  1. Have not done yet .....looking at a HAL one also.....this ship on MSC...not sure about what happens to it???.....do not like to go on a cruise and it is the last one....just like eating the left overs in the fridge..lol
  2. Jeju....eh.....will check that place out.....thanks
  3. Thinking of doing either the Sept. 12....8 day......or the Sept. 20th....9 day one.........Any thoughts on those two different dates and places or itinerary as we have never been to Asia and it is on our bucket list.....We have cruised on MSC many times so know all about the line and funny quirks it has...lol.....but we like them as a line to cruise on.....pretty easy for us to fly over to Japan also.....only a 11 hr trip..... Another question......where does the ship go to after the return to Yokohama on Sept. 29th......possible could stay and and go to ???? a mystery or does it go in for repairs or refurb???.......this in this fall so there should be a cruise to somewhere next.... Ken on the west coast of Canada.....
  4. I guess no one carries a thermometer with them...lol.....would have thought someone would know...
  5. Just wondering if they bump up the temperatures in the outside pools when cruising in the Alaska waters......especially early in the season....like May....My daughter and family did not do much research on the Crown Princess and now knows the 4 pools are all outside with none of them covered......She is cruising with two children under 8 and they love to swim in pools.....will not be much fun if the pools are cold and under 70 degrees......anyone know if they bump up temps???.....will not be much fun for her watching them have fun if you have to sit in your warm clothes by the pool on a pool chair either.....probably best to go on a ship with a covered pool in a colder area....lol.......just shows ....always check things out before you cruise.....a learning experience.....final payments all done so hard to do any changes now ...
  6. What about the Crown Princess.....my daughter and two small kids are on it and she wanted to be able to go to the pool....not outside in May.....lol.....anyone know????
  7. Keep bantering....lol.......one can see the medallion app has people who love it and others who do not care about it.......I am sort of in the middle.....certainly do not have a cell phone in my hand every moment of the day....haha......so I guess that put me in some camp or group somewhere.....anyways looking forward to the 11 day cruise up to Alaska and back.....medallion or not....
  8. Wow....the banter keeps on going.....my quick question seems to have caused lots of thoughts.....anyways how do I get this thread closed now.....since poor "OLD" me started it...lol My question has been answered....on to better things....is there a moderator to stop this???
  9. Ha...smart idea....medallion around neck if you fall overboard.....then they can find you fast...lol Wow....my simple question has morphed into a big conflab.....medallion button=old cruise card.....great ......and I will not be carrying my cell phone all over the ship.....so I can order drinks....lol.....or be lazy and not go get my own food......for some this might sound cool but not for us......Thanks for the answer to my question.......and I will be picking mine up at the check in.....not in the mail.....
  10. Well....lots of eye opening thoughts.....prob will just use the feature to open our door.....pretty low tech.......I hate it when google sends me a map showing where I have been in my car for a month.....lol.....sometimes places I do not want to remember...haha......hey !!!! just a thought....I guess Princess will know how many times an old timer like me now uses the men's room.....just kidding.....anyways...Thanks for the info....
  11. Oh....now I get it........two different ideas.....lol........the medallion button?? is the old cruise card.....that I can deal with.....just to open the cabin door.....great......I see I can just go ask for a cruise card also.....used to hang it on a lanyard....I guess when you check in you get this button thingy....lol....
  12. We have not cruised with Princess for about 4 years now....confused somewhat.....is this an item that you need on the ship or can you still be "old" fashion and be self sufficient???? and organize things yourself???.....We are booked for an Alaska one in the spring.....starting to get into the planning......Thanks
  13. I must be "old".....really am...lol.....but for us we just like the basic cruise price and pay for what we really want......in this day and age $$$$ are easy to blow and easy to save if you are savvy ......for both of us an extra $60 USA a day times 2... or 81 CAN times 2..is a silly waste of money.....but we are "light" drinkers..... a beer with lunch and one with dinner.....for me anyways....my wife a glass of wine.... and desserts are free in the buffet or dining room...why pay for a "special one"...heck they are all special as we do not make them....lol......
  14. Wow....good comments....not so sure about the negative one that showed up though.....as parents we took our kids years ago all crammed into an inside cabin for Christmas and had a blast....so we know what it is all about.....maybe I was worried that it was a HAL one..with usually an "older" crowd.....she also had a choice of Princess for 5 days......lol...perhaps a younger crowd...who knows these days.......either probably would be about the same...... Then she started to look at RCCL and got blown away....lol......life goes on and all we can do as good parents is explain some of the options they have.....they make the choice....
  15. Thanks for the pictures.....really does not look all that bad......just make sure things are put away....toys etc....lol......like the one with the double bed at one end and the bunk over the couch.....seems to be more nicer.....
  16. Thanks for that comment.....I am a retired educator and like the positive comment.....maybe this will be lots of fun for them and 5 days is not a long time.....
  17. My daughter is thinking of doing a 5 day...Noordam out of Vancouver in the spring....with husband....lol......and two kids 6 and 5.....I am not so sure that is a good idea???...they can get an family ocean view or a balcony....but it will be like being in a closet with 4 people with the beds out of the ceiling or one with the couch.....My thinking is there would not be much for the young kids other than the pool area and perhaps a few activities with the Club HAL group....not sure they even would have staff for that club??....Itinerary is nice....Astoria, Seattle and Victoria.....they could get off and do some nice touring in part of the day..........I think she just wants a holiday without worrying about food and things to do....sort of a break....and the price is right....with credit....haha....What are your thoughts if you have traveled on HAL with small children.....Thanks...
  18. Good to know......I would imagine Princess would want the ship to be in good order to travel to Hawaii and back.....could be rough sometimes......yikes if motor not working well....lol.....
  19. 14 August 1, 2014 #25 Posted 5 hours ago Just got off the Crown yesterday. We averaged about 18 knots. Lots of vibration especially in dining room. This is what I was referring to.....problem not fixed???......we also have friends booked on the Crown to do the Hawaii one from Van......should I tell them to be wary???
  20. So....looks like all the problems have not been solved....we are booked later in the fall.....may think about doing another princess instead......but not the crown.....too bad......am I right to think that the ship is not really what it is supposed to be running like???
  21. Too bad....was one of our fav places to hang out on HAL......always nice to have a live band and good old songs to dance to........the violin concerts were not our "cup of tea"....lol
  22. Thanks...with all the crap on the internet now you never know what is true....
  23. “On HAL’s Westerdam now. Ship malfunctioned while at Hubbard Glacier, severely hampering forward progress. Captain says part of propulsion system (Azipod failure). Heading to Sitka now, but will skip Ketchikan.
