  1. Because it's the offered entertainment. Entertainment has not been a la carte up till now, and yet the room was always SRO, yet Carnival oddly cut it in half on one of their ships so far. And if you didn't go, you didn't get a refund. Same as if you didn't eat.

And yet oddly more still, a portion of your tip money now goes to entertainment.

I'm not really sure what you are saying, but I didn't read where your tip money is distributed any different. Where did you read that ?

  2. Good point, but a specialty restaurant is different than a concert from a nationally recognized artist.

I guess the whole concert idea seems silly when you put it that way.

This seems to be a specialty cruise, if you ask me.

I guess demand will prove its merit in due course.

You're right, this May or may not go over very well. Only time will tell

  3. I noticed that its extra once your on there, which is even more perplexing to me. Why wouldn't they just build it into the price? .

That would make even less since, why have a cheers program, just build it in to the price. Why charge for the steakhouse, just build it in to the price. The reason is because not everyone wants it, why make them pay for it. And they do have some cruises where this type of stuff is built into the price, these are called specialty cruises.

  4. The artists listed are ones that play small venues (small auditoriums, county fairs and amusement parks). So I would say no to this particular group. Couple hit wonders and has beens.

Nothing against them, because many have great songs and are talented.

Its just not worth the extra charge to cruise.

Now for me if Dave Matthews Band, U2, Springsteen or Jimmy Buffett had a concert on there, that's another story. Definitely would consider it.

I am a fan of smooth jazz and most of the line ups on those charters are impressive. In total they are definitely worth the upcharge.

For starters there is no extra charge to cruise, only if you go to the concert. Second I personally couldn't care less about any of the artists you mentioned, so it goes to show you can't please 100% of the people, no matter who you have playing.

  5. If there is an object sharp enough to cause a gash in someone's leg when being used properly, it is their fault. And a good business would at least take care of the medical treatment associated with such a mishap as a gesture of good faith. Now, if she was standing on the toilet and fell off, that's her fault. Let's see how you feel when something happens to you or your family. Smh

How do you it was used " properly " ? It is a piece of hardware mounted on the wall that thousands of people use without incident, one person cuts herself and now it's a design flaw, now I'm SMH. People get injured in numerous ways every day, we just don't all think we have to blame someone else.

  6. Good morning cruisers. Setting sail on the Sunshine today. Has anyone been on recently that knows about what time they start to board the platinum guests? We like to be early. Thanks in advance for your help.

They have started as early as 1100, but really just depends on what time they get the ship cleared.

  7. In this case, the injury came about due to not paying attention to her own limitations in an environment thousands have used without incident. If an injury was from a plate breaking and cutting her, the injury would be a covered event because it was indeed an accident.

Sorry but those definitions fit to a T. It was an unfortunate incident, therefor accident,

  8. In this case, the injury came about due to not paying attention to her own limitations in an environment thousands have used without incident. If an injury was from a plate breaking and cutting her, the injury would be a covered event because it was indeed an accident.

Did she do it on purpose ? Sounds like an accident to me

  9. We like to play trivia on the ship. When we played on Pride 17 months ago, the questions were new for us (though some questions pop up that are used in other trivia venues, Jeopardy, etc). We had some game wins to make it more fun.

When we cruised Pride 12 months later, it seemed like there was about 25% repetition. How did our memories serve us? We figured we averaged about one more correct per game, if that! And this repetition of questions occurs on competitors' lines also. The bigger problem, to me, is the cruise line recycling questions because it is easy for them.

And for the feeling of frustration some get facing repeated games. . . When we recently sailed a competitor's line, there were those who played trivia every game who had been on the ship for about two consecutive months. The staff pointed this out! Needless to say, they were familiar with more than a few questions. But I don't blame them for playing. They like trivia and the weather kept people indoors. Not many other choices. They did not win every game. Again, the company should have been changing the games up.

And we still had fun playing. We won a few times and if we finished second to an experienced team, we considered it a win!

I never saw any evidence of cheating or questionable self-scoring on the Pride. Actually, integrity prevailed.

If you like to play, go ahead and have fun.

Exactly, play to have fun, If you win great, If you don't win it's still fun

  10. If you're gonna compare it to a sport, it's like giving one side 2 footballs, or 4 outs, or triple faults, etc.

No it's more like a rookie in his first year against veterans that have played for years, the only advantage the veterans have is experience, their not given extra footballs or outs or triple faults.

  11. I've always wanted to play but don't because of the people who play on every cruise and are sure to win. :(

You're playing to have fun, you don't have to win to have fun. If you never play you will never win. Nobody starts off playing at the top of anything they are playing, it takes multiple times, if you play you will get better. Just like a sport, who at the top of their sport started off at the top ?

  12. The source of the problem is Carnival not recycling the games/questions.

And yes, if I start playing and know the answers, I leave.

Yes Carnival does need to switch up the answers.

How do you know your going to know all the answers ? I have heard repeat questions mixed with new ones.

  13. Yeah, but how would you like to play against someone where you have not been exposed to the questions before, but they have?

That's just part of any game you play, nobody is great at it in the beginning, the more you play the better you get. How would you propose the people who like trivia go about it then ? Just not play.

  14. It's fun till you realize there are people cheating, or have played before and know the answers.

I'll agree with you on the cheating part, but just because people play a lot and remember the answers doesn't take the fun out of it. Some people actually had more fun trying to beat my wife and I because we seen the same people at most of the trivia games, it was a challenge they had fun with. Since we didn't keep the SOAS other people still got the trophy.

  15. You have hit the nail on the head:)

I hate it, as so many trivia players do, when certain couples who know the answers from previous cruises take all the SOAS.

We all know who they are and probably sell the ships on ebay.

I agree, I see them on eBay as well. I can assure you we don't keep them, we either let the second place person/team take them, or give them to someone.

  16. Although I'm aware there are some people who cheat by writing down the answers as they are being given, there other things to consider. 1) a lot of these trivia questions are the same on several ships, the more you play the more you remember from cruise to cruise. 2) And I'm guilty of this one, when people take B2B cruises, the trivia games are the exact same in most cases. I don't consider that cheating, if you like trivia you like trivia. The ships need two sets of trivia questions. With that said, we win several trivia's on the first of the B2B cruises, and more on the second, but we only keep one ship on a stick per ship.

  17. Yep, we had a blast. But due to self checking of answers we felt it was a bit too easy for some to cheat if they felt so inclined. We still had fun with our 75% correct average. Drinking helps.

That was the one thing I liked about the lead person doing trivia on the Conquest, she made everybody switch papers.

  18. Doesn't seem like any of the above has happened to my account ever. I look up on linethe cruise and cabin I want then call and speak to whomever answers the phone. Never once have I been given a name or extension. When I call again to change something, I speak to someone else. If I don't believe I'm getting correct info, I ask to speak to the supervisor.

    I wonder why.

    Exactly how I do it.

  19. Thanks for all the insights. I believe next time I will book online. Since practice makes perfect, I must book more cruises, right? :D

All that matters is that you're booked, congratulations on that. I don't use PVP's, I find my cruise online, room and everything, then I call and book with whomever answers the phone, as long as I can understand them.

  20. If you do not book ES then yes you can cancel and rebook your cruise before final payment and you will keep your OBC. If you go to that little seminar or whatever they call it, they will tell you to do that. You can always change your fare code to ES later if you want, and it's offered.
