I understand that any booking - on a RT basis, in season (beginning October 1st) - qualifies.  However, it is *any* sighting, so if the crew sees the lights at 2 in the morning, there is a documented sighting.  Doesn't matter if no one other than the crew is up and sees it.

We booked through a TA, and she was told this by a representative in the Hurtigruten US office.

I do not really know how good the offer is - I have highlighted some of the conditions in bold - some tight limitations.

The promise is applicable on Roundtrip voyages between 1 October and 31 March

Northern Lights Occurrence is defined as a sighting from the ship which is recorded by the ship’s deck officers and which is announced to passengers on board. An occurrence can last anything from a few minutes to a matter of hours, and the ships decision as to whether the Northern light occurred is final.

If the Northern Lights do not appear, we will give you another 6 or 7-day Classic Voyage in an unspecified inside twin cabin on a half board basis free of charge

Thanks for taking the time to chime in on something you find so irritating.  I should have been more specific. Flights to Copenhagen from Orlando are $635,000 dollars one way. Does that help?

To me it looks like a 1000 factor - prices one way fro MCO to CPH should be in the range of $400 to $600.

The problem could easily be that Nordic countries does use ‘ . ‘ as thousand separator and ‘ , ‘ as decimal separator - which easily can lead to some miscalculations. Also be careful if you get Icelandair airfare in ISK - US$100 is equal to ISK 11,700 - or can be shown as “11.000”.

Or if price is shown at $635,00 which will be the case in Nordic Countries.

First, have a look at the Ports of Call forum for Northern Europe and Baltic.

    https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/116-northern-europe-amp-baltic-sea/

Yes, post you question at this forum - and also be specific on ports of call and time  - many ports along the Norwegian Coast with very different options - but as mentioned , do not expect tours to be sold at the pier except HoHo busses - need to be arranged prior to arrival - but very few cancellations - most posts are in the fjords.

My question is: has anyone had experience with the Hutigruten Northern Lights guarantee? We have nothing in writing and only the word of expedition team members.

The program is called "Northern Lights Promise" and as I understand the terms and conditions only applies to voyages booked from Hurtigruten directly - not if booked through an agent.

Unfortunately, the temperature is higher than usual this winter and thus less snow and ice - also more clouds. During the last days the Auroral activity has been rather high, but with the many clouds impossible to see.

I'm sure that the refund of the excursions will be solved by your travel agent.

Delighted to have discovered this thread, we are sailing on an 11 night Fjords cruise in May/June this year and are looking to plan excursions. We are visiting Olden, Alesund, Andalsnes, Trondheim, Leknes, Tromso and Honningsvag.

Olden, and Ålesund is covered in post # 6

    - In June/July you’ll have midnight sun for Leknes, Tromso and Honningsvag.

    Inspiration for the remaining ports:

    Åndalsnes
Scenic sailing through Romsdalsfjord  - the main attractions are  the Trollstigvegen, and  scenic Rauma railway.
    Trondheim,
the city with Nidaros Cathedral, Bakklandet (oldest part of the city) - Sverresborg Open Air Museum and Løkken Vintage Train and Old Mine.
    Leknes, Lofoten
Lofoten is very scenic and a Lofoten Island sightseeing recommended.

    Tromsø
The city with the  Arctic Cathedral, Botanical garden, and Fjellheisen (Cable car).

    Honningsvåg
A visit to North Cape or a Bird Cruise at Gjesværstappan - a Nature Reserve is home to many seals and about 2.7 million seabirds.

    Please add your additional/detailed questions.

  6. Thank you Hunding. Weather forecast is pretty good - a bit warmer than expected with decreasing temperatures. Light to moderate breeze, expecting calm seas.

Auroral activity is a bit low but hope for clear skies - at least north of Tromsø.

My plan is to post some video postcards during the voyage.

I will be disembarking the Serenade of the Seas on Thursday, June 20 @ Oceankaj and taking a taxi to Copenhagen Central Station for train to Hamburg.  At least that was the original plan!  Is Oesterport station closer to the cruiseport?

Østerport is 10 minutes while Central Station is 20 minutes by taxi - actually the trains will originate from Østerport, platform 12. The station is much smaller and less busy.

  8. I’m quite sure that you’ll not have time for sight seeing in Venice. Time too short assuming that you need to get you luggage to the cruise ship.

Suggest that you do take the Water bus from the airport to the cruise terminal. Then you’ll see part of Venice.

Here is a video from Cruise terminal to the airport for inspiration.

My ship Silver Wind (which will be docked I presume) arrives in Flam at 8am

I can see that Silver Wind In 2019 is anchoring in Flåm - depends on how many ships in Flåm that day.

and I'd be prepared to gamble if its feasible Id manage to catch that 8.35.

Wait with booking until you know if the ship is docked. - Or plan for a later train and catch your ship in Gudevangen - only 20 minutes from Flåm to Gudevangen by bus.

  10. You might be able to take the train from Østerport (Oesterport) without a change at Copenhagen Central - might be more convinient if your cruise arrival is the same day.

You can book tickets 3 months in advance at bahn.com.

in June a seat reservation is required- booked in addition to the fare.

Again, the change in Nykøbing F will be at the same platform.

  11. The trains does go by two diffetent routes from Hamburg to Copenhagen - trains with change in Nykøbing F is via ferry while trains with change in Frederecia is via the Storebælt Bridge.

In general the change In Nykøbing F is at the same platform while at Frederecia it will be at different platforms. The time for change will be sufficient.

Just avoid trains with more than one change. All different platforms.

I have been taking the train from Hamburg several times - very convenient.

Has anyone flown on Eurowings out of Copenhagen to Ft Myers?  We are looking for air in May 2019. Expedia rates it as a very good flight, but haven't heard anything about them.

Eurowings is the low-cost airline from the Lufthansa Group - As usual when dealing with low-cost airlines check luggage allowance and extra fees for seats and booking - might look as a good rate at Expedia but might be more expensive before booking is completed.

Link to their web Announcing a promotion at €240 from Copenhagen to Fort  Meyers. Airline is quite popular In Germany.

but I'm completely stuck for ideas for Kristiansand. We want to be out and about doing something active and/or enjoying the scenery. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

While it's obvious what to see and do in the majority of the Norwegian ports, Kristiansand is a bit different - located in Southern part of Norway far from the mountains or fjords. Which week day in June will you be in Kristiansand? - things to do like sightseeing railway and boat trips does vary based on week days.

  14. Few Baltic cruises out of Stockholm doesn't have sea days - here are just few examples.

    1. Baltic Sea Cruise with Oceania Marina - 10 days from Copenhagen to Stockholm, departure 29/08/2020
    2. Baltic Sea Cruise with Seven Seas Explorer - 10 days from Copenhagen to Stockholm, departure 30/06/2020
    3. Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia with Costa Magica - 7 days from/to Stockholm, departure 18/05/2019 (several cruises)
