  1. Thanks for that advice. I will do that.

I booked a cabin at an amazing price from an online agency too. It was okay, and I would have been happy there, but preferred a different location. I got the same story from the online agency, no more rooms at your rate. My solution? Every time I an email sale ad from them I looked to see if the prices had come back down to what I paid. Well, they did eventually and I was able to find a really great room where I wanted to be that was available on their pricing engine. I called and my room was switched, happily!

  2. OH now you have another thing to be concerned about.

Have you considered noise from the theater when they're practicing early or performing late at night?

The theatre is two decks below us,. Do you really think noise will be an issue?

  3. I'm not thinking the foot traffic will be a concern. It WAS a concern on the Norwegian college spring break party boat we sailed previously, but on a Celebrity out of San Juan? I'm thinking it will be ok.

And I'm only concerned about smoke while underway, not in port. So I think I'll be good there, too.

To clarify, the price I got was $500 less PER PERSON for a veranda room, so I would have to pay $1000 to cancel and rebook elsewhere.

I think I will take my chances on getting a good neighbor on the other side of the connecting door.

Thanks for everyone's input! Looking so forward to sailing Celebrity again!!

  4. LOL, ok well now I'm not concerned about the smoking issue because it seems like we are sufficiently far enough forward of the smoking area on Deck 5.

But now, I'm concerned about the connecting room. I really don't want to cancel and rebook because the price I got was about $500 less than everywhere else I checked.

Do prices ever come down as the final payment date gets closer?

  5. Thank you for the information, but I'm a bit confused. The online agency that I booked through is telling me that I cannot change rooms because apparently they purchased a group of cabins and they are now all sold out. And I tried calling celebrity and they won't do anything for me because I booked with a travel agent. Shouldn't he be aware that I'm a past celebrity Cruiser and may be available for an upgrade?

  6. Hmm, well I booked a room through a travel agent and it was discounted. He's saying I got the last room in the group and there are no starboard rooms to switch to.

So, can someone tell me exactly where on deck 5 port side, the smoking area is? I'd like to see if our room is anywhere near it.

i may have to cancel my reservation and book new rooms at a higher rate, or just book an inside cabin. No sense paying for the veranda room if you can never use the veranda.

  7. Tbog12, I was thinking the same thing. It will give us time to sit by the pool, unpack, eat dinner and then hit the sailaway party. But just wondered if our embarkation time would be bumped back because of the late departure.

  8. I have reserved Room 7043 on the Summit, sailing from San Juan in January, 2017.

I am concerned about where the smoking decks are located, because a previous Celebrity Cruise (Equinox) in the Mediterranean, we had a veranda room on the port side on deck 7, and the smoking deck was directly below us on Deck 5. We never could have our door open or sit out there because of the constant smoke.

How do I find out where the smoking deck is to avoid this same scenario on the Summit?

  9. Leaves from SJU, ports are St. Thomas, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, and St. Maarten.

She has only been on the Norwegian Pearl and it was during a college spring break week = DISASTER. A bunch of drunken college kids with BAD behavior. That week of cruising even had HER muttering "I hate people."

So I want to treat her to a Celebrity cruise, but I don't want either of us to be disappointed with a run-down ship. I will say when I went on the Summit in 2011, I loved it. And we loved the itinerary.

Does the Summit still have the aft bar up on one of the top decks? I remember fondly toasting each port as we sailed away.

  10. The Summit itinerary has more ports. The Silhouette itinerary includes 3 of the 5 ports that the Summit does, but then has an additional 2 sea days.

I would be OK with either one, but I know my daughter prefers to visit as many ports as we can.

I did see that the Summit is getting a "refresh" in 2016?

  11. I am going to take my daughter on a cruise next January, to celebrate her graduation from college.

We are doing a Southern or Eastern caribbean and are comparing the Summit and Silhouette itineraries.

We have traveled on the Summit before, doing the Southern caribbean, which is one of the itineraries we are considering. However, it seems like the ship is not getting the greatest reviews. The last time we sailed on the Summit was a few years ago.

However, the Silhouette's itinerary is not as good (IMO) as the Summit's.

Just want opinions about whether the Summit is looking a little run down, and we should go with the Silhouette, even though the itinerary is not as appealing to us?

  12. Last year we went on a Celebrity 14 day Mediterranean Cruise. They made the unfortunate decision to place the smoking section on the fifth deck, about 3 decks below our stateroom. We couldn't even sit out on our balcony because of it. Very disappointing. I don't understand why they don't make the smoking deck up on the very top deck, so it doesn't bother anyone.

  13. Ship is docking at 7:30 a.m. We have until 1:30 in Key West.

Would like a recommendation for a good breakfast place in Key West, and then we want to just walk around Duvall Street and Mallory Square.

Our ship docks in Outer Mole, so I was told I need to take the shuttle into town. Any one in particular? Cost?

  14. We only have a few hours in Key West (7:30 am to 1:00 pm) and I thought we would just walk around Duvall Street and Mallory Square. How far is it from the dock to Duvall Street? Can we just walk there?

  15. OK, that changes my question a bit.

Please recommend a good restaurant on Miami Beach (is that also South Beach?) for dinner Sunday night, and then a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel in Miami for breakfast on Monday morning.

    Thank you!
