I knew when I saw this thread title it was going to be about the Eclipse.  I have seen a big spike in the last couple months of complaints about the food on the ship on the reviews here.  I've been reading them out of excitement for an upcoming cruise on the ship.  I just made my final payment on an Eclipse cruise in Alaska and I'm getting pretty nervous about it.  I hope whatever has gone wrong on that ship is resolved quickly!

We were on the Eclipse for fifteen days as well and loved the ship!  No offense to the original OP, but honestly, if that is the way you feel, then I say take your business elsewhere.  I recently fell and broke my wrist on a sidewalk in my hometown.  I can't blame anyone for the snow on the sidewalk.  Nor can anyone blame Celebrity for some wet steps. I have seen incidents on ships and always someone comes immediately to help.  I have seen incidents on land and people come to your aid.  If the poster is that upset, I say go ahead and change cruise lines.  Hope they are happier elsewhere.

This is still distressing to me in spite of the fact travel agency thinks our Feb 1 cruise will not be affected.  I am still concerned we will not be notified of itinerary change until after final payment.   This happened with NCL cruise (parent company) after hurricane damage.  Our cruise had to be changed and some ships got our itinerary with necessary changes and our ship got an itinerary with ZERO of the booked ports.    Is there any way of finding out if Cuba will still be our itinerary?  Our booked cruise is all Cuba, the absolute best of the Cuba itineraries I could find.

I am booked on the same cruise.  Just waiting to see how things shake loose.  Bad thing is I already have my airfare so at the least I will have to find another cruise at that time.  Never get air this early but had to because of the super bowl.  We have some time until final payment.  You can always opt out of the cruise if it is stressing you out.  No way are we going to know anything at this time when the policies have not yet been set.

Yes we have found French fries to be very good and family has said soft serve ice cream very good.  Hotdogs and hamburgers pretty good but not quite as good as some cruise lines who have special areas around pool with real grills making them fresh.....i have not found the pizza as good on vision as with other ships but there is a variety of staff items that should please most people who love salads.

I was asked about price of alcoholic beverages and it appears that most are saying prices are equal to or greater than other cruise lines.  I can say that the few drinks that our crowd has purchased it has been slightly more expensive than the 15 day cruise we took on holland america last December.   But all of them still agreed it was still cheaper for them to buy individual drinks than committing to any of the beverage packages......

we went to chops last night (compliments of our travel agent) and found the meal very good.  Steaks were wonderful, shrimp large and of course the quiet elegant environment is an added benefit away from the busy, sometimes noisy dining room.  Our family would not cash up and pay for these meals but nice when you get them thrown in as a thank-you by travel agent

regarding questions about shops:  yes there are periods during day that shops are not opened.  Last night we went by to take a stroll through prior to dinner and they were closed until 6:30 and the staff member nearby mentioned that it was opened and closed at various times.  I guess i missed that notice but it was no big deal......

regarding medical services:  yes medical services are noted in the daily schedule and mentions specific times that medical unit is open and closed......yesterday it was a few hours in morning and then a couple of hours late in the afternoon

regarding cabin services:  yes our services have improved since they did whatever staff changes that took place on our 2nd full day for several of our cabins on the 8th deck.  I think it important to note that it is always good to ask cabin stewards on the first day any questions you might have. (how to operate TV, how to secure certain items or accommodations that you had requested that are not in room, how often you prefer ice).   Some cruise lines have their staff take the time to specifically address this when they come to room to introduce themselves and others do not.  For example on several of our Princess and Holland American cruises we have often had cabin stewards to greet us at which time they ensure they know how to pronounce our name, ensure the items that travel agents have purchased are inour room, ensuring we have items we requested related to medical accommodations, ensuring we have ice and to ensure we know how to operate the TV and telephone.  But a lot of cruise lines dont do that.  So just be sure you ask any questions that you have........if there is no answer or you still have questions then call customer services

As far as the shops being open....that has to do with laws of operation.  Shops can not be open while in port.  Last night I assume you were still in US waters.  That happened on our cruise out of Baltimore as well.  They were not able to open until they were in (international?) waterways.  So my guess is that you were still navigating in US waters.

If I don't see my room steward for requests on the first day, then I write them a note with my requests which has worked well for me!

    Have fun!  Enjoying your posts!

I am sailing on her soon...8039.  Now I am nervous.

Don't be nervous, really.  I have been on many, many cruises on many different lines and you will enjoy your trip!  Although Vision is a bit older, she is still a beautiful ship and lots of fun.  We spent a couple of cruises on her last January, and are going back in a couple of weeks.  Just got off the Grandeur in December which is a sister ship.  Maybe these ships do not have all the bells and whistles that the newer ones do, but they are still very entertaining and an overall nice experience.  Many like these ships as they are not so big and a bit more intimate.  For desserts, try the ones in the coffee bar on deck six?.  They serve Starbucks, which costs, but the desserts and items in the refrigerated case are for everyone and no cost (you don't have to get the coffee).  Also, watch for the theme nights at the buffet, each day is different and you might find you will enjoy those evening buffets as much as the dining room...Park Cafe serves pizza and nachos later in the evening when the buffet closes.

  5. Looking to stay about an hour away for the port.  We will be traveling from Ohio and would like to find a spot along highway 78.  Any suggestions of towns that might be about an hour or so away.  Family of four looking for a less expensive hotel than those close to the port.

  6. Sometimes two cabins can be as cheap as one for four people. Just make sure your price it out both ways to be sure. Just kind of depends on supply and demand for the given week.

This is definitely true! Depending on when you travel, etc., the two cabin option may be the same price.

Also I booked my grandson in my mom's stateroom and he slept with his parents. All can work out that way too!

  7. We will be on the Royal in March. Was wondering if it is possible to take my 85 yr. old mom to Nelson's Dockyard. First, is there an easy way to get there? Is it fairly flat, not a lot of steps or uneven surfaces? Are there benches to sit? She is able to walk, slowly and carefully and I think she would enjoy the atmosphere and a little shopping. All the shore excursions seem to take you to several places and I thought we could sort of be on our own schedule if we went on our own. Any thoughts?

  8. Noooooooo!!! This is so very disappointing!!! That show was one of the main reasons we booked those ships. Absolutely loved the Corning glass shows. We would go every single night and found it to be one of the most interesting and enjoyable events on our cruises. Celebrity, you are losing such a great treasure and partnership by doing this! We always would seek the ships with the glass blowing when booking a cruise. I can not tell you how disappointed I am.

  9. Since Carnival tells me I need to have it I’m going with that. Booking late is no excuse (except maybe same day) not to have my ducks in a row and the required and requested documents that the cruise line says I need upfront. I don’t plan on testing it out. If a large crowed failed to follow directions and no one had their Boarding Passes that Carnival says are required, it would be quite a cluster at embarkation.

I can see them making an exception in cases of emergency like this, but it should not be done on a regular basis. Why should I and others be delayed because I’m unprepared?

Oh and I wonder what would happen at Port Everglades at the security gate? They require you to show your boarding pass and Passport before they let you in to the port itself.

She is just replying to the post with what her experience has been and I agree with her. I don’t think anyone said no one should bring their documents, but in the event they are forgotten it is no big deal.
