There are five kinds of wild Pacific salmon and they vary from pink colour ( pink salmon) to deep red (sockeye). Hatchery Atlantic salmon varies in deepness of red depending on the amount of food colouring they use in their feed.

Wild rainbow trout are red fleshed, amount depends on the amount of fresh water shrimp is in their diet. Again, hatchery trout are pale fleshed.

    I correct myself.

There is a white Spring ( Chinook) that the flesh is white.

Well, since you said that you expected to be corrected 🙂 ...

There is a type of fish called Arctic Char which is also known as red trout and looks similar to salmon. I have only had one preparation of it that I enjoyed, and that was at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Normal trout is white.

Normal wild rainbow trout varies from light red to deep red depending on the fresh water shrimp they eat. Only hatchery trout is white.

Trout and salmon are very much the same fish, one being pink and the other off white, kinda depends on from where they come. I'm ready to be corrected as I expect I will quite readily! 😄

  4. We have decided not to take the transfer to 2023.

First the disembarkation port is not Vancouver. As well after three cancellations of the same cruise it is just not meant to be. I never did like the length of the flight, the need to exchange currency, the hassle in getting to the hotel etc. It is just not worth it to try again.

We now have to deal with getting back the FCC and SBC and other perps associated with this cruise.

  5. On my cruises I like to wear a name tag:- Senõr Tom and the crew likes to address me as 'Sir Tom'.

One time a couple of ladies asked me if I worked on the ship and in a moment of mischief I said 'yes'

One lady proceeded to ask 'What?' I said I worked in the capacity of a little known job of 'escort'. It is a complimentary service that HAL provides for ladies who would like some company when they go to dinners, theatre, dancing etc. but no hanky panky. After absorbing this information for a bit one lady asked 'Where do I sign up?' 'The front desk' I said.

I think this could be considered mistaken for a crew member with a different

twist. My DH and I were on a Princess cruise to Alaska about seventeen years ago It was a formal night, but there were not many gentlemen dressed in tuxes. My DH was wearing a suit. Some others in the dining room were dressed quite casually.

During dinner,we decided we would like to make another reservation for dinner at the specialty restaurant, Sterling Steakhouse. My DH said he would speak with the maitre ‘d about a reservation .

On our way out of the restaurant, my husband approached a gentleman dressed in a tux and asked if he could assist in making a dinner reservation. The man looked at my DH and in a dismissive tone said he was not ship staff,in fact,he was a passenger !

My husband quickly apologized and we left the restaurant.

I could only think that when the gentleman returned to his table, he most likely said to his wife or SO,that he knew he should not have worn the tux!

Being taken for staff ,apparently, did not sit well with him, given his reaction to my DH’s question.🙄

That happened to me when I wore my tux in the MDR. A lady asked me to bring her more butter.

  7. It appears the end result of this exercise is:-

    1. My agent and I spent close to 2 months dealing with HAL to resolve this

    2. HAL spent 2 months as well. Lots of man-hours

    3. I ended up with more FCC than original

    4. Some personnel are more helpful than others in HAL

    5. Persistence will get you somewhere

    6. HAL would have saved everyone a lot of grief by not doing an internal audit.

I hope you have that in writing or in in email just in case HAL makes snother mistake.  Good luck...

I have saved all the emails, including the one HAL telling me the new amount of FCC/person.

    Learned my lesson last time.

  9. My agent has now given up on Christine Ferris from Guest Relations and talked to Tom Steer who is supposed to be somebody higher up in the organization. He (or someone) had looked into the case and has offered to re-instate the lost FCC. As well they also offer additional FCC if we return the refund HAL has given us 3 months ago.

We are still deciding if we will take the additional FCC offer (depending on when it needs to be used  and the sailing deadline date).

    Tom

  10. In spite of every one that my agent has spoken to agreed that we are correct, nobody seems to have the authority to reinstate the FCC that HAL has taken away originally.

So my agent continues to email and call.

    Frustrating.

    Tom

  11. The supervisor at Reservation Accounting agrees that they have made a mistake, but it will take my agent to contact Guest Relations again to reinstate the FCC.

Throughout the process, my agent has performed above and beyond his responsibility.

I am sure glad to have him because HAL would not deal with me direct.

I have no idea how you are "going to protest," Tom, but my suggestion would be if you do not get resolutions from your first protest, you may want to go higher, and when you do, a letter through "snail mail" or an email would give you the best documentation.  Keep my email handy:  deedeegroff@gmail.com, and I'll share the contacts I have in the executive office in Seattle if you'd like.

My agent have emailed the person from HAL who contacted me initially. I can't possibly see how they can get away with such a mistake.

  13. Just got an email from HAL saying that when they did an internal audit they found out they had given my wife and I extra FCC that we shouldn't have although I thought the previous amount was correct. This was from cancellation of 3 cruises.

As we thought all that have settled back in Dec. we have destroyed all our records and have no way of checking.

My present agent cannot check into the first 2 cancellations as they were booked with someone else, whom I do not wish to work with any more.

Don't know what I can do other than just accept what HAL says.
