Kmom - I forgot to mention we'll be on the Legend next month (woohoo!) for the first time, but it's my 12th Carnival cruise.

I appreciate your great attitude about the decor and so glad to know they're doing the individual muster drills. Your posts are wildly entertaining and informative, and so much more. Reading about your mom's scooter issues, as well as the motion of the ship, I want to pick your brain a bit. My husband uses a walker for short distances, but has a wheelchair for anything more than a few hundred steps. We had already agreed that we need the wheelchair for the cruise, because there is so much walking on a ship, and because balance becomes such an issue when she starts wobbling. I have trouble staying upright on a ship under the calmest of seas! We already thought about getting in and out of the cabin - I'll hold the door, he'll use his walker to get in and out. I'll fold up the chair and move that in and out. But now I'm wondering, will we have trouble navigating hallways and other public spaces? When we contacted Carnival's special needs handicapped accessibility people they didn't mention that at all.

We know the feeling! Two dogs (three til recently 😪), Four ferrets and five turtles (all different subspecies)... but guess what! It makes the morning of debarkation A JOY! We are among the first off the ship and first back home to bask in the love of our zoo!
Aawww!

They have two channels of movies on the stateroom TVs. One appears to be holiday / family themed (think Garfield and both Jingle All The Way movies), while the other is geared toward an older audience with a mix of action, comedy, and drama. Nothing seems to be recent. There are about 8 or 9 movies rotating on each channel.
They are also showing a "Blockbuster Movie" in the Firebird Lounge during our stop in Nassau. This week's "Blockbuster" is The Man Who Invented Christmas. Not a blockbuster I've ever heard of, but it is available for those who are interested.

I'm enjoying your cruise! I think Legend doesn't have the big screen on the Lido deck, like Pride and other ships. Do you know if they show movies on the cabin TV's?

Sadly not solo...that sounds interesting. I just sat down to figure out what I'm doing wrong loading pictures. It's not like I've never done it before, but it's been a while.
I was just being mean, not interesting. I had booked it solo, but then my husband's time freed up, so I invited him to join me.😄

Lido deck on Pride and Legend are nearly identical (except pools).
How are the pools different?

Well, the McCullough certainly is the most popular book. Keep in mind it is written from the U,S. perspective and thus ignores many salient aspects of the build. For a more rounded historical perspective there is Ovidio Espina’s “How Wall Street Created a Nation: J.P. Morgan, Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal.”
And from the perspective of those who actually dug (and blasted) the canal (and died in their thousands) you need the brilliant “The Canal Builders: Making America’s Empire at the Panama Canal” by Julie Greene.
Added benefit: both shorter than McCullough although I am partial to door-stopper volumes.
[Born in Panama, raised in the Canal Zone (Balboa), bilingual. Dad was an engineer for the Panama Canal Company (Admin building), Mom a bookkeeper for the U.S. Army in Corozal. Freshman at Balboa High School during 1964 Flag Riots. Will return to Panama and do a full transit and Costa Rica cruise with Nat’l Geographic in February 2022.]
Wow. Thank you for those over-looked suggestions, OctoberKat.

Last night around 11pm our house and the house next door had a power surge thanks to Pepco. My subwoofer popped, three circuits tripped and the transformer in our furnace was fried. Also batteries in thermostat leaked. Crazy night. $385 to get heat back running, which is critical because we're leaving the dogs and ferrets in the house and ferrets die easily if it gets cold. Stressed out until 9am when the guy showed up, fortunately he had the part in the van. When he showed me the old transformer it was black where it used to be silver. I NEED A CRUISE!!!
Oh, gosh. Aaargh! Pre-cruise nightmare. I would have lost it. A-n-y-w-a-y - you can start posting pictures any time now. I'm ready. I'm waiting. You must have boarded by now. Or not. Is this one of the many instances when Baltimore isn't quite ready because of currents in the Chesapeake or something?

I can't wait until tomorrow. I won't be on the Legend until January, but I can't wait to read your post and see your pictures tomorrow. Happy embarkation!

Thanks so much for the photos! I'll be on her in January. Any comment on the food? What are the food options other than buffet, pizza, deli, cantina, Guys burgers, MDR?

December 6, 2021. When we booked, it looked like a sure thing. We booked it a couple of months ago, back when it looked like we'd all be vaccinated soon. Then the vaccine roll-out was slower than expected. Then a bunch of people said they wouldn't get vaccinated. Then I began to consider all the other logistic the CDC and the cruise industry are dealing with. Aaargh! I went from optimist to pessimist in 0 flat. It's only March. It will happen.

The longer I can't cruise, the more I'm willing to compromise to get back on a ship. I will accept the new normal, whatever that turns out to be. At first the thought of having to go on a Carnival-sponsored excursion felt like a deal breaker. I love to get off the ship and find my own way around a port. But never doing that again is much more attractive than never cruising again! One of the first posters here said something to the affect that we have to wear masks anyway, so I 'd rather be wearing one on a cruise ship! I second that.
