  1. Agree with beshears above. A little goes a long way. It isn't expected, but on our recent cruise, we found bar staff to be in short supply. We were in Wheelhouse every night and made good friends with one of the bar servers. We didn't tip every round but we would give an extra $5 or $10 every third day or so. We were on an 11 day cruise. This was the only "extra" tips we gave, but he earned it with his attentive service. Our drinks were never empty....even during the busiest times in Wheelhouse.
  2. I'm just going to leave this right here. You have no idea what you are talking about as it relates to my satisfaction or happiness with NCL. I've responded to the OP for their benefit. You are free to believe whatever you want about me. Thank you!
  3. Haha. Must have been a pretty poor sushi restaurant if it didn't have any desserts. Try green tea ice cream or mochi. How much did you tip?
  4. Maybe many years ago you might have found a afternoon or late night happy hour or buckets of beer on special. Right now, they are pushing everyone to the packages/bundles. There were no happy hours or buckets offered on our recent Emerald cruise. I think beers on board were $7 plus 18%.
  5. Try a pub crawl. You might find that you like it. 👍👍
  6. When we were on Gem, the pool bars, casino bar and OSheehans opened in AM. Spinnaker was opened in the early afternoon. Then, towards evening, 4pm or 5, the remaining bars opened Magnums, whisky bar, Mojito bar up by Moderno, Sake bar, etc.
  7. You won't find anything like Alchemy in the public bars on Breakaway ...maybe in Haven. Alchemy had infused Vodkas and specialty crafted cocktails. Their bartenders are amazing.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. We have loyalty to no cruise line post pandemic.
  9. Yep, that is where they lost me. I can understand to a degree the fare supplement of 200%, but when they try to ascribe an additional supplement based on an unknown (spending habits), it makes no sense. This, too, will probably pass. Times are good for the lines right now. High passenger demand, high pricing. It won't always be that way.
  10. My thoughts are that the service provided on NCL is not worth $20 per passenger per day. For a family of 4, it is $80 per day, $560 per week. Crazy!! I have no idea how NCL divides that up and frankly couldn't care less. We just sailed Princess and were charged and gladly paid $16 per person per day. That included twice daily attentive stateroom service. We thought that was a more fair price than NCL. I have no idea how it gets divided up amongst crew, if at all. Notwithstanding, anyone that doesn't believe the services charges on NCL are fair or warranted is free to proceed to guest services, as we have done, and adjust them to the level that more closely matches the service received. We knocked ours down to $16.50 per person per day by visiting guest services. We weren't rude or demanding and the guest services rep was more than glad to adjust them. Oh, yes, they are also free to refrain from cruising NCL....as if that option wasn't blatantly obvious. 😭😭
  11. Definitely not what I think of when I think of diner food. However, I appreciate the opportunity to have an additional "included" option at a time when we are seeing cutbacks and reductions on all cruise lines
  12. This is why I come on here. Today, I am getting a lesson in soft serve, something I know nothing about. Thanks everyone!!
  13. Breakaway. What calcruiser64 said above. Waterfront is cool. Stateroom design is more functional.
  14. Oh, I'll do you one better. I rarely cruise solo. However, this is poor policy. We won't consider Celebrity, period....as a couple, as a family, with a group of friends. When we see reprehensible greed, we run the other way.
  15. ....how to tell someone their business is not wanted without telling them there business is not wanted. Foolish, greedy decision on the part of Celebrity. The logic for a 200% surcharge is understandable. However, when they profess to know the spending habits of each customer by projecting a fictional amount of "foregone" on board revenue, they lose me. They must think every solo traveller spends zero onboard, which is silly. It is unheard of in the industry. Fortunately, other cruise lines have found a way to meet their revenue projections without suffocating solo passengers with unethical, unreasonable, surcharges. This is getting a lot of negative attention on social media. Quite rightly so.
  16. It's an industry wide issue currently. Paying more getting less.
  17. Uhh, probably your local Applebee's TGI Fridays or the freezer section of your favorite grocer. Life will go on without mozz sticks for your vacation. It will all be ok.
  18. You can order anything on the menu. However, some items contain what NCL calls a dining package upcharge. A 20% service charge is also on top of the surcharge, for your and my convenience. These upcharges seemingly change with the seasons. It might be shrimp one year, then crab cake the next, then a porterhouse, then a filet, a lobster tail....you get the idea. Rarely is the upcharge worth it's price. You'll likely find better quality at your local Mortons and Ruth's Chris.
  19. As a general rule, NCL holds prices fairly high early out and then tends to offer last minute discounts closer to sailing after final payment if inventory remains. If you want to sail NCL and you have to book early, then you'll likely have to pony up early in and maybe try to refare if prices decline. Good luck.
  20. Better go soon if you want to go on NCL. https://businessnorway.com/articles/green-cruising-norway-world-heritage-fjords-becoming-emission-free
  21. It's right next door to Royal's CocoCay where a pier was added 5 years ago. 🤷
  22. Daily tip amount was not adjusted by Carnival for the reduction in stateroom service. The industry needs to revisit the entire tipping system. It is out of control. A family of four is paying close to $450 a week in service charges/gratuities. On some cruise lines, it exceeds $500. It is just off the hook, especially in light of the decline in service being experienced. The whole system is beyond broken and needs rejiggered.
  23. I will add my vote for this, too. Yes, it is a bit further out and traffic was bad, but if you are on an NCL tour, no worries. We sailed up the Rio Dulce to the large Lake Izabal and then went to tour the castle. Beautiful countryside. I recommend that you take sunscreen on this tour as it can be very very sunny and hot.
