  1. @Maureen

I can't figure it out either....I was stuck on that periscope.com, then I tried periscope.tv but there is no 3 person icon. Only download links to the apple app store and google play - which, of course cannot be downloaded to a pc. I also tried the andy one....won't work. I even tried downloading a different program (like andy) but it kicked off everytime I tried to go it so I just deleted it.

I cannot download it to my Blackberry or an old Galaxy. Now trying to download to a newer Galaxy - but just hangs - it's been trying to download for 30 minutes now. Super frustrating!

So sad I'm missing out....I did try that link someone posted but it had expired. That was the closest I actually came to something working.

On another note, I'm loving the review though and great sense of humor! Just wish I could get it working for me.

  2. I agree - when we looked at it, it was $416 cdn - and that's Nellie's! Not even the better buffet like Barefoot. And Nellie's is always soooo crowded.

    Not worth it to us.

Yeah - I'd probably pay it for Barefoot - but not Nellies. When our dollar was closer I'd pay 325 but at 35 cents on the dollar it is just too much. Either way - it's not available anyway. It was posted yesterday morning (I was checking daily) and it's not only the button stating on board only, it's right in the title.

Beach Cabana - Over The Water At Nellie's Beach (Onboard Only)

    LABADEE, HAITI

The upscale sea- view cabanas nestled on the hillside of Nellie's beach with private water…

  3. Well....over the water just showed up today - but automatically "Book On Board". The beach and hillside are MIA. And it's only 422 CAD! LOL Really I don't believe it is worth it. I would pay 250, but there's no way I'm paying over 400 for a hut with water, fruit and floaties. Loved the OTW on barefoot the last time I was in Labadee but no chance I'll pay over 400. Just sayin'

  4. While pulling up to the ship and telling your companion "oh by the way, we were going on that right now" sounds like a really nice thing to do, I don't think it's very practical at Port Everglades. As said, they aren't going to let you drive in just to look around. The best bet you have is to put a note inside your passport for the guard that says something like "trying to surprise person in passenger seat with cruise, please help keep the surprise" or something. Hand them your passport first and then kind of fumble around looking for the other one to give the guard a chance to read the note. Not saying it will work, but short of telling them at the hotel that morning or something, that is about the only way.

Good plan! Will do. She will know we are going on a cruise, however, she'll think we are doing a cheapo 4 day. This will be her first cruise. We will be arriving by cab. I was planning on doing up a note for the driver (just in case I don't have a chance to talk privately). I'll also do one up for the kiosk guy. I like the idea of the "fumble" to give him time to read the note in the first passport. Thanks for the tip!

Really and truly, she's a bit clueless so I could say "Allure Pier 18" and she would have no idea - she'd think it's the name of the pier. She knows I travel a lot so just follows my lead and leaves everything up to me. And if you are wondering how I will get her to pack enough....remember CLUELESS. I'll just tell her she needs to pack more than normal as you change more frequently on a cruise - I'll give her a list and she will pack it no questions asked. She will just think it's the norm.

If you are wondering why all the trouble if she already will know it's a cruise - I know she is dying to go on the Oasis as her neighbor was going on and on and on about it and in turn went on and on and on about how cool the ship sounded to me. "Yes, Deb, I know there's a zipline....yes I know about the surfing....and the rock wall and the Central Park and the Board Walk and yes I know about the ice shows." But she knows it's not an option as she's only given me a 5 day window of time over her birthday. But I've arranged it through her husband and work so it's all good. Just the look on her face when she realizes were going on (basically) her dream ship will be priceless.

  5. When entering the port, does the guy in the kiosk ask for your papers? I'd like to surprise a friend with a cruise and don't want the dude to blow it by saying "Oh, you're going on the Allure of the Seas"...etc.

Ideally, I'd just like to say we are going to check out the ships and then take our luggage when we pull up.

  6. Over the water at Nellie's is available to book on my cruise planner if I want to pay $416 CDN for it - that's not happening!

HOLY CRAP! OK, that's a little ridiculous. So they have popped back up on your planner? When do you cruise?

  7. I love surprises! Well, I should say - like to be the "surpriser".....Not the surprisee.

I'm such a geek....I've even sent a request through to PTZTV.com with our cabin number so when they do the live sailaway out of Port Everglades they can zoom in on us while on our balcony so her parents can see us. Oh yeah....I'm that bad.lol

And yeah....I think a picture would be good. They will be sooooo excited!!!!

  8. Thought I'd offer :)

How old are your kids? I think Party Packagers has letters ( for making custom names)...what about getting one with Bon Voyage, or "We are going on a cruise" or something. I know you can get balloons in the shape of letters but not sure if they are readily available up here. You could 5 to spell cruise (if they are old enough to spell it out)

How exciting! I'm surprising a friend with a cruise on the Allure at the end of January....she has no idea. She's never been on a cruise and she knows people that have been on the Oasis so she thinks it's the ultimate and is dying to go on it. I'm going to make her believe we are going on a short 5 day'er on a "nothing" ship. I'm going to surprise her at the pier. Just pull up and say, Oh, look! There's the sister ship to the Oasis...crap, did I forget to tell you, that's the ship we are going on"

  9. Yes I checked everyday and On July 1 it showed up my cruise is sept 27.

Thanks Mark! I'll just keep checking then!

Very odd that it was online as "inquire on board" and then gone. Maybe they are realizing it is better to have it booked ahead of time and have decided to go back the the old way of doing it. Maybe too many people flooding the excursion desk with requests?

  10. I believe there is a very real RCI presence here. They may not post, but you can bet they lurk. It's in their best interest to.

Let's face it folks, this is a business. Bottom line is everything. They are consistently working on attracting new customers while maintaining existing. I am quite certain there will always be cut backs to better their bottom line. Some we see, others we don't. With rising costs, it has to be done. Competition these days in the cruise industry is fierce. With many mainstream lines going towards and "all-inclusive" type style with their offers of free beverage packages, gratuities...etc. they are attracting more and more first time cruisers, as well as snagging brand loyal customers from other lines...which is a brilliant move IMO.

Once upon a time, the target market was the upper crust....now it's everyone. The new breed of cruisers tend to not spend what the original did....let's face it, there are posts and posts and posts on tips and tricks to save money. Sailing at capacity these days brings in far less on board spending than it did years ago. Profits just aren't what they used to be. Enter...cutbacks. ALL the mainstream cruiselines are cutting back where they can. RCI is not the only one.
