  1. If you want to go into Central London to see the sights, you are going to eat up much of your savings on hotel with train/tube passes, and you'll eat up a lot of time traveling between Heathrow and Central London. Think about how much your time is worth while in England, with the cost to get there from your home--don't short-change yourself on time to see the things you really want to see after spending so much money to get to England! You are really better off staying in the city center.

That's my opinion, at least. :)

    Agreed!

  2. In many ways you are right that as a society we have changed and therefore our travel logs have changed as well. I can accept change, it happens all the time in corporations and what they offer. But overall the cruising experience for US, is still a great way to vacation. What disappoints me personally is how crude and rude too many cruisers have become, and unfortunately this is also reflective in how our society has changed. It isn't just the poor etiquette at elevators or the chair hogs at the pool or the lack of manners at dinner, it is in so many other areas. Pushing and shoving to arguing with a crew/staff member about something that the crew/staff member has no oversight ability on. I watched a cruiser argue with a member of the gym staff over a class schedule and the cruiser would not back off. The cruise line keeps the same schedule of classes on 'at sea' days....but the cruiser would not accept the fact that perhaps she had picked up the wrong clipboard when signing up for the class. The cruiser literally was pointing her finger right at the staff members nose.

I would have reported that abuse to the appropriate supervisor.

There is no way I would stand by and watch some innocent employee be berated.

  3. Never in a million years would I have thought to take a photo of a doggie poop area. I have taken photos of the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, Stonehenge, the Old Course, etc. etc. and just never thought to include a photo of a doggie poop box for my travel memories collection. Thank God someone did. :'):'):')

    Hahaha!

  4. Many of us agree you would be so much better off using a private company...I would highly recommend for your consideration...www.romeinlimo.com ...they gave us an amazing day to remember which included a private tour of the Vatican.

I agree! Have used them on 2 Med cruises to 5 different ports.

You will see and do far more than any ship sponsored tour.

    Check their reviews on TripAdvisor.

  5. This was on a river cruise of the Seine with Uniworld in May 2016. The highlight for us (and DH and I had been there before) was the visit to the Normandy Beaches. All 3 tour groups met up at the American cemetery for a 2:30 special service arranged (and I presume, paid for) by Uniworld. Veterans on our cruise laid a wreath, the Star Spangled Banner was played over the public address system (and loud enough to be heard throughout the cemetery - every visitor, regardless of nationality, stopped and faced the American flag), then a jet (we think it was French but we were so surprised no one was quite sure) did a fly over, followed by Taps over the public address system. I can truthfully say there wasn't a dry eye among all the Uniworld cruisers (and many others I would guess). It was one of the most touching experiences I've ever had.

My husband and I were privileged this past October to take a cruise and took a private tour of the Normandy Beaches. It was a huge bucket list item for me as my Uncle, was killed there. When we arrived at the American Cemetery, we too had a beautiful ceremony with the National Anthem played as we stood at the entrance looking at all the graves.

We were then asked to make an about face to look at the beautiful sculpture dedicated to all the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was then that they played Taps and I can assure you there were many tears shed and no one took a knee. Sorry if that remark offends some.

It was one of the most moving days of my life and I truly wish everyone could visit there at least once.

To stand on Omaha beach and see the 100 ft cliffs that the Army Rangers scaled, is truly humbling. Think about it, to me they were still babies at 18 or 19 and their heroics changed the course of the war.

By the way, it was truly heartwarming to see the French have never forgotten as you see the American flag flown throughout the region.

  6. My husband & I are sailing the Anthem this sunday 01/28/18. Last evening at 5:30 I got an e-mail from RCCL stating I'd be rescheduled from the 6pm show on the 7th to the 2:30 show same date. What the ????

So I called C&A desk, asked to have my rsvp back. They said that 6 pm show was cancelled.

    Couldn't get the 6th for 8pm show either-not available.

Well after the call, I go into the cruise planner and see the TRUTH!!!

It would appear RCCL needs a bit more of our cash. they are now selling that 6pm show for 79.00 per head.

I could put either show in my cart-for a price-but the complimentary option was not available

Oh you get a fancy cocktail, a preferred seat, a meet & greet & photo with the cast. Ha!

So a whole lot of people just get bumped so Royal can try a new money making scam?

This corporation is making it harder and harder for me to stay loyal to Royal!!!

How dare they change the game plan the very last evening possible to adjust things online?

How dare they take away my reserved seats, I booked months ago?

I'm not done. I will have my seats back! This is a crusade people!

I find myself very upset with this backhanded abuse that RCCL feels they have some sort of right to inflict on it's loyal customers. I reached out to C&A this morning, Oregon office. I explained the lack of a satisfying result for the problem. I pleaded to be put through to resolutions, as C&A has no authority to handle this, as they keep saying. No, I was repeatedly scolded, they need to "do some research" before they can escalate it...

I then called a guest relations # I had on my desk-turned out to be Celebrity. The agent was very understanding & put me through to Miami resolution dept. They used the same BS that C&A used- C&A needs to finish it's "research" before Resolutions can do anything. I argued that since they were the only ones able to accommodate a customer complaint-why the wait? No go. Would not say if they can even fix this, or when-I was literally in tears...(I can only hope the show at 6pm on Feb7th plays to an empty theatre.)

I was promised, however that I would hear back from Miami today. They better make it right because I have always hated bad breakups, and I never ever go back. because, once it's over, it's over...

Royal, please don’t spit in the face of your clients. We will walk.

  7. Our first trip to London was in October and we stayed at the Hotel Indigo. It’s a boutique hotel that’s part of IHG group. Very cool decor and decent sized rooms.

Great location within walking distance to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The tube was right down the street.

Smiths for Airports was fully booked so we hired Black Cabs and they were fine.

  8. The post is titled ‘warning’. If you don’t believe the OP’s account of what happened, then don’t take the warning. I don’t really understand why people feel the need to dispute someone else’s experience simply because it hasn’t happened to them.

I am the OP and it was indeed my experience flying out of Heathrow.

All I was trying to point out that I wld not recommend throwing meds in the day of the week containers as they were inspecting bottles and labels. I would hate for anyone to miss their flight as the authorities confirmed what you tell them is your RX is what you claim it to be.

    Happy travels!

  9. Sailed on Oct 13 from Southampton to Northern Europe.

On our return flight from Heathrow, there were signs everywhere to expect enhanced security screening for anyone flying back to the US.

We had 4 checkpoints and at one point we were told to remove all prescription drugs for inspection. I know many cruisers like to put their meds in daily pill containers for convenience. In my case, I only had one RX in it’s original container but for those that had no identifier, it was quite a hassle.

I highly recommend you bring the original containers and carry your empty

daily container to avoid delays and extra scrutiny.

  10. My advice:

Book with Romeinlimo. I've used them on 2 separate cruises.

First time was Rome Highlights with a private guide at the Vatican and

tour from Naples to the Amalfi coast with a spectacular lunch high on the cliffs of Positano followed by an afternoon in Pompeii.

Trip two was once again Rome highlights and another private tour at the Vatican.

Next was Pisa and Florence and last was a relaxing day spent doing the entire Amalfi Coast , lunch at Da Costantino with that spectacular view. Riding in a comfortable Mercedes sedan with Andrea Bocelli playing it was a perfect day for tired travelers.

    I cannot praise them enough!

  11. I agree. A woman just died a terrible death and 3 children are now without both parents, yet all some can do is attack one another over a term of endearment or some other difference of opinion. Come on folks. I realize all threads are open for all to express their points of view but as the OP, I'm going to ask that you refrain from picking arguments on this thread. Please? <3

As always, the voice of reason.

    Thank You!

  12. Anyone sailing on May 14, 2017 Freedom of the Seas out of Barcelona? I have never been to Barcelona and want to tour the city prior or after the cruise. Does anyone have some good tour recommendations for Barcelona.

Barcelona Day Tours is outstanding. Have used them 3x. Check them out on Tripadvisor. .

You should also visit the ports of call board here on CC as well as the roll call for your specific sailing.

Barcelona is a great city and you may also want to DIY to many of the sites.
