  1. What's the current status of the cabanas at Nellie's getting the upgraded buffet? I know it's not officially included but many were getting it awhile ago.

Some people have reported tipping the cabana attendants and getting the wrist bands that permit the use of the upgraded buffet. IIRC, you are correct that the official rule is that only Barefoot Beach cabanas and gold card holders get the upgraded buffet. We have done both and did not find the upgraded buffet worth the fuss.

  2. Quick question- if we are on a 12 night cruise can we purchase the package on day 4 or 5 and would it be prorated?

Yes. You can purchase any time, so long as there are 4 days remaining in the cruise. People have also reported purchasing the package and, when finding that they do not drink enough to justify it, canceling the package, receiving a credit, and having all drinks they purchased simply charged at the regular price.

  3. Thanks for the clarification.

I have to ask, and please pardon my ignorance. If you do in fact, go overboard, and know how to sufficiently swim, how hard is it to manage the currents from the ship, and the waves? Would the azipods pose any risk of pulling someone in as the ship passes? I've never understood how they lose track of the people that have gone overboard. I see that he appeared to be injured, from the blood. Maybe that contributed to the fact that he couldn't keep himself afloat?

Again, please pardon my ignorance, but I figured there are people here that are much more experienced than myself, and may have some insight.

Ships this big create a serious draw or undertow that pulls people under the water. Also, getting hit by any part of the hull, even going at a slower speed, can be deadly. This is really horrible.

  4. Did a search and read many threads on this topic...Seems to be some debate on if CT is still on Oasis? Can anyone confirm? Would like to book for sailing in March.... Can I do that on line once reservations open? Or do I need to wait to get on the ship?

    Many thanks!!!

When your dining does open up, could you report back whether CT is still available on Oasis? I saw a lot of the same debate that you did, but could not find any confirmation that it will still be held when we sail in April. Fingers crossed!

  5. Oh I see. So back to the original question, but rephrased... If charging is not allowed on a child's sea pass card, can they use that card to load arcade credit? Or rather, would an adult need to use their card to load arcade credit on to a child's card? I am hoping it is the latter.

I am pretty sure that the block on charging works everywhere but that machine outside the arcade.

  6. I was wondering if cups can be re-used or re-programmed. We have two sets of the cups. I know that they have the chip required to use Freestyle machines. I was just wondering if I brought my existing cups if they could be re-used.

I am NOT trying to cheat and get cups to work that were activated on a previous cruise. I am asking if I can bring my existing cups and have them activated on a cruise, paying for the drink package but not acquiring more cups.

My first guess is that this is not possible, but just thought I would ask.

My guess is that these are ARPT RFID tags, with an active reader and passive (unpowered) tags. Authentication of these tags probably takes place in the reader, which is likely programmed with a range of valid tags. Probably for inventory reasons, I have heard of several people using their cups on the second week of a B2B. My guess is that the cups are valid for 14 days so that they do not have to reprogram or use different cups as frequently.

  7. No diet coke in the Med. Europe has Coke Lite. My wife hates it.

I agree with her. Coke Light in some countries has aspartame and ace k. Diet Coke is all aspartame. I don't know why it should make such a difference, but it really does.

I drink so much DC that I can tell when the product is old and starting to break down. I can tell as well when the individual cans have gotten too hot, because it seems to break down the sweetener or some other ingredient also.

  8. OP js, you seem very agreeable and accommodating. It's a pleasure to read your positive comments when sadly, some people tend to complain about the cans, the price, the perceived inconvenience... :(

I hope you have a fabulous cruise. :)

I second these sentiments and, as someone who drinks entirely too many Diet Cokes, I understand completely that someone wants to make sure of the supply before cruising. ;)

  9. I'm relatively new to the boards, but I haven't heard of it being discontinued. To my knowledge its one of their most successful dining experiences.

There have been a few comments about it:

I wonder if this is merely confusion among Royal reps because of the changes in the various lounges and the abandonment of Dynamic Dining on Oasis/Allure. Dining is not open yet on my April Oasis cruise, so I will have to wait and see in the interim.

  10. Hi, there! Has anyone sailed both Oasis and Allure? We did Oasis last January, Western Carib. We loved it. This January we are on Allure, Eastern Carib. this time. We've been to all the ports before, but just wondering how the ships differ. I know that the amenities are pretty much the same, but how about the shows? Other than Mama Mia vs. Cats, who is the typical headliner, etc.?

Also, how is the Brazilian barbecue. Is it as good as the one on land?

    Thanks,

    Koohiichan

Samba Grill is equivalent to a lower level, chain churrascaria, maybe slightly lower than something like Red or Green or Tucano's. It is not Fogo De Chao or Texas de Brazil. That said, the meat was good and the service was perfect. They do tend to overseason and overcook the meat, but the cuts of meat are very tasty and varied. It has been a few years, but we had a dancer come out and do South American dances as entertainment during our meal.

If you decide to go (and I do recommend visiting at least once while on the Allure), try to find a time when the sun has gone down. The solarium is pretty hot in the early evening and very bright while the sun is out.

  11. Guess I'll have to dine with the also-rans. Suppose we could get leftovers from the special buffet?

Gotta admit, last time we ate at the special buffet, the only special thing about it was the lack of crowds. I even spent some time slummin' in the regular buffet and didn't see what was so special about our upper class buffet.

We were in one of the last groups in which they grandfathered the cabana renters into the Barefoot Beach buffet. Love that alliteration.

HOWEVER, several people have reported recently that their cabana attendant has been able to procure the special wrist bands and gotten their patrons into the special buffet. Probably just depends on your attendant and how crowded the upgraded buffet is. It never hurts to asks.

  12. Out for drinks at Coconuts in Cocoa Beach last night. $4.25 for Corona and most other imports, but that doesn't matter. On Royal, most imports in 11 or 12 oz bottles are $5.50 plus tip. This was on Freedom in June. When were you on Royal last to be so positive on the price of beer?

BTW, my phone shows my location as Cocoa Beach, FL. It's under profile. You are from Palm Coast

Our experience with beer prices is the same.

Also, listed as the best restaurant in Palm Coast, FL by TripAdvisor, Captain's BBQ provides premium beers for $3.74.

  13. I am like you I think. If I had a drink package, i would probably drink more than I should( just to get my moneys worth). I won't be On RCL this year but i will be next. Celebrity offers guests a prorated drink package, that can be purchased later in a cruise. That way one can judged. I can't afford the extra calories that getting my monies worth may ensue. But my next cruise will be the decision maker.

Since I am a premium label drinker, and sweet drinks are not for me, one has to wonder if they will actually spend 65$ in beverages. Daily.

    But probably try[emoji12][emoji12][emoji12]

IIRC, Royal offers prorated packages, so long as there are three nights remaining in the cruise.
