1. I, too, am booked on an upcoming cruise in a group through my TA. Just got off the phone with Celebrity who said they were unable to tell me the total amount of OBC I have as the TA would have to tell me. It is fine as it is well documented on my invoice. I will just take a copy with me when I board. The only thing that is not on my invoice is the 10% OBC earned on a shore excursion booked during this current promotion. That is why I was on the phone to ensure that it would be included, which I was assured would be.

  2. On our January 2014 cruise on Century, I was also summoned to the "naughty room" as we had an extension cord packed. Once I explained that it was for my DH's CPAP machine, I was allowed to keep it. However, upon my return I discovered that our wonderful cabin attendant had already provided us with a cord and we never ended up using ours.

  3. I have to agree that the Century is a lovely ship and the crew is amazing! We were aboard her for our first Celebrity cruise and fell in love with the service and all that the line offers. We knew going in that Century was not a new ship but we actually loved the warmth and charm that she exudes. I hope we are not disappointed again to be on a glitzy, dazzling new ship next February. :p

  4. Yes, it is indeed too bad that we can't name TAs as it seems that what I want to do is doable, I just can't find the right agency to do it with. :( I will just keep investigating and hope to stumble across a good TA who will let me book and pay in CDN and actually add a perk or two. It's nice to keep our fellow Canadians in business as well. Good for them and good for me as I then don't have to budget hundreds more at final payment. :)

  5. If you get at Canadian TA to give you anything - please let me know. I remember calling the auto club and saying that if they gave me anything, even send a bottle of wine to the cabin for the booking being transferred - that I would give them my booking - not even a bottle of wine!!!

On the other hand the U.S. agents seem much more aggressive - I have received absolutely fabulous deals from them making the transfer an easy win for them and a great win for us.

As for the U.S.$$ - I always book in American money - they don't want to deal in Cdn.$$.

That's what I have been finding in my preliminary shopping around! Any Canadian TA can't come close to the perks given by the US TAs and the online TAs who do accept CDN bookings actually remove perks that they would give if you booked in US funds.:( Also, with the current exchange rate, booking in US$ adds significantly to the cruise cost especially when booking that far out as the dollar has dropped since we initially booked. I know there are several Canadians cruising with us on the next cruise and I was hoping to have discussions onboard to see who they book with and try a new TA since those kinds of discussions are not allowed on CC.

  6. We took our first Celebrity cruise earlier this year and fell in love with the brand. We booked another cruise onboard in Canadian funds since we are Canadian. Celebrity automatically transferred the booking to the TA we used to book the cruise we were on. Once we decided which cabin we wanted on the cruise we actually wanted to take, (onboard we just booked the farthest out cruise available in order to hold a booking) we informed our online TA who proceeded to contact Celebrity and get things in order. There was a huge kerfuffle and our deposit (made onboard) was refunded and we had to pay the entire deposit in US funds rather than the $100 each Canadian which we paid onboard. It turns out that our TA only deals in US funds and our Canadian deposit was causing problems. Fortunately we were able to keep the 123Go and OBC and our TA gave us an additional small OBC. We are happy with the price we paid and don't want to change anything for this upcoming cruise.

My question is in regards to booking our next cruise onboard. I am thinking of making 2 bookings on the same cruise, 1 in US$ and one in CDN$ and then shopping around to see which TA will give me the best deal. Does anyone know if this can be done? (I'm looking to book a B2B in case this makes a difference which will mean I will have to actually make 4 deposits each.)

  7. I wonder if the OP was on the last sailing before repo. We saw a pathetic level of organization on Legend of the Seas that had all the Diamond levels saying "If this was my first cruise on Royal, we'd never go again."

Sometimes when staff is getting ready to change, things can suffer. I blame the leadership on the ship if this is the case or if the ship seems "tired". The hotel director is key on this. I have sailed on an older ship of another line where the cruise was one of the best ever due to the amazing hotel director. I want to sail another ship where this officer is in charge (he went on vacation and then was reassigned).

I really hope the Millie's problem gets straightened out before our April cruise. We loved the Millie when we first sailed on her in Australia.

I have never had bad service on any ship. We were on Century for the last cruise prior to drydock and service was impeccable there as well so I cannot agree with the above statement.

Sorry the OP had such a bad experience.

  8. The WORST error is on the menu of the Bistro: Entree's. I know that the writer meant there to be an accent on the e, but the "typer" saw an apostrophe.

The Celebrity Today issues on our latest cruise were so bad, we developed a drinking game: Anne of Green Cabels? (gulp) Bermuda excursion in Quebec? (gulp) Bin Band music (gulp).

Oh goodness! This would be a very dangerous game for me. Typos just seem to jump out at me. I refuse to go into a store that has a grammatically incorrect sign out front but I won't refuse to cruise on Celebrity despite their horrible spelling, grammar and error reputation. Does that make me hypocritical? :o

  9. We never had to wait more than 3-4 minutes for a table for 2 no matter what time we showed up for dinner on the Eclipse this year. Excellent service. I miss it so.....:(

Yes, some of the tables are quite close together but we were fortunate enough to get a table by the window most nights (without even asking) that was a little more private. As it was a little out of the way, sometimes our wine glasses would be down to a quarter full before the sommelier topped them up. No worries, we never ran dry and loved "our" little table. On the nights when we were seated very close to another table or two, we were blessed with some lovely couples to chat with and get to know.

  10.
I was on Century in February for 11 nights and had some of the best
service ever in the Cova Cafe:D......so it does happen on the other
class of ships too;).......hope you have a great cruise on Equinox.
She is a beautiful ship.:)...your signature says Eclipse though LOL.....
You're right we're cruising on Eclipse (I'm on some pretty strong meds right now - not thinking straight :().
  11.
Perhaps other people haven't had the same experience, but (in addition to the other WONDERFUL features that have already been mentioned), in my experience, Celebrity puts their best crew members on their S-class ships. This is solely based on a comparison of the Century vs the Equinox sailings in the same year, but the difference was noticeable at every level (except the MDR/restaurant servers, which seem to always be great). Better stateroom attendants, bartenders, musical performers, chefs, cruise director, pool butlers, etc. And just to be clear, by "better" I mean friendlier, more attentive, and more highly skilled (especially in the case of sommeliers, chefs, and performers). In such a service-based industry, this really makes a difference. It is Celebrity, so the service was good even on the Century and we had a great time, but the crew on Equinox was truly stellar.
Oh my! If this is true, then we will be truly amazed! We were on Century in Jan/Feb this year for our first Celbrity cruise and the staff are what convinced us that we had to do another Celbrity cruise (this time on Equinox - yay an S class ship). Absolutely fabulous in every way!
