  1. Does anyone know what floor or floors people will be embarking onto Vista? I assumed it would be floor 3 since that is the Lobby/ Guest Services/ Atrium but there doesnt seem to be a promenade on that floor. I also have not been on Breeze so I cant even take a guess from what floor or floors that ship uses.

  2. In the summer of 2014 (just months after Russia annexed the Crimea) Vantage was the only cruiseline visiting the Black Sea countries. Although our stop at Yalta (in the Crimea) was cancelled, no other port was. Out of the 11 nights voyage, our ship spent 3 nights docked at Odessa, Ukraine and another night in Sochi, Russia. Nobody on our cruise ever felt the least bit threatened and the Ukrainians were absolutely thrilled to see us.

I guess my message is, sometimes 'danger' depends on where the actual unrest is happening. In my opinion, cruise lines should continue to stop at Ephesus (a truly magical place) without worrying about what is going on in Istanbul.

I dont think the cruise lines are just worried about Istanbul. I think they are also worried about Izmir and that's why the stop there for many lines has been cancelled.

  3. I'm still on the fence as to if it's a go or not for us to get Cheers even with us now having 4 at-sea days! (Booked on 13-night 1st sailing)

Cost would be approx. $750 per person if we take it now. Even with the program being as enhanced as it has been recently, just don't think we'd even come close to drinking $100 per day. No way would we come close to the 15 drink limit as well either!

But it's a vacation we're checking off the bucket list, so why not just do it!!!

If you don't think you would come close to the $100 a day, why WOULD you do it? Just because its a vacation makes no sense.....drink like you normally would and just pay for it as you go.

I think it might be tough to drink 10 drinks on a day when you were gone a lot for the day touring. You cant go to sleep that late or drink too much that afternoon/evening on the ship otherwise you would never be able to make it touring the NEXT day, right? Just my thoughts....

  4. OK - so with Izmir dropped we are hearing that because all ports are now EU ALL onboard purchased except the Spa will be subject to 37% VAT. Can anyone confirm or debunk this?

I'd call Carnival and ask if you want to be sure 100%.

  5. So we now know that HAL (and their parent Carnival) believe Kusadasi to be a safe destination. But does that mean the same for Izmir? All cruise lines EXCEPT Carnival have already cancelled all visits to Izmir for the rest of the year. The ONLY cruise ship planning to call at Izmir this summer is the Vista which is scheduled to make the sixth stop of its maiden voyage in Izmir on May 6. Vista is also scheduled to make 12 other visits to Izmir before it moves to the U.S. in October.

Regarding Kusadasi: A number of cruise lines have already eliminated Kusadasi from their itineraries, but a half-dozen major lines (HAL, Celebrity, Cunard, Windstar, Princess, and RCCL) still have Kusadasi on their schedules.

I am so confused. Why do we now know that HAL thinks Kusadasi is ok?! They didn't stop there yet, did they?! I can't keep up.

  6. What is your source for this claim? It's ridiculous to make a blanket statement without examining the incident break outs.

A recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally (more guns = less crime).

Nations with strict gun control laws have substantially higher murder rates than those who do not in general. In fact, the 9 European nations with the lowest gun ownership rate have a combined murder rate 3x that of the 9 European nations with the highest gun ownership rate!

A quick google search has multiple sources for his/her numbers. How about this one:

    http://www.thetrace.org/2015/12/gun-violence-stats-2015/

Here is a great article from 2015 about American deaths due to guns compared with deaths due to terrorism:

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/oct/05/viral-image/fact-checking-comparison-gun-deaths-and-terrorism-/

But seriously, lets not make this a gun control law debate....he just cited some numbers.

Everyone should just make their own educated decision if a ship docks in a port they feel uncomfortable leaving...its not the end of the world if you just enjoy the time onboard that day and subsequently enjoy the rest of the cruise.

  7. I just looked at one of the ship trackers online -- looks like Prinsendam is headed away from Istanbul -- anyone know if she actually ported there?

At any rate, her destination is listed as Lesbos.

Yikes...Lesbos is the last place I would have thought they would stop at. Thousands and thousands of refugees are using that island as a way point before traveling on to other points in Europe. Even though it is a similar situation in Atehns, Lesbos is tiny comparitively.

  8. Wow... aren't we all a little testy today! Yes this thread is old but things change patterns happen. We should not be shamed for asking.

No one is testy. I am just sick (as are others) of repeated statements about nothing and questions about the same old thing when this is really just a thread for notifications when the cards are available.

How is anyone shaming you by ASKING to stop posting except for when the the cards are posted?

  9. Well I am not lying I can assure you. We were on the Celebrity Equinox and we took a ship excursion so we could get off the ship early. We visited Oia and a winery. Celebrity used local boats for tendering, it was very rough in the bay and they were still tendering people off the ship when we were in line at the end of our tour to take the cable car back down the hill. The lines were so long for the cable car that we had to wait about 2 hours to get back down the hill to catch a tender. There was one other ship in port that left while we were standing in line. There are 3 ways to get down the hill. Donkey, walk or cable car.If you still don't understand do some research on Santorini and then maybe you will understand.Your post is insulting.

Did I say you were lying? No. I said I did not understand why it took so long. Now, you are stating it was because it was rough in the bay while they were tendering. THAT is the reason it took so long it seems. Its not because of the amount of people that it took hours and hours.

  10. No! That question or some form of it gets asked all of the time. Just keep checking. I wish people would seriously only post to this thread when the cards are available. Especially when they haven't been around for a couple of weeks. You see a notification and think they are back up. There is no set pattern. None.

Dont even bother 'wishing'....I have asked people to stop posting ridiculous comments like, '...is there a trick to getting these cards..." and "wow, I just got my cards in the mail..." as people get notifications for this thread thinking cards are now available but no one cares.

Well, here's my post adding to the waste of posts that do NOT announce the new cards being available yet just contain useless babble and 'wishes'.

  11. Can someone explain this more? What is the ships current itinerary that is changing? The quote obviously makes it sound that whatever it was, does not include Turkey anymore.

I found the Prisendam roll call for this HAL cruise and asked for some more specific information. Hopefully, I will get an answer from someone in the roll call (although its a 55 day cruise and someone might not check it again for a long time). If I dio I will post here.

  12. We tendered at both Santorini & Mykonos on Celebrity Reflection, there was no delays getting ashore or back on board at either port and the ship had 3600 passengers aboard, only 300-400 less than Vista.

This makes sense to me as no cruise line would want to spend hours upon hours just getting people off a ship then spend hours upon hours getting them back. I didnt understand the previous poster commenting about it taking hours to get people tendered to Santorini and the same situation back.

  13. A passenger on board ms Prinsendam (in Greece at the moment) just posted this on facebook.

Quote: Moments ago we received word the US State Department recommends travelers to avoid Istanbul, Turkey and some other cities in Turkey so our ship will be changing its itinerary. Disappointing but prefer to be safe. unquote.

where are they going instead? Do you know? Thanks for the info.

  14. Izmir is not in SE Turkey. They are not pulling US military or government personnel. Izmir is an unaccompanied assignment for US Air Force personnel. It is an accompanied assignment for US Army Nato Land Command.

They ARE pulling US military and government out of Izmir. READ the article posted above. Its been posted again and again. Its a question of when and not if.

EDIT to add: Here's the article from CNN, 2nd paragraph. http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/29/politics/pentagon-orders-military-families-to-leave-southern-turkey/index.html?sr=twCNN032916pentagon-orders-military-families-to-leave-southern-turkey0424PMStoryLink&linkId=22836699
