  1. What app is that jeffdal ?

    I think its tapatalk.

Does anyone know if I buy $500 in carnival cards, apply them to my account and then dont spend $500, do they mail me a check after I disembark/give me cash when I go to the front desk before the cruise ends OR do they apply the leftover money automatically back to my carnival gift card?

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that it applied back to the gift cards (how you purchased the OBC) but I am not sure where I read that. This is my only hesitation in buying multiple carnival gift cards. I am not going on another carnival cruise after this May cruise for a while.

  2. This is all true but the PKK is fighting Turkey and ISIS and not tourists. I supposed a tourist could get caugt up in the middle but to date I don't believe its happened. At least statistically, you're far worse getting caught in the middle of Chicago crossfire than Izmir.

Except scoobyfish asked for proof via news articles in response to YOUR post about bombings in Izmir. I merely responded with articles showing there have been bombings in Izmir. One of the bombings involved civilians.

I am going in 3 months to Izmir via a cruise and these bombings are not stopping me.

  3. I had not heard about a bombing in Izmir. Can you please supply your source for this information. Thank you.

Here is one article from July 2015: http://www.trtworld.com/turkey/bomb-explodes-front-ak-party-office-turkeys-izmir-5021 The terrorist group, PKK bombed 2 locations (one was a bus full of civilians) in western Izmir.

The same terrorist group, the PKK, planned a bombing in Izmir in November 2015 but were stopped before anything happened: http://www.dailysabah.com/nation/2015/11/10/3-pkk-terrorists-nabbed-before-alleged-bombed-attack-in-izmir

A simple google search found these articles.

  4. I want to book the Farenheit for husband's birthday but couldn't' see where to do this. I emailed Carnival and they said I could do it through "my cruise manager".

I looked and looked and can't see any options - any ideas?

why not call them back and have your cruise manager open and ask specifically, "where"?

  5. Interesting they want 4. I looked into them for my arrival day, and I am solo. They were fine with one person - it would have been more for me as it's the same price as for up to 4, but they had no issues with me being solo. (I have ended up going with a company that fits me better - and my first day I will just be on my own... much happier.)

What company did u choose? I am going solo in May on a cruise from Barcelona to Athens and have a long time between arrival in airport at Barcelona to cruise embarkation. Debating what to do.

  6. Weird question but does anyone know (or was it mentioned and I missed it) of the remaining passengers onboard are getting free wifi? Pauly is spending a good amount of time on here. I hope he doesnt have to pay for it.

Along those same lines, are the remaining passengers getting free drinks? Thats a great way to make many people happy.

  7. the TeleBermuda website states

Search for the WiFiZone by TBi network

Open a web browser to connect to sign-up page

    24 hrs- $9.99

    72 hrs- $14.99

    Basic Monthly- $29.99

Pay by credit card or prepaid coupons available at select locations.

So was wondering why people say they are buying a wifi pass in the dockyard. Can I not just follow the above directions and buy wifi with my credit card?

Because doing that while I was there 3 weeks ago wasnt working. Thus you had to go to the store and pay in cash.

  8. I used TeleBermuda 3 weeks ago. I bought it at the Dockyard. It was 14.99 for 3 days. You need to pay in cash for it in the little white house/store diagonally across from the yogurt store/shop (terrible and expensive yogurt and even worse aka slow free wifi (with purchase) connection that needed a password for every 30 minutes time ..also no where to plug in unless you asked the store owner to plug in next to the register) and next store to the restaurant, Bonefish Bar and Grill.

With this wifi 3 day plan, you can only use one device (thats what they told me but I didnt test that as I only used it on a laptop). Several people can log in at different times but its one device only. Essentially you are buying a card with a password on it it the store. I would recommend the salesperson put in the password for you and connect while in the store. My password was wonky but eventually worked but I needed help (requiring me to go all the way back to the store).

From the ship, I found that on deck 5 outside on the loungers I was able to get a signal if I was facing the Dockyard. Depending on which way the ship is pointed, I would test several of the loungers to see if the front or back of the ship works best. I found the back worked best (we were pointed away from the Breakaway). It always took a while to get the wifi to catch on if on the ship but it eventually worked. It dropped occasionally but it worked (no outlets obviously outside on the loungers). I even tried to sit right inside in the chairs in the lounge on the 5th floor (where they do the art auction) but the wifi wasnt strong enough to go inside. Using my laptop right outside the store where you buy the card seems logical but its too sunny to see a laptop screen and also way too hot.

If you need a lot of work done while on your Bermuda vacation requiring wifi, be prepared to be frustrated. I was.

  9. This is my last comment on the hot water issue. I did not mention it to the steward. I did not even give it a second thought and I never mentioned I didnt tell someone for the fear of inconveniencing someone. I simply just took the shower with cold water and went on with my day. I have given this issue more time here on these boards then I ever could have imagined. It didnt even give it a second thought about it (until everyone on the boards are going on and on and on about it).

I guess I am more of a 'go with the flow kind of person' and dont let little things bother me. I have much larger concerns. I go on vacation to try and forget about them.

Goldesq: did you let your room steward know about the lack of hot water?

If you had cold water everyday, I would think that they would want to know about it so they could fix the problem. I don't think you would have been inconveniencing anyone...they have guys onboard just to repair situations like that. Perhaps the people next to you also had the same problem? The ship personnel wouldn't know if you didn't say something to someone. You may as well have hot water, it's part of your cruise fare. Just sayin'.....

  10. How can Celebrity fix the problem if you don't say something about it. I would have been down to Guest Relations immediately. Imagine the poor guy to come in after your cruise to no hot water. What did you do, go to the guy to shower? Would you complain if they ran out of food or your stateroom attendant didn't make up your room. Those aren't complaints in my opinion. Those are issues that the ship should want to correct.

I showered in my room in cold water. Im not you and I did not go down to guest relations immediately. I didnt care enough and no, the sink also did not have hot water. I wont lose sleep over showering in cold water or not reporting it. Life has larger problems.

Food is hardly the same as hot water.

As for making up my room, I honestly keep a very tidy room (especially because those balcony rooms are small) and if it wasnt made up in one week, I woulnt care. I just need new shampoo/ conditioner since I didnt bring any this time. Our steward was excellent by the way. I think if the steward didnt make up the rooms, he would lose his job so he is going to do it. Its hardly the same comparison.

  11. Considering taking our first Celebrity cruise on the Summit. My husband wears a dress shirt and tie, no jacket, on formal night as do most of the men cruising out of Galveston, a 40 minute drive for us. I'm going to have a hard enough time convincing him to fly to San Juan and if he has to bring a jacket it might be a deal breaker. Is there any chance we will be turned away from the dining room?

No chance he will be turned away. Wearing a tie will help.

  12. What stateroom were you in when you never had hot water for your shower, not one single time? What did you do about it? What was the ship's resolution? What was your compensation?

I've never heard of such a thing.

Ive heard of such a thing because many complained of the same. I also had this issue on a ship several cruises ago (I think it was Princess).

I was in 9023. I didnt do anything because it bothered me but not enough to complain as I knew there wasnt much they could do. I was more concerned with the lack of very a/c in my room. I also never make complaints looking for compensation. To be honest, I hate when people jump to wanting that resolution so quickly. I find it happens so much lately with people who cruise.

  13. Yes, the Summit leaves it's berth in Port Liberty and heads north for a photo op. It "holds" in the harbor anchorage until the Breakway approaches and then Summit spins and follows Breakway out of the harbour. I've sailed Summit three times to Bermuda and have never done this. As I stated earlier, this is the fourth week in a row they have headed to the statute for photos. The "chatter" from the harbour master and the various ships is interesting to listen to. I hope the statue photo ops continue.

How are you able to listen to the chatter by the harbour master? Can I do this without a marine radio?

  14. No A/C or hot water, what cabin? I hope it's not up on Deck 11.

The Wife & I are doing the Summit again in May 2016.

    CaptDave

I never said there wasnt a/c but rather, the a/c was not strong enough. It was a bit warm in my room and my father who traveled with me agreed. I also never had hot water for my shower. Not one single time.

Other than that, the service was very good on the ship (exception is the slow service in MDR). Great Captain. Good CD. Slightly better than average food. Very good comedian (Steve C.). Overall, it was a pleasant cruise...not the best I have had but certainly far from the worst. I can now say with multiple cruiselines being cruised, my fav is Princess.

  15. I just got off Summit today and the 3 main shows were pretty bad. I actually thought the 2 main women singers and 1-2 of the male singers were good but the shows themselves were awful. There was no scenery/backdrops and the songs themselves were not cohesive/matched well to the show itself. It really felt like amateur hour in terms of the shows. I think if the choreography, song choice and overall theme were better put together, they might have something. They have a lot to work on though. (That robot / scifi 'scene' in the last main show was a disaster. What were they thinking)? I would dump all three shows if I were them and start over.

I did like the comedian. The magician was just ok. The quartet was pretty bad. The singers interspersed though out the ship were flat out bad. Every other line has had better entertainment around the ship and didnt disappear after 45 minutes to another venue.

  16. Just back today from Celebrity Summit Bermuda cruise. The dress was all over the map on both casual and formal nights. I asked the MDR front desk/reservationist about the ultra casual dress I was seeing since it did not conform to the signs posted. Saara indicated that they (dont know if it is sip or Celebrity wide) was trying out a more relaxed dress code but it wasnt posted yet because too many people were complaining about not being able to wear jeans in the dining room. I saw t-shirts and shorts in the dining room by adults (not many but enough) as well many nights. Percentage-wise, I would say about 5-10% were wearing shorts or jeans at dinner. It was so odd as I expected that on NCL (as I had experienced it 6 months ago on Breakaway) but not on Celebrity (my first time on that line).

  17. Hmmmm. The official schedule from the Bermuda (http://www.marineandports.bm/Documents/Shipping_schedules/2015_Cruise_Ship_Schedule.pdf) shows it scheduled to dock at 8:00am. I watched as the lines were thrown at about 11:15am local time in Bermuda.

Of course, the intent of my post was being impressed at how they made up almost all of the lost time in transit. IMHO, it shows that they valued their passengers' time by getting them there as close to the original planned arrival as possible to minimize any impact on shore excursions (Celebrity-provided or otherwise). That was done at a higher fuel cost due to the increased speed.

And since I'm gonna be on the ship in 4.5 weeks, taking my first cruise, all of that kinda makes me feel good. :D

    --bruce T.

Nope...we arrived at 830 am and not 1115 am. I know 2 nights ago we moved our clocks forward one hour but that still doesnt account for the difference in time you are talking about.

Have a good trip next month!

  18. Wow. So many rumors fly around about something so simple.

There was a problem with the tight propulsion. It was fixed. We left Bayonne at 4 am. We were not given, nor should we be given, any OBC or free drinks. We arrived on time at the Dockyard at 830 am. Nothing was missed, changed or excluded from our trip because of the delay. Honestly, it shouldnt have affected anyone's trip whatsoever since we arrived on time.

As for the trip itself......service (speed) is very slow at dinner (and takes close to 2 hours to finish a meal if seated at 615pm when we go). There is no hot water in our stateroom. The a/c doesnt get too cold. The internet is CRAZY slow. The service, that is, professionalism is excellent. The ship is showing its age but I dont mind it much at all. Some of the rust though really should be taken care of. Its hot and humid in Bermuda. The food is excellent on the ship.

  19. We were on that cruise and retuned this morning

    I can use your help

The cruise activity director name is Estefano. He was supposed to give us his card for his Facebook account. But we didn't see him this morning. When you see him can you ask him his music website or Facebook page

We never got his last name to check on Facebook

Tell him room 8141 group from previous cruise

    Thanks for your help
