In late October the sun is getting lower and the Atlantic is starting to cool. A port side balcony will give you whatever sun there is -- and a starboard side one will likely be cooler.  (What makes you think the port side would be cooler?)

Remember: the sea water temperature is likely to be in high 60's - low 70's - meaning the air you will be passing through will be comparable.

    Thanks. Good info.

  2. We have cruised before, but never transatlantic. We are flying to Rome, and sailing back to Tampa, FL. What are the advantages/disadvantages to port side or starboard side for this type of cruise? We don't really want the sun on our balcony during the afternoon so we thought the port side would be the best. We are concerned however that it may be too cool to use the balcony without the sun in the afternoon.  What are your experiences with this type of cruise? We are sailing Oct 22.

  3. We went to the Blue Lagoon in Oct. Don't expect the private island vibe you get from the cruise ship owed islands. It is smaller and more rustic. The beach had roots and concrete pieces sticking up in some spots. There were no servers. They had a bar, and if I remember correctly, we spent $15.00 for two Buds.

  4. We are scheduled to be in Falmouth Feb 15, 2022 on the Reflection. We have had some confusion as to whether we are actually going to Jamacia or not. Are they allowing cruise ships to port there? If they are allowing ships in are they allowing passengers to go off the ship on their own or do you need to book a Celebrity excursion?

Google is your friend! Or, more reasonably, I am sure there are numerous places available - I doubt you will have any trouble finding one.

Approaching this from another angle though (a glass half full one), there is every chance that no tests will be required by October anyway.

I really hope you are correct about the possiblity of no testing by October. When cruising restarted out of St Maarten (we were on the second cruise out) we had a really hard time in our area finding testing sights that met the requirements. We ended up paying over $500.00 for the two of us to get a PCR test in our area.

  6. We were just in Nassau and took the Blue Lagoon tour. The lagoon itself was nice, but it is very small. The beach is in bad need of grooming with many tree roots and debris exposed through the sand.  There was even pieces of broken concrete at the water line in multiple places. They had a bar area, but the beers were over priced; we didn't check on the other drink prices. They had a BBQ lunch provided. We are use to the mediocre food provided on the islands, and expected the same. The food was far worse than the other island buffets we have been to. The only kudos for this tour goes to the employees of the island, and ferry. Everyone we met was very friendly, helpful, and courteous. The staff on the ferry going over were very informative, and  entertaining. The ride over on the ferry was very nice.

  8. We are scheduled to port in Jamaica in Feb. on the Reflection. I know things change rapidly due to Covid restricitons, but I would like to ask those of you who have been to Jamaica on a cruise since Aug. 2021 a question. While in port were you allowed to tour around by yourself, or did you have to take a ship sponsored tour?

We have cruised twice since June 2021 and find that it really depends of the island you are visiting.

  9. Are there any shops or craft markets close to the port? How about bars/restaurants? Are there any historic structures/picturesque areas within walking distance of the port? Lots of questions I know, but I really appreciate everyone's input.

    Thanks,

    Larry
