I did some digging and found a Maria Horton Miller with Alaska Taxi and Tours on a website link -- there is even a picture of her -- does the name sound about right?  If you want the link I can send it to you directly, just let me know.

Thank you for digging on my behalf but as noted in my original post the Maria from Alaska Taxi and Tours is not the Maria I'm looking for and that Maria cannot do the tour I would like as I need mornings and she does only afternoons.

Thanks for trying, I really appreciate it.

  2. Thanks to both of you for these suggestions.  Unfortunately Italy52 we paid cash.  I have sent an email to the address you provided Glaciers, hopefully they can help.

If there is anyone who knows of a good driver to help us out even though I would like to reconnect with the driver we had before I know it's a longshot so would be happy with another good driver.  Thank you.

  3. Hi everyone

I was in Alaska last year in May and we were taken from the pier to Mendenhall Glacier by a lovely middle aged (looked really young) woman, in a grey van.  She was absolutely lovely.  She gave my sister in law her business card and I thought I took a picture of it but unfortunately did not and my sister in law cannot locate her business card.  We thought maybe her name was Maria but the only Maria I have been able to locate is from Alaska Taxi and Tours and that Maria is not her and that Maria cannot help me for what I am looking at doing.  Can anyone help me if you were taken to Mendenhall is a grey van (larger van) or know someone who would be willing to take 4 people three different locations in Juneau area.  All three are on the same highway (Mendenhall, Glacier Garden DIPAC Hatchery.  Thanks

In Skagway we did a 45 minute free city walk with a park ranger. Then we rented a car and drove to the Yukon. Often we were parallel to the railroad. In Canada we knocked on a lady’s door and ate fresh made cinnamon rolls in her kitchen( donations). I don’t remember how we learned about her but Canadians I have spoken to knew about her. All in all we had a great day. We even had time to walk around Skagway before we returned to the ship.

Hi there......do you remember where the cinnamon bun lady was located?  The only one I can locate is beyond Whitehorse and far too far to go with all you did that day in Skagway.

We booked Wildwestfjords for July too. It was pending for several days, but I emailed after seeing this post and got a confirmation today. I emailed before about the early time with it being a tender port; they said that they scheduled tours 30 mins after published ship arrival time and would wait for those signed up, while people were still tendering in.

Did you book with them to go to Vigur?

I just found out about this Travel Authorization today.  Our travel agent said that this requirement came out of the blue.  I suppose I understand them wanting a record of vaccination and the health form filled out but really think that requiring a $40 fee per person is a bit ridiculous.  Regardless, we have to do it.

Our travel agent mentioned this Travel Authorization to us today, does your cruise line (RCCL) notify you that this needs to be done?  Our travel agent sent a link to the form but suggested we not complete it just yet as our cruise isn't until 9/11.  Does this sound right?  Thank goodness she just mentioned it in passing, otherwise we wouldn't have known to expect it.

You can only apply for the authorization 30 days before embarkation so your agent is correct.

  7. The walk to Nugget falls is about 20-30 minutes.  The trails are good but I would say its too long for him.  There is a trail close to the centre where you get a good look at the glacier and the falls and there are a couple of benches there that he could sit on and admire the area while the rest in your group continue the hike out to the falls.  Hope that helps

  8. when you come off the ship in Juneau there are a group of booths set up for excursions, if you go directly out into the parking lot from there we found a taxi company that took 5 of us out to Mendenhall glacier, agreed on a pick up time and they were there when they said they would be.

Looking at ship's excursion which pays for gondola up mountain and then tram tour. Wondering if anyone did this on their own. Website says gondola ride is $15/pp. How much is tram tour?

What website are you finding that information of $15/pp

  10. Hi everyone.....I have purchased this trolley several times.  Also purchased on one occasion the trolley and butterfly.  This is an excellent tour and you need to understand that the trolley goes in one direction around a huge loop.  It's a fantastic tour and you can get off at any or all of the stops.  If you do you must wait for the next trolley which is the same as most hop on/hop off anywhere.  One poster mentioned if you wanted to go from Stop 2 to Stop 10 that you must ride through all of Stops between 2 and 10.  This is also correct, again because the trolley goes in a loop that flows one direction.  You can however use your map and possibly walk to a stop a street or two over and catch the trolley a different numbered stop.  Do not worry about purchasing the ticket through the cruiseline being different than the regular ticket.  It is not different.

Somebody asked about the additional tours valued at $10.  Yes you do get them.  You just present yourself at the establishment with your sticker from the trolley and you are granted admission.  It's all very easy and enjoyable.

    Have fun.
