  1. So this cruising solo when you have a spouse/significant other....how exactly does that go over? I mean, I’m open to it just wondering how the conversation goes lol

As for me, my husband of almost 24 years knows that I need my space. Once the kids were out of high school and I was no longer tied to their schedules I took a couple of short land vacations on my own. My husband was ok with that, especially since he couldn't get time away from work and I could and we needed to use up some timeshare points. Two years ago when I was looking at retirement and hubby was not, I got it into my head that a solo cruise would be the BEST THING EVER. I casually mentioned this to hubby and he let the comment pass. I retired a year and a half ago; hubby is still working. We've cruised together since then. When I told him I was considering booking this cruise he said he didn't think he could take vacation then and I said, uh, I'd really like to go by myself. After a brief pause, he said, oh, okay. The only thing that bugs him is that I didn't get a good deal. I had just let a great deal get away from me and was feeling very impulsive - had to take this cruise kind of thinking. SO - in a nutshell - plant the seed, break it to the spouse/partner over time, until there's no getting around it.

In less than a month I get to find out if solo cruising is the BEST THING EVER. Woo hoo.;)

Oh - and another thing, I'm driving to Charleston on our 24th anniversary and starting the cruise the next day. When I booked over the phone the rep and I were discussing cruising solo; then she asked if I was celebrating anything (if yes, it will show up in your booking and sometimes you get a little something from Carnival) and I laughed and said our anniversary but I guess that doesn't count and she said sure it does - you and your husband will be celebrating, just not together. So she noted it in my booking - let's see if I get anything.;p

  2. Uber to the port question: A year ago I cruised out of Charleston on the Ecstasy, first time. We stayed overnight in Mt. Pleasant at the Days Inn just at the end of the bridge. They let us leave our car there for free. We took an Uber to the port. Problem was, the driver hadn't driven anyone to the port before and didn't know where to drop us off. We didn't know either. We ended up in the long line of cars trying to park and the port personnel couldn't, wouldn't let the driver out of the line. SO - in a few weeks I'm again staying overnight at Days Inn, planning to Uber to the port for an Ecstasy cruise. In case I'm unlucky enough to get another driver who doesn't know the port set-up, how do I instruct him or her as to where to drop me? Thanks in advance because I know you Charleston people know this and are generous with your expertise. Really. I appreciate you posters.

  3. a self proclaimed non drinker/gambler. She did a great job announcing. However, I do not like the fact she would come by while we were playing and "rub" the machine for good luck. Maybe just me.....but when she rubbed my machine...it went cold....lol....just saying.....

HA! Obviously not a gambler! Any self-respecting gambler knows it takes a lot of voodoo and dark magic and light magic to get that luck thing going . . . and staying. If someone rubbed my machine that I had just meticulously prepared to win me millions I would freak. I don't even like it when the cashier at 7-11 says good luck as she hands me my lottery tickets. Unless of course it's a Tuesday or the 5th Friday of the month - then if she doesn't wish me luck I know I'm s---wed!

Thanks for the review. The premier sounds like fun. I missed out on a premier. I was gambling on a price drop and it sold out before I booked it! Rats.

  4. Just off the Sunshine last week. I had my email and my postcard with the Casino Cash amount on it, but they did not ask for it. They had a list in the computer. It may be because it was a Premier cruise, so YMMV.

Mine is not premier, but I called Carnival this morning and the rep said they no longer do the email thing - I just have to go to the casino cage and they'll look up my booking. Hopin' that's true.

  5. I booked a casino deal on a September Carnival cruise. The deal was for a reduced cabin rate, which I got, and casino cash. In the past when I booked a deal with casino cash I received an email showing the amount with instructions to bring the email to the casino to get the cash. And the casino wouldn't give the cash without the email. I haven't gotten an email this time. Does anyone know if this procedure has changed? Do I just go to the casino on the first day and they'll be able to look up my booking and see the casino cash?

  6. I love the Ecstasy. It's a small ship with a lot of outdoor deck space. When I sail her I utilize all that space for a good morning workout walk. You can go around the lido deck to the back and take the stairs down to the serenity deck, cross that to the other steps and back up and around then up to the deck with the jogging track, around the jogging track a time or two, then onto another loop around the ship. You'll see what I mean once you wake up for your first onboard morning walk. I was in Nassau once and what mz-s said. Enjoy!

  7. They did the Egg Drop on the Ecstasy last year, it was a kid's camp thing where they had to build their egg vessel with various items found around the ship (cups, napkins, toilet paper, etc) and then the CD Ben hosted the egg drop in the atrium and they dropped their creation from deck 9 down to deck 7. I was really amusing to watch :D

I was on the Ecstasy in the fall of 2016 and they did the egg drop competition but I remember it being open to everyone, not just a kids club activity - and Ben hosted the the drop in the atrium. I concur - that was very much fun.
