Thanks again.
How will you notify us that your photos, menus etc. are posted to (I assume) the rodger jett (sorry if misspelled) website?

"I'm on a cruise, I'm free to do whatever I want, wherever I want."
This is the number 1 reason that things go wrong on a cruise...
Perhaps there is a bin in the salon for your trimmings? (You asking or trying to deposit them sure would give them something to giggle about in the evening.)
-
Can you get your kids perspective on their room?
-

Onboard, temperature indoor is regulated.
Some find this to be colder than they like.
"I" wear a hoodie/sweater at least more often than not.
-
If I may ask, what package did you choose? (What did you not choose?)
Bus not train
Meal plan (All 3 meals?)
HAL excursions only?
All of these questions are why I chose the 14-night cruise instead...

Hi, are you doing a 7 night or 14 night cruise on the Amsterdam? We are on the 14 night cruise at the end of July, first time in Alaska and the Amsterdam. Daughter is very nervous that she'll feel sea-sick in Alaska if the seas are rough. How did you find it?
There are a few points where it can/might/will be rough - Seattle to Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point to Anchorage, Kodiak to Hubbard, & Sitka to Victoria. (When the ship is in the Gulf of Alaska or the Pacific Ocean while not being sheltered.)
From Conde Nast Traveler's list of the World's Roughest Cruise Itineraries:
Alaska: If you didn't expect to see Alaska on this list, you'd be right—if we were talking about Alaska's Inside Passage, which is one of the calmest bodies of water in the world. However, any ship crossing the Gulf of Alaska—especially after Labor Day—can experience varying degrees of turbulence.

Many previous posts indicate that the drop-off/pick-up for the shuttle is at the Eagan Center on the 5th Avenue side. Now, your information is saying differently. I have Anchorage-residing relatives whom I want to meet and not knowing EXACTLY where is becoming a major irritant to me.
Apparently, "it depends" is the official answer. On the AK board, based on my date I was told the Civic Center... (That CC member is a local & probably looked at a calendar of activities of something - I didn't ask, I just took the information as it was presented on a public forum for free & thanked her/him for providing the information.)
-
Although in the past most of the shuttles dropped at the Egan, they have been using several different venues. If you arrive on July 24, the schedule has you being dropped at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center at 600 W 7th Ave.
Thanks again, yes we do arrive on the 24th in Anchorage. Is 600 W 7th Ave near the visitors center? (What I assume to be the sod roofed building?)
I need to come up with a rendezvous point, since meet me at the ship is probably not an option.

Thanks.

Enjoy your cruise & thank you for coming back to tell us what you chose.

Whale Watching in Icy Strait Point.
(This is available in Juneau as well, but there are more "things" to do in Juneau, including helicopter to Glacier.)
The elders may like to train in Skagway...

On our itinerary, Anchorage is a stop, not the beginning/terminating (is Seward/Whittier) of a cruise.
When the ship docks in Anchorage, I assume there will be a shuttle from the ship since this is an industrial port.
Where does the shuttle drop you off in town?
Can you go back & forth, or is this a port where you should plan to be off the ship all day or where once you return you should plan on staying on the ship?
I will have access to a private car (my friend was going to show us around, but she has to work, so we will only be able to meet for dinner, with that said, she is letting us use her car), will I be able to park the car, return to the ship, go back to the car? (We are in port from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
(Can I shower & change on the ship after hiking prior to dinner in Anchorage?)

That Tracy Arm small boat excursion was my most favorite excursion ever.
But I can see why you are torn. It is not available on my next AK cruise or I probably would have signed up for it again.
With that said...
On our next cruise, we have 2 flights planned, so Juneau is going to be one of our inexpensive days - Mt. Roberts &/or Mendenhall.

My mother in law is also very picky & from what we've experienced, with the exception of vegan fare, the cruise lines (we've been on a few) are very accommodating!
-
I'll be on Amsterdam in steerage (MM Guarantee - all of the suites are sold) in late July & I can't wait.
I'll be on vacation from work I'm going to see Alaska including some rarely visited ports. :)

Alaska just like this?
1. The season is limited (increases demand)
2. There are limited options (especially if you are considering flights)
3. Cruise Ship passengers are a captive audience.
4. The prices in AK are high in general.
All of this limits the necessity of local vendors to offer discounts. Instead people choose independent for a bit more control &/or smaller groups.
-
When are you wanting to fly - next week, next month, next year?
Are they both still available?
Do you have OBCs (On Board Credits) that you need to use?
I would choose independent if I could, but that was a whole lot of "I's."
I did in fact choose to book independently for a flight out of Ketchikan to see bears in Anan Creek. I booked in October 2016 for a July 2017 cruise - I did not want for it to be sold out...
-
I looked forward to the traditional Juneau cookout only to learn that new health rules require all cooking to be done in designated/certified kitchens.
So sad, I was looking forward to this meal.:(

I typically unsubscribe to a thread after a week of inactivity. The exception is my Live From threads, which I keep in subscribed status. (Because I refer to them to answer questions, not because I'm full of myself. ...although I kinda am.)
As a member of the institute of cheer, that was a given. :*

In general, if you booked a specific room, then that is the room that you will get.
I booked a "guarantee." So I will not know which room I get until closer to my cruise sail date.
-
LOL - I am the same.
I have found if I choose medium size on tap a talk pics (you get three options - this is the middle one) the pics are ok on CC.
I read that recently & that is what I chose for the tea

Port to visit Yukon?
in Alaska
Posted
Yes, from Skagway you drive through BC to get to Yukon Territory. (The train may also get you there, but we did not research that ourselves.)
