  1. Hi,

If you don't like flying you could just go and catch the Spirit of Tasmania out of Devenport which is not far from Ulverstone in Tasmania, she also has just completed a full overhall. All you would have to do is transfer your luggage from one side of the Pier to the other side onto the Golden Princess. You could go and get breakfast at the cafe at the end of the Pier near the gatehouse or the cafe next to the tram terminal across the road whilst waiting for the Golden Princess to open her boarding up. There is no need for you to fly. I hope that helps

    Regards,:):)

It's a good idea in theory, but being that tad bit older, I wouldn't be able

to cope with the chairs for a night by morning I would be bent double.

Plus the price in summer is not good, no I will stick with flying and grimly

    do my Sudoku.:D:D

  2. Thanks a lot.

I really need to be reminded that in 8 weeks it will all be over.

Maybe I can arrange for you bed to be short sheeted.

Now that's just plain mean, short sheeting my bed indeed.:)

Look at it this way, you will be on her for nearly 5 weeks, poor little

me only 2, although I am tempted to book the Golden from Melbourne

to New Zealand in Feb or March next year, still have to face a flight

though no matter what, our bit of water is a pain at times, and I hate

    flying.:(:(

  3. Thank you gbenjo and gut for the times. We are flying to Sydney the

day before and staying with friends who are also on the cruise.

We are thinking of catching a ferry to Circular Quay, dropping off

luggage and then going to one of the pubs, mind you that could be

interesting as one glass of wine and I am nearly legless these days.:D:D

  4. Hi everyone,

Let me start by saying that I know that there is a lot of angst on the boards (not so much the Aus boards) in regards to people getting a great deal booking very late, and therefore the very loyal miss out on great deals so this is not meant to rub salt into anyone’s wounds but rather tell my story.

After a late decision to change plans from going to China to deciding on cruising from Canada to Hawaii for my 50th birthday (and seeing my son who is currently living in Banff), on 22 nd September Celebrity Solstice cruise, I have been waiting to book it as it is now only 6 weeks away. Flights have been booked and paid for about 6 weeks ago.

When I first started looking the fare was $2700 aud but included the 123 go offer (for a 2B cabin), however due to changes at work I was unable to book at that time.

    After receiving some advice here on the boards, I held off booking and monitored available staterooms;

I had been waiting for the celebrity Tuesday exciting deal to be loaded into the system yesterday. The cruise was advertised as going on sale but unlike all of the other listed cruises for some reason the cruise went up in price yesterday. After a few deep breaths and check of cabin availability, I decided there was nothing I could do but wait it out. I received an email overnight notifying me that in fact my cruise had gone down in price, so at 2.30am last night I booked it!

I originally had thought we would book aqua class but noticed the availability was dropping rapidly but there were still 26 Concierge cabins available, when I logged in aqua was not available but concierge was for $1249 for a guarantee (compared to $2439 for a C3), standard balcony guarantee was $1199 so only $50 more.

I did a quick scan of a few of the major online TA’s and previously had only found $150 OBC as a bonus, for some reason one big TA had free grats so I pounced! (on a 10 night cruise that’s $130 saving). Add the taxes and with free grats, all up $1357 USD (about $1860 aud)

I woke up this morning and the fare is no longer available, so I’m glad I was a crazy woman at 2.30am this morning! By the time I add in the alcohol package I will be about even if I had booked when I originally started looking.

I haven’t booked a guarantee cabin before so I will let you all know when our cabin gets allocated.

Thanks for sharing and well done.:D:D

  5. Oh boy, after reading this thread I'm pleased I only sail on Princess out

of Australia, We may pay a little more in fares and drinks but at least

we know where we are, and we always tip our cabin steward and wait

staff. Our dining staff were so bad on our last cruise though that they

    got zilch.:D:D
