We have done Celebrity our last 4 cruises & have fallen in love.
That being said, we have done RCCL & Princess and would cruise them again in a heartbeat.
(also did DCL...probably not again with kids being young adults now & how expensive they are).
Looking at Xmas cruise & flights to Galveston are very reasonable, and Carnival is by far the best priced cruise.
We have found our cruises to be more alike than different...and we are pretty easy going.
Our son has said NCL is a step down from our other cruises but still good. (my thought is any cruise is a good cruise!)
    Thoughts?

Most likely you will be dissatisfied

  2. Glad it's not just me...

I've been watching prices on a shorter cruise just prior our next sailing. Because prices have been up and down almost daily, it's been important to keep a close eye on it to see if it gets below our agreed upon 'threshold' to book. Yesterday we were just about to pull the trigger but couldn't log into the site to hold rooms & being Sunday it's the only day our TA is off.

Today prices are up darn it but, oh well - prob just not meant to be.

Like others I've honestly not had many issues w/ the X site but recently it's been kind of a pita...

Just a suggestion but next time call celebrity to create the reservation and hold your cabin tell the Celebrity operator that you agree to release the cabins to your TA. If it is before final payment you should even be able to transfer the booking to your TA of choice.

  3. I tried all the work arounds before calling. Clear cookies and cache, incognito window, 3 different browsers, logging in, not logging in and going through the main menu and entering manually. So did the Captans Club rep. No dice.

It really doesn't matter why I chose to access the site. The site's a mess AGAIN! You'd hope that after the fiasco launch of the new website last year they would have learned something about the need for preparation and testing. Don't blame the rats in the maze because the maze was built without a navigable path through it! Don't tell a passenger they shouldn't try to access the site late night or on a weekend....that's the time frame the is needed by many. Shouldn't it be Celebrity's responsibility to learn something and not passenger's who have to jump through hoops and alter when and how they plan their vacations? Call me crazy if I expect to plan my vacation at my convenience after giving the cruise company thousands!

Well Celebrity's website has been a hot mess since I started using it about ten years ago. Don't let it ruin your day.

Should they fix it? Of course but they don't seem to want to make the effort. Fortunately the on board experience doesn't reflect the web site inefficiency .

  4. Plain pasta would absolutely not be acceptable on a keto diet. If you don't know what you're talking about, perhaps refrain from joining the conversation. And the eggs cooked to order would be cooked in a fat that's not acceptable on a keto diet.

A keto diet is used to manage several conditions. The OP's question was perfectly legitimate. Sad that people choose to jump all over him, but I guess that's what the world is like these days. This used to be a place for sharing information about cruising. Not so much any more. Sad.

    very nice, thank you.

  5. But he does not do high fats.

It is called a diabetic diet.

I guess you could call it anything you like but if you limit your carbs to 25G per day and you are on a maintenance plan of 1800 calories a day you will be eating a lot of fat or you will be way over doing your proteins. If you way over indulge in proteins (without carbs available) they turn into sugar This process is called gluconeogenesis. You have then negated the low carb aspect of your diet.

  6. My husband has been a Type 2 diabetic for more than 2 decades and it is well under control. You don't need keto or any fetish diet to keep carb intake under control.

Look for meals without breading on meat, no sauce, no pasta, no rice, limit potatoes. Ask about how the food is marinated etc. No fruits, yep most fruits except for berries are loaded with carbs. Once in a while he has a few berries.

He takes no more than 15g of carb at each of his 3 meals, more often than not, about 5 to 10g of carbs only. As his wife, I sacrifice going to most Asian restaurants as most items are loaded with carbs. His most recent A1C is 5.5. Yep, that is a normal number. He is on pills only and no insulin. We exercise daily. To be healthy it takes hard work but it is well worth it.

so basically he is on a Keto diet.

  7. While this is true, this is why I suggested to just do it yourself. There are many choices one can make on a cruise, and surprisingly lots of them are found in the buffet. You can have a salad with no dressing, plain meats, plain pasta with no sauce, eggs and omelets cooked to order - it can be done. :)

    PASTA:eek:

  8. With the possible exception of Vegan (which could sometimes be considered a religious choice, and is followed by many nationalities around the world) all of the other options are for people with health issues, sometimes serious health issues. Being one of those who has to abide by one, I would ask that the staff be allowed to focus their efforts on diet choices that could be life saving. I know quite a bit about keto as my son is considering it, and I think it would be quite easy to manage on your own. The staff is very accommodating to special requests (such as no sauce on a meat entrée), so it should be very easy. They also are very good about answering any questions about food ingredients should you have any. If you want to, you can ask for the following days menu at dinner and if you have special requests you can put them in a day ahead of time.

Having said all that, I would ask people to remember that there is a health condition that keto does address - this is how the diet came to be. I don't think that is why the OP was asking, but there is a legitimate health reason some people are on keto. To the OP I would suggest that they start the diet quite some time before the cruise to see how it affects them. There are serious health problems that can occur when on keto, and most reliable sources would recommend the diet being utilized under doctor supervision.

My original post simply asked if anyone had listed Keto as a dietary option and if so what the results were. Seems like a simple question. A person's choice of what eating protocol is. well. personnal.

The Keto diet, and restrictions associated with it, date back to the 1920 when it was discovered to help control seizures in individuals suffering from epilepsy. Modern use of the Keto diet is for promoting a healthier lifestyle and controlling blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

The central point to a Keto diet is low intake of carbohydrates and sugar. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask if there can be accommodations made for individuals who are using this diet to protect their health. Many dishes have hidden Carbs and sugars, it is difficult to always make the right food and beverage choices when you are not actually preparing the meal yourself.

All that being said I am somewhat surprised by the somewhat negative comments my post has generated, lighten up folks it's food and I wasn't asking you to prepare it!:):):p

  9. There are many popular eating life styles. Celebrity is busy enough and does not need to be catering to life choices. It would be like asking for WW or a few other popluar ones.

Well, busy as they are, Celebrity already offers special diet options for Gluten free, Vegan, lactose intolerant and sugar free. Don't see why addressing a Keto diet would make them any "busyer".

  10. With the Keto diet being the new most practiced fad diet I wonder if anyone has tried to list this as a dietary request with Celebrity? If so what were the results?

  11. I love it when this happens because we can get a big group together to all commit to at least making a deposit on a cruise. Far easier than the typical $900 deposit. Any insider info here? I have not seen one in a WHILE...

Hopefully never, this type of deposit simply ties up a lot of cabins that will never be sailed. Sometimes folks book as many as four cabins on one cruise just to hold space until they decide which one they actually want.

This causes low inventory levels. which may lead to price increases. Once final payment date arrives all the excess cabins are canceled and do to the glut of inventory prices drop causing angst for many people who duly note same on cruise critic.

  12. Then again on our upcoming 1/28/19 Caribbean cruise on the Reflection, the price today for a concierge cabin is $400 per person MORE than we paid for a Sky Suite cabin with Go Best when it first came out about 18 months ago. It's amazing how prices drift up and down depending on the popularity of the cruise.

A perfect example that it is always wise to book early and then take advantage of price drops prior to final payment. We see both on this thread.

  13. There’s been a lot of price movement on my cruise, 12/27 Infinity, over this weekend. Prices dropped on most categories. CX Guarantee Concierge by 16.7 %, Now (just) less than standard balcony categories. Just have a look at your pricing. There was a drop in Celebrity’s prices but also the ‘Labor day’ sale my agency had gave larger added discount ($150) to concierge than it gave to veranda ($100) so that narrowed the already small gap between the categories. Just in case it helps anyone.

Always good to check pricing upto final payment.

  14. I boarded the Infinity about 10:30. It’s now 1 and at least 5 waiters have already asked me to buy a dining package or drink package. Including DURING the Concierge lunch.

One guy found us on the Rooftop Terrace. He was carrying a tray and a drink package brochure. I told him I had a premium package but asked him for a Coke. He told me to go to the bar and get it myself.

    This is really intrusive.

Well if they selling helps keep base cruise prices lower I am all for it. So easy to just say no thanks with a smile.
