  1. Thank you to all who answered my question. Now I will have to decide if we will use the package enough to offset the cost..., given the fact that we are allowed to bring two bottles of wine on board, as well as the slight possibility that we can buy in port and not have it sent to the naughty room.

  2. We are new to Princess, but have cruised mostly Celebrity in the past. We are considering purchasing a beverage package, but we are wondering if we can purchase it several days into the cruise and get a pro-rated price? We have done this successfully on other cruises but I've not seen anything about it on the Princess boards. Thanks for your help!

  3. We have used the Metrorail on two occasions to get from MIA to a hotel in FLL. It worked very well for us, and as Arno said, it is very cheap! We never had a problem with crowds and there was plenty of room for our luggage in racks in the train cars. If I remember correctly, we took a bus to get to the rail station. You can easily pick up timetables and route maps at the airport, and there are employees who are very willing to help you navigate the system. We are from a "one stoplight town" in MT and had no trouble getting to our destination.

  4. We were on Eclipse in January and I lost my watch on the pool deck.I went back and retraced my steps to no avail. I was very sad b/c I had just received the watch for Christmas. Somebody suggested that I check with guest relations, and lo and behold they had it! One of the workers on the pool deck found it and turned it in. There is a procedure that the name of the person who turns the lost item in is documented, and I had to sign when I claimed the watch. I say, don't lose hope, as others have said, it just might take a little time before Guest Relations contacts you. I would get the ship's phone number and call guest relations myself when you know the ship will be back in the home port. Good luck!

  5. Six of us rented a cabana on Nellie's last year and it was great. We would definitely do it again, as long as we had 3 couples to absorb the cost. We had the use of floaters, a ladder leading down to the water, directly from our cabana, a "house boy" as we referred to him, who brought us our drinks all day long and a birds eye view of everything. It was so nice to have the shade that the cabana provided and the comfortable seating, plus the security for our belongings and no worries about getting too sandy on the beach. I say, go for the cabana!

  6. Interesting. I've had the opposite experience. Did you participate in your roll call? I just got off a cruise and we all had such a great time together that we've booked another one. Some of the people I knew from previous cruises, but most I met on the roll call.

We really do need a like button on this forum. I agree with you 100%. We have met so many wonderful people on our past cruises, and are very excited to meet new friends next week. I also enjoy reading posts throughout the year when I am planning our next cruise. CC is one of the best parts of my day!!

  7. Not that I recall. But I wasn't looking for it either.

If you are looking for a Fitbit endorsement - I love mine! You will get erroneous readings at sea though as the "bounce" of the ship gets read as movement.

Lol, I never thought about the motion of the ship causing false readings, but now that you mention it, I can understand how that works. I was told recently that it won't measure your activity unless your heart rate is elevated to a certain degree. Thanks for your reply.

  8. I had a similar incident when my oldest was about 3. We were visiting a friend in a Chicago suburb. In the morning, my friend went to work and I was ready to take a shower so I turned on Sesame Street and told my daughter to watch Big Bird and I would take a really quick shower. When I got out, she was gone. I went outside to the backyard but she wasn't there. I went to the front yard, she wasn't there. I went around the house several times thinking we had passed each other. She was no where to be found. Next, I remembered how much she had enjoyed the park the night before, and it was about a block away. I ran to the park but nobody was there. I was really in a panic and wondered how I was going to explain to my husband that I had lost our daughter in Chicago. Then I thought, maybe she was going to the park but turned left instead of right. I ran in that direction. Sure enough, there she was walking down the street a few paces ahead of somebody's maid, who was all dressed in her maid's uniform, black dress and starched white apron. The maid asked if this was my little girl and with a big sigh of relief, I scooped her up and thanked the woman over and over. Needless to say, it was a long time later before I had the courage to tell my husband that story!

  9. For the cost of the tour it is hard to beat but I would not use him again. I asked him how many in the group and was told 10 to 12 max. so great we booked with him I did not want a big group to slow us down plus we wanted to spend the afternoon at the beach. Well 10-12 per van he had 3 vans in the group so 36 people?:eek:Not what I wanted, he told us to meet at 8:30 he told others 9:00 and others 9:30 so we sat there a hour waiting on the rest of the group of 36. First stop we got off the van all was fine the stop was for 30 minutes we come back to the van and it was gone. We were told he had to run back to town for two more people we sat again and waited 45 more minutes.:mad::mad::mad:

We had limited time so I was more than a little upset with him.

The tour was good the price is great but my time is worth so much more.

Thank you for your perspective! We will be there in January and your experience is exactly what I want to avoid, especially the deception of the # of px on the tour. 24 people that you didn't anticipate is a large # of extras!

  10. Ok… original plan was renting the car in FLL for a week, drive to Miami, park at the port, drive back after cruise. Price would be $ 248 for week rental + $ 120 park in the port = $ 368.

All this changed when we got to the Dollar counter at FLL. The nice guy said there is no reason to keep the car for a week if we can just rent for one day before the cruise and for one day after cruise. My reason for the original plan was that we don’t have to deal with transfers, waiting for the shuttle buses. I was willing to pay extra for convenience while traveling with two kids (6 & 13) and one suites case and 3 carry ones. Well… my husband wanted to change this plan and go with what counter guy at Dollar suggested. So here what we did.

    Before cruise FLL to MIA

Picked up at car at FLL for a day $ 61. Drove to Miami (about 40 min with no traffic) then another 45 min to Shark Valley (Everglades) for tram tours. Unfortunately, tour was in the late afternoon and we only saw 1 alligator. Seems they come out of the water during winter months because water colder and air warmer. Back to the MIA area to Marriot Residence Inn. Very nice. We had 2 bedroom suite. Very comfy and great breakfast. Wish we stayed longer. We also made a reservation for the car after cruise while in the hotel (so week in advance). Next morning dropped off car in MIA airport and picked up shuttle to the cruise port. No wait at all. Shuttle only about 10 min. At cruise port around 10 am

After cruise (flew home the same day) MIA to FLL

Shuttle picked us up (waited around 15 min). Picked up the car around 10am. Cost $ 51 for a day. Drove to FLL about 30 min right to Everglades again. This time to Everglades Holiday park for airboat tour. This went better as we saw 3 alligators swimming in the water. A little show after the boat ride. About 2.5 hours here. Then drove another 30 min FLL airport. Dropped the car. Plane left without delay at 5.30 to EWR.

    So original plan $ 368

    Actually rental $ 112

No problem with Dollar shuttle busses, waiting time.

I appreciate your in depth reply about your experience. We are traveling in Jan. and I don't want to rent a car. It seems like there is very good public transportation with the trains, trolley, buses, etc. I am now trying to figure out if we can get to Shark valley w/o too much trouble on public transportation or is it necessary to rent a car for the day? Also, my big question is about the alligators. You mentioned that you only saw one b/c they come out of the water in the winter months. If we go in the morning, are we more or less likely to see them? We are thinking of bicycling on the 15 mile trail and really want to see wild life unique to Florida. Any more insight? Thanks!!

  11. Thank you so much for sharing your dad's unfortunate saga of his medical emergency and all that is happening since then. My prayers are with all of you for strength, well being and a complete recovery for your dad. No body ever thinks they will be in your situation, but obviously, it happens more often than we think. Thank you for a well written account of your experience, blessings to you (and I hope you get to shop for a few new outfits!) and please keep us posted on the final outcome!
