Top Chef fans - finale will be on HAL ship
markpark replied to sue1898's topic in Holland America Line
Curacao then Half Moon Cay then Aruba. Wasn't the timeline presented as moving between the three in two overnight sequences? Looks to me that there was some time shifting there with the editing. The one eliminated last week, I believe, was present in Aruba as a non-finalist. My memory is that she was presented as being eliminated at Half Moon Cay. Love seeing the ship, though! -
Yes. Currently buying a $500 gift card monthly to pay for our cruise over New Years. I have to call each time to make the payment. They do not process on the online payment system.

I called the 855-501-4161 number to redeem a card and was politely told that this line was for support: lost cards, etc. Two months in a row I have tried to redeem an AARP Holland America gift card on the HAL website for a booking and have been unsuccessful. I have had to call both months.

Late departure from Houston after cruise

Bummer. RCL has a NASA tour on the way to the airport. That would be a really good option. -

How do you rate MDR menu these days?

One more comment: The best food item I ate during out time on Voyager of the Seas was the Roasted Atlantic Cod on the lunch menu. I only saw it one day. I think it was Day 2. -
Parking at Royal Caribbean Galveston Terminal
markpark replied to CruisingFans's topic in Gulf Coast Departures
It is recommended by most experienced cruisers that you drop of your bags with porters and then park but you would be fine if you do not want to do that for some reason. You must walk right by the porters because they force everyone from North Lot to the crosswalk on the east side of the terminal. To be honest we also had two bags on wheels (they fit in the airline overhead bin) and we kept them with us. We were unpacked and evening clothes laid out by 2pm since we did not have to wait on bags to be delivered. To each his own. -
Did not pay for Starlink. The WiFi was adequate everywhere except for the balcony when using the Royal App. WiFi was spotty on the balcony. Yes, the ship was very clean. The food was really good, but I would not say outstanding. I do think that the portions were smaller than 2018. The entertainment was good. We attended the show every evening and enjoyed the shows. Again, not outstanding but enjoyable. We also enjoyed the game show entertainment in the Star Lounge.

The Port of Galveston Terminal 10 North Lot is a wonderful location. Terminal 10 itself is great. The new technology is easy embarkation and disembarkation. -

Just off the Voyager and found MDR food really good. Not excellent but really good. I do think the portions are smaller. -
Yes, the door to the outside walking track is right next to the room. However, it is the single door with the port hole window not the automatic sliding door. The automatic sliding door is adjacent to the starboard elevators. (You can touch both your cabin door and the single door standing outside your cabin door). We enjoyed the location. Pop out that door, down the walking track to the aft of the ship, down one level on the stairs and you are at the Windjammer. Easy access to the Solarium also. Solarium closed at 8pm so noise was not an issue while sleeping. Room 1838 is close to the elevators to pop down to entertainment venues. Take the elevators to Deck 5 and cross the Promenade to Main Dining Rooms. Deck 4 is an outside route from the forward elevators to the Main Dining Rooms. We did not feel the ocean, as far as swaying with the waves, any more than the lower levels. We could hear the ocean very well from the balcony.

Just got assigned this room after booking GTY for 4-night departing Aug 31, 2023. I think we will like the location.

How did you decide to take your very first cruise ?
markpark replied to lenquixote66's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Tenth wedding anniversary in 1994 and wanted something special. We did a three night to make sure we did not get seasick. It is one of our favorite vacation choices. We enjoy cruising because it is relaxing for us and we also enjoy main dining room dining (even "formal" night) followed by a show. I will never forget the enjoyment of being seated with Americans, Canadians, and an English couple while sailing to Alaska. -

We have reserved North Lot at Terminal 10, Voyager of the Seas. We tend to pack light and self-disembark. We have always used the porters and waited for our bags. With light luggage and parking in North Lot, can I skip the porters and handle our bags ourselves on embarkation also? Rooms will probably be ready by the time we embark. We could get started unpacking quicker. -
It is worth a shot. DW and I did process upon re-entry at Calgary (YYC) by arriving 3.5 hours before flight because we have no international airport nearby. It was smooth and fairly quick. They did tell us if we had been an hour later that we would not have been able to do process upon re-entry because the employees would have been too busy.

We enjoyed the ferry. We got to see dolphins. Your experience may vary.
