. Hi everyone,

We are George and Matt, we would like to go to the luncheon if there are room available.

Hi George and Matt, well well last minute entrants! Yes of course you're welcome. We are now 20 and we'll see if there are any advances on the first day, otherwise we'll book for that. 12.30pm 2nd day in dining room. Any queries we are in 2027

    Rushing to pack

    See you all there

    Rod and Barry

  10. Now that the luncheon group is large we need to consider the best way to divide up so that we get to know each other. Tables that seat more than six make good conversation difficult so I suggest three tables of

six and perhaps some kind of switching between courses. And perhaps couples shouldn't sit together. I leave it to the more mathematically inclined to work out the formula.

    Jay and Al

Hi everyone, so we will have 18 and as Jay & Al suggest maybe 3x6 at tables is better for conversation, we aren't really fussed as long as we enjoy it! Not sure about couples not sitting together at first..let's just go with the flow and see what people want to do. See you all Saturday!

    Rod and Barry

  11. Hi Tim & Dale

Well done! Join us, now we are 14. We'll have 2 tables, probably, in order to chat easily..shall make a list of everyone tomorrow

    Regards

    Rod and Barry

    Hi everyone

7 days to go! Last week, how good is that!

We have 14 for lunch on day 2 at 12.30 in the MDR...we shall book.

List is Jay & Al, Lee & Noboru, Tom & Al, Ellen & MaryLynn, Peter & Larch, Tim & Dale, Rod & Barry

Safe travelling for everyone, no doubt some have left/are leaving soon for extra time in Japan..see you all there :)

    Regards

    Rod & Barry

  12. Hi All - If you don't mind 2 more for lunch we'd like to join you as well if you don't mind it not being an all male lunch date. We are Ellen and MaryLynn and look forward to meeting you all on board.

    Hello Ellen and MaryLynn

Welcome girls, we are getting quite a sizeable group now, may even need 2 tables!!..see you on Day 2 if not at the Celebrity party

    Regards

    Rod and Barry

  13. Greetings from Shanghai. Glad to see that the luncheon group is growing.

Thanks Rod and Barry for being the moderator for this.

The weather is unseasonably cool in China - only in the low 70's but since the humidity is high that's OK with us. Once in a while you even can see the sun peeking through the pollution! We would probably like to join the trivia group.

    Jay and Al

Hi Jay & Al, glad all is going well for you guys, and pity it's heavy pollution for you, makes walking round uncomfortable...hopefully you are going out of the cities where it will be better! Yes we have 10 for lunch now

    Regards

    Rod and Barry

  14. I expect that the two of us will be able to join the other six at lunch on Day 2 (sea day).

We will also attend the evening GLBT cocktail gatherings to meet other GLBT passengers (including those not on Cruise Critic). For the uninitiated, please check the announcement board adjacent to the Guest Relations desk for time & location of the GLBT gathering. I will be pleasantly surprised if this activity is posted in the daily newsletter we all get in our cabins.

    Tom & Al

    Hi Tom & Al

Good to hear! Just let us know if you do decide so as Jay said we know how many to expect at the door! Thanks indeed!

    Regards

    Rod and Barry

  15. Hello, Peter and Larch here. I have been stalking the board for awhile so decided to post now that our plans are firm.

This is our first trip to Asia and doing a Transpacific. We did Transatlantic last year.

We will be in Tokyo on Wed evening the 7th. We are going to Disney for the first few days before boarding the ship. I know kinda cheesy but I have always wanted to go there.

Once on the ship , we can typically be found at any and all trivia games.

We have nothing planned for Hakodate. We are thinking of walking around town and maybe do the tram to the top of mountain.

We are doing the trip to the Volcano on Sapporo stop with the cruise line.

The Russian port we are playing by ear but plan to get off the ship if we can. Our discussions with our travel agent and Celebrity directly indicate one does not need a visa for Petropavlovsk. Who knows with current political climate these days and what it will be like in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed I can cross another country off my list. :)

Safe travels to all and hope to meet you aboard the ship.

    Arigato,

    Peter

    Hello Peter and Larch

Thanks for coming out of the shadows and meeting us all! :) Join our little group! As you've read 6 of us are meeting for lunch on the 2nd day if interested let us know. We are also doing our own thing in Hakodate and getting the tram around and going up the mtn etc. Probably we won't even go to Sapporo given the distance, we'll just enjoy the local town. No wonder you're going to enjoy Disney first, great fun for you

    Kind regards

    Rod and Barry

  16. This board has been very quiet and now we leave tomorrow for China. We are flying to Haneda from Shanghai on May 7 and taking the train down to the port on May 10 which is very simple IF you understand the Japanese subway system which looks like a plate of spaghetti when viewed on the metro map.

If I am correct only six of us have expressed interest in lunching together in the MDR on May 11. Hoping that Tom and Al/ Tim and Dale will join us also.

I'll be checking in every few days during our travels.

    Jay and Al

    hi Jay & Al

Safe journeying! Will see you onboard..yes as you say 6 of us for lunch on the 2nd day...guess we'll hear before long where the " meet and mingle" celebrations party is maybe on the 2nd day also

    Regards

    Rod and Barry
