  1. There are the same complaints about the Regal and Royal Princess regarding the lack of a proper promenade deck. Their promenades don't even wrap around - they run forward to back and then stop. To get to the other side you have to go inside and cross over. We like to sit out on the promenade and watch the waves, so when we booked on the Regal we were worried how that promenade would affect our enjoyment of the cruise.

Well we worried needlessly. Those ships do have sitting areas on both sides of the promenade deck, midship and aft. We spent many pleasant hours out there. What surprised us was that those areas were mostly under-used. We never had any trouble finding seating out there.

I am hoping that the Koningsdam will have similar sitting areas out on the promenade deck. I can't really tell from the photos I have seen, but fingers crossed!

  2. It is my option. It's unfortunate that you think it is rude. Some people find the smell of cilantro disgusting or repulsive, I love the smell of it. To each their own.

I agree you are entitled to your opinion. I also understand that not everyone likes all foods. We all have our preferences, our likes and dislikes. What I find rude beyond belief is dismissing an entire cultures cuisine as "dog excrement". You can dislike something and voice that opinion - freedom of speech. How you expressed that opinion speaks volumes.

  3. I can't stand the smell of curries, and think that visually most Indian food looks like what came out if my dog's backside this morning. The combination makes it not something the least bit appealing.

As far as the chef's being from India, in my opinion that's just a cop out.

This is one of the rudest, most insulting things that I have ever read here on CC. I hope I never have to share a cruise ship with you.

  4. Is an 11:19 flight enough time for a flight out of FLL after disembarking the Emerald Princess? It's 1 of 3 ships(Navigator and Constellation) in port. Princess is saying it's to early but it's 4 hrs after arrival which is what Princess website recommends.

Most likely yes, but there is always a chance, albeit a small one, that your disembarkation from the ship will be delayed. It could be that your ship is late returning to port, or there is a delay clearing the ship by immigration/customs.

  5. My head is still spinning from why on earth would anyone wear a bathing suit to the dining room. The person's self-respect must be very low or else they're living in their own world that revolves around themselves.

Princess in general is afraid to confront any passenger or enforce common decency even if it means negatively affecting many other passengers. It's a "the customer is always right even when they're wrong" attitude. :(

Pam, you hit the nail on the head exactly!! The world revolves around them. They are all that matter, and they will do as they please. To heck with the rules. It seems to be the prevailing attitude today. Me me me.

As far as Princess being afraid to enforce the rules, maybe they would tick off a few people, but I would bet there are more of us that would be pleased to see enforcement.

  6. I just don't understand how people pay hundreds of dollars for a cruise and then get all upset about tipping the last people to handle your luggage before it gets put on the ship....

I know it is a hot topic for some, but when I am about to begin my wonderful cruise, giving a few bucks to a porter is just not a big deal to me.

    Happy sailing everyone!!!

I totally agree. After spending thousands on a cruise, what is a few extra bucks for a tip for the porters? We always give a tip. And we have never been asked for a tip, it's always been given freely.

  7. I do not know if you are refering to the eye catching"Ducktale", this obvious new feature, compared to the Vista and Signature class ships is this new “Ducktale” on the Pinnacle class ships, of which Koningsdam is the first.

The Ducktale is a platform at the back of the ship that enlarges the ship at the waterline. The larger waterline creates a more favorable wave pattern, thus reducing the drag (resistance), aiding in a more (cost) efficient propulsion.

Not something that is my ready and available knowledge, but something I found in Dutch maritime technology on the web. :D

Thanks. I was referring to the "ducktail", and now I know what it's called!

  8. No way will you make that flight. We did the earliest walk-off from the Nieuw Amsterdam in December and we left the ship at 7:30. We had no wait to go through customs and immigration, we got a cab right away and we were just checking in at the airport at 8 a.m. So a 7:30 flight would be impossible.

  9. We had a balcony cabin on the Royal Princess and on embarkation day I looked down, and on the balcony below I saw a man smoking and then flicking is ashes over the side onto the top of the lifeboats.

All I could think of was the possibility of being at sea and this idiot starting a fire either in his cabin or the lifeboat. I immediately called the front desk and they said they would look after it. Well, if they did investigate, it didn't do much good as the next day I witness him doing it again. So I called the front desk again and told them this was the second time I was reporting this issue. They assured me they would look after it. I never saw the man smoking on the balcony again.
