    Once per cruise Scenic includes a “Scenic Enrich” experience which is a private function just for Scenic guests. It is an art, music or cultural experience so could be a private classical concert or vocal performance but in our case it was an exclusive viewing of the Dutch Masters art exhibition in the historically significant Amsterdam gas works. Art was projected onto all room surfaces so I could not go with my vestibular issues. Here’s what my husband had to say: Scenic provided our cruise with exclusive access to the Fabrique des Lumieres show in Amsterdam. Fascinating display though at times kinda disorienting

    Well it has come to an end. In about 10 hours we will depart the Scenic Jade for the final time. Here are departure instructions.

    We are a bit wet and cold but the gardens were spectacular! It is a very windy, rainy day below 10 C or about 47 degrees F.

    I get to get off the boat today! Woohoo! It is wet, windy and cold but hopefully the rain will stop by the time we get to Keukenhof Gardens. It’s 7.9 C or 46.2 F at the moment. Brrr

    I believe it is only 1 bag of laundry once per voyage unless you are in the top suite.

    Even reading our information sent by email a month before departure, Scenic pushes the suites and ties and cocktail outfits. Seasons may have some effect but on this cruise I would say nobody went by Scenic’s dress guidelines for dinner attire..

    Regarding dress code. During the day it is casual. At dinners most change but not all. During the 3 more formal dinners we had (Portobellos, Table La Rive, and the dinner cooked by Chefs Lynn and Laura) only noticed a few blazers on men, one tie. Most men wore dress shirts or short sleeve button up shirts. Women wore everything from pants and sweater/blouse to yoga pants and sweater. Dresses would not be out of place. I only saw one sequin top.

    In this case, we were tied up at the dock in low tide. here is inside a lock

    We were given poppies on our Seine cruise but not this one. In fact, when I knew we were going to France I contacted the Royal Canadian Legion and got a number of small fabric flags and brought poppies from home. We placed them at various cemeteries in Normandy.

    This difference goes to Scenic: toilet paper, unless HAL has upped their ply level from 1. Scenic uses quilted toiled paper that is soft and is 2-3 ply.

    So yesterday was a very important day for DH and I. I had 3 uncles in WWII and they were all in this area. One was hurt just outside of Arnhem, just before reaching “The Bridge Too Far”. DH went to the Airborne Museum, the bridge and the commonwealth cemetery. We actually docked in Nijmegen which is between the airborne museum and Arnhem . Here’s what he said about each: Today we visited the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek located within the former Hotel Hartenstein which was the British headquarters for Operation Market Garden, the unsuccessful attempt to take the bridges around Arnhem in hopes of establishing a quicker route to Berlin. We then visited the Commonwealth cemetery in Osterbeeken.So sombre, peaceful. Blessed are they for their sacrifice. May they rest in peace. This is the Bridge in Arnhem that was one of the primary objectives in Operation Market Garden.

    He very much enjoyed Ghent but his knees…not so much! It was a 2.5 hour circuit walk with 1 hour to shop. The cobblestones made it a rough go but he loved seeing it. He didn’t see anything of Arnhem. We docked in Nijmegen which is not far. His goal was the Airborne Museum as I had 3 uncles in WWII and one was wounded just outside the “Bridge too Far”.

    Oh he did good…maybe too good 😂 Nah it’s chocolate so there’s never enough! I have a 3 week limit to eat it for optimal taste so I have friends at home willing to help!

    …and sometimes you are close to the water on a riverboat but the view is terrible.

    Yesterday DH took the tour to Ghent. It was a 2.5 hour walking tour and people complained it was too long and/or tough with the cobblestones. Some wanted more time for shopping while others wanted none. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just proves that you just can’t please everyone. He was able to do both the walking tour around town and tour St. Basil’s cathedral.

    We just finished a most delicious 6-7 course dinner put on by chefs Lynn and Laura and the whole culinary team. Every morsel of every selection was melt in your mouth delicious. they surprised us by telling us every passenger will get a copy of their cookbook and we are to fill out this paper to have each one dedicated and personalized

    The cruise director told us the first night that the water bottles were ours to take home.

    Most people spent the afternoon upstairs on the sun deck but I wasn’t going to tackle the stairs. But on a riverboat you are never that far from the water whether it be in the dining room or your cabin.

    Finishing up with the laundry…we left the bag on our bed this morning and it was folded and waiting for me after lunch.

    Oh thanks for telling me that. It really was the highlight for me. We just learned tonight that the boat won’t be able to make it to Hoorn on Monday due to bad weather making conditions on a large lake unsafe. It can still change but right now the plan is to bus the tours to Hoorn but dock in Amsterdam. Tuesday is the Gardens!

    I didn’t get off the boat which turned out to be a good thing because everyone said it was a tough walk due to construction and cobblestones. My DH went to Ghent which was enough walking for his knees so he didn’t venture into Antwerp after returning. Unfortunately Brugge is not on our itinerary. Tomorrow we will be in Nijmegen in place of Arnhem which is under construction.

    The bottles are yours to keep. Not the same for the walking poles, robes and umbrella.
