The deck plans I find say K ... but since 2684 is right next to L2688 it really doesn't make much difference. :)

There are 2 deck plans floating around... I now see the K right next to the L in another version that whole section is classified as L...

The best part - the K version is on cruise critic, the L version is on HAL...

Again no worries, just curiosity.

I agree with Bruce, But to answer you other question, depending on the cabin/suite type Celebrity is probably going to be cheaper.

(It is usually lumped in with Princess and Holland America, not Regent & Silversea.)

Why do the cruise documents say K, but the Deck plans show L? (Both are generated by HAL...)

I wouldn't want it at the expense of missing a glacier.

Especially if that is your only glacier viewing opportunity. (Before anyone piles on, I have not researched & do not know if there are any itineraries where this is the only scenic sailing/glacier viewing opportunity... I search for what I want, not what I don't want.)

None of us had waterproof pants, and we did not feel saturated or soaked. It was a very wet week (according to ship staff and locals), and we were OK without them. Did not have umbrella's either- they would have just been in the way. We did take a couple of ponchos if it was really pouring, but these never left the suitcase either- our jackets and hoods did the job.

Many of you have read & responded to my multiple queries & shared tales of awesome assignments.

So, here I am sharing mine.

I usually sail as a trio, unable to book guarantee & we choose inside cabins. (Kinda like camping or RVing without all the work...)

I booked MM guarantee, at the time I'm not sure if I completely understood where in the insides pecking order MM falls, but by the time "Oh my gosh Its almost time for my cruise" came around, I kind of had myself convinced that it was "the best" inside rather than one rung up from the worst.:D As a trio, we never paid attention to the letters, we needed a trio or quad symbol!

I ended up getting a J on deck 2 - not bad all things considered (one deck below the biggest balcony of them all!) & instant exercise while I take the steps up the crows nest/lido/etc.

I'm so excited to get my Bon Voyage - I can barely contain myself!

I'm glad you at least liked Alaska. In 2012 when our son was 4.5 we took our first HAL cruise (Chose for the superior itinerary) & frankly LOVED it - all 3 of us - in an inside, so we didn't have the suite perks to complain about...

We'll be returning to HAL & Alaska next week & my son now 8.5 is beyond excited. (We don't watch movies/play video games at home, so that for him is part of the vacation experience. We also don't have a children's menu at home...)

I'm glad to hear that you are getting good use out of your coats.

It felt weird packing mine for next week, when we are about to hit the 90's again...

What are you using to host your photos? I use flickr. I think that other photo hosting site might be similar. If so you use BBCode (Medium is a good size for viewing in the forums)

I'll tell you next week on Amsterdam.;p (I'll probably be the only one with an 8 year old boy & as of right now I plan on attending the meet & greet with him. He needs to practice responding with his name who asked, to salutations, & the like.)

We're looking at an Alaska cruise next June, and I read on another board that it's better to wait a while longer before booking, but others said to book asap for the best price and stateroom availability.

Any help is much appreciated.

1. We're not allowed to name a specific agency. I use one that gives $ to my son's college saving account.

2. Waiting only works for those who have the availability... I work & so I have to ask for time off. Therefore, I book early during a time that won't be frowned upon. Also I like to pay over time. When I see the price go down or the perks change, I can make those changes to my booking. (I changed from view & verandah to Explore 4 on my cruise to Alaska & had a price reduction next week.)

Keeping a sharp lookout for wildlife, we did see some baldeagles, either perched in the conifers, or flying. Since the salmon are not running quite yet,there are not a lot of eagles hunting at the moment. In another week, that will change.

I hope you are right. We are on the next Amsterdam sailing... (Booked a flight in Ketchikan to see the bears & salmon at Anan Creek.)

 

We loved the entertainment on RCI ships, but reviews seem to indicate most of the entertainment has gone to the newer, huge ships. Is this true?

Since RCI doesn't go to Glacier Bay, you will only get recommendations for choosing that line from Loyal Royals. (Or by people who won't mind if you miss glacier Viewing - just recently one ship was neither able to access Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm.)

I've been on RCI & Carnival many times & like both of their products, but when I chose an itinerary form Alaska, neither one of those brands landed on my list.

You may want to do some research on Alaska & chose based on what you want to do - not on the ship or brand...

If you have convertible pants, pack them. And a pair or two of shorts that you can wash and dry in the shower.

Luckily I purchased the unlimited laundry package. But the minimalist packing theory (because of the ability to have things washed) is wreaking havoc on my desire to have choices.

Part I: the vegetarian menu

The entrees taste like they were cooked in Seattle, dehydrated, rehydrated and ‘poofed’ in a microwave 3,000 miles away. Hey, it all looks good on paper. Now for the real world….　

Does your opinion hold for the appetizers?

I'll give several of them a try (entrees included) in a couple weeks when I am in Alaska. I eat poofed microwave food already. :o)

What I don't do on sea days - worry about what time I can get off the ship or worry about what time I need to be back on the ship.

I work so sea days are like Saturdays. (someone else already said that - it was worth repeating)

Someone else is driving so I can imbibe.

Beyond that I'm not sure what exactly I do, but the time doesn't last long enough...

Ugh, I've just read a couple posts where people thought that they packed too much winter wear...

I sail on July 17th & 1/2 my brain is totally in "pack shorts" mode while the other 1/2 is in "don't bother packing shorts" mode.

What should I pack? (I was chilled on the train into work this morning...)

I want to go hiking/rambling/walking out in the open - not in a bus or shops or boats... So I don't want to be hot & miserable because my clothes are too warm.

I've seen the gamut! (tuxes & beaded cocktail dresses to slacks & shirts.)

On July 4th 2017 of HAL (similar to Princess) there was a similar report - from shirts & slacks, suits, to tuxes for the men.

I've never seen anyone turned away. with that said, my husband did not feel that he was dressed appropriately - so he chose to eat in the Lido. (Totally self-selected!)

FWIW, I just packed a shirt slacks & the requested bow tie for my 8 year old son. (I like the photos that I get from the cruise lines of him dressed up - they take the time to pose him, etc.) Not that photography is on every ones mind.
