  1. Sorry didn't realize someone replied to a 6 year old post bringing it to the top...

I'm sorry - I couldn't figure out how to send a message directly to the OP, so I was hoping that quoting the post would get their attention to answer. Didn't mean to cause confusion.

  2. I'm thinking about getting a new tattoo while in Ketchikan on Sun 9/11. I'll be on the CCL Spirit and we'll only be docked there in the morning hours, leaving port at about 1pm. Is this possible?

I do know that this post is from a long time ago.... but I've just started checking out Alaska Ink.

did you end up going there?

If so, any yay or nay about it?

  3. Based on reading all of this, it now has me questioning this: I had believe that the PVSA was that a passenger couldn't board in one US City, then disembark in another US City. I've got that part.

Then now, about the "distant foreign port", and I understand why an Alaskan cruise stops in Victoria.

My question - doing a round trip Seattle to Alaska, where passengers are embarking and disembarking at the same port, why does that have to stop in Canada? But then how do Hawaii cruises work? without a distant foreign port?

No dog in the fight, just a curiosity that I've thought about for quite some time...

  4. Also under Princess' new guidelines, you have to have pre-paid for your excursions to be marked "Confirmed." So by that term it shows Princess you have paid for that excursion. But I agree with SKNIGHT. I always bring backup paperwork or on my phone just in case!!!

    Pooh

We actually come under an itinerary that doesn't have to be prepaid (On Carnival we always had to pay if we booked an excursion ahead of time, so I was ready for that - but I happened to start doing my research for excursions while Princess was going back & forth - we prepaid our biggest one when it had to be prepaid. Then they changed it back, and then I booked the rest. So they do all show confirmed, even though they hadn't been paid yet).

We have actually now prepaid all of the excursions, so I am definitely following the advice of printing all of my emails that show the payments we've made.

    Thanks so much!

  5. I'm new to Princess, and just printed my boarding passes and travel summary.

On my travel summary it does show all of my excursions, and shows "confirmed".

We have already prepaid one of these, but it doesn't specify it anywhere on this summary page.

    Is it supposed to?

When I go into my account, it does indeed show that amount paid.

    Thank you!

  6. I am going to sound like a newbie traveller, and I'm not, but I know for Caribbean cruises, you can cruise without a passport.

We are going on an Alaskan cruise next month - is that treated the same way? (I once was very familiar with the rules for a friend who did not have a passport, but I haven't had to think about it in quite some time, and now I'm just curious...)

  7. At every port there is usually an internet café that is a fraction of the coast or bar with FREE wifi. So, have a local beer and e-mail away! ;p

For this cruise, it's Alaska, so the majority of our ports are US, and our data will work. But I have definitely done that in the Caribbean!

  8. Thank you all!!

Such a wealth of info! I love getting direct answers :)

I'm thinking I might use my dry-erase marker and keep a tally on the mirror so nobody can say they didn't know they were using so much - LOL!

  9. This may be somewhere on the board, but I did search the best I could and can't find an answer.

If we use the internet package on our phone, when we log off (or even during the use) is there a timer to keep track of minutes? (the only times we've purchased internet on board we had to get Unlimited for my daughter to do online homework, because we pulled her out of school).

    Thank you!

  10. Thanks for the answer about the blue bags!

Bibble - My dinner dress on casual nights was usually a light, long-sleeved blouse and trousers or a long-sleeved dress. I find that my arms get cold otherwise, but a turtleneck is definitely too warm. The ship is usually kept in the high 60's to low 70's, but it can get cold out on the decks, especially when we're doing 20 knots, or quite warm in a full public room. Layers work best for both the ship and tours.

    Thank you! that helps!!

  11. That was great!!!! We are going the first week of August. I'm so used to Carnival and caribbean cruises, that I'm starting to feel like a fish out of water where Alaska is concerned, and Princess, too! Looking forward to a new experience!!

I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind humoring me :)

    1) Did anyone in your cabin have a chance to notice if the hair dryer was decent? (Marriott level, versus Motel 6 hold-the-button-while-you-dry-your-hair level?)

    2) You mentioned for formal night there were sleeveless dresses. But other nights, were women still looking "summery"? Again, coming from Florida, I keep picturing everyone walking around the ship in turtlenecks even though it's summer. If you could give any insight on that, I'd much appreciate it!

    3) what are blue bags that there were none of?

I guess I had less questions than I thought :)

    Thank you!

  12. We booked a cabin.....mostly all inclusive, with staniel cay, a year in advance to swim with the pigs. Bucket list !

and includes your own boat. :D

    Please tell me more!!!

How are you getting to Staniel Cay? Do they have an airport?

  13. We were at the White Horse last spring. I would say it was pretty quiet. We wanted to go because we also cruised to Bermuda ('95) and remember having lunch near the pier. The only restaurant near the pier is the White Horse.

I would offer as a plan B option, take the mini bus to Horseshoe Bay for some beach time, and then hit the Frog and Onion Pub before getting onboard. The Frog and Onion at the Dockyard was fairly lively, and much more entertaining

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Thank you! that sounds perfect :)

  14. Thank you!!!

the White Horse Pub definitely looks like it!!

The scheduling sounds good if we are going to try to do both spots... But I'll definitely have a plan B :)

Right now it sounds great to go down memory road and see what we did so many years ago, but by then, a beach and a fruity drink might just be enough - LOL!

  15.

As for the bar, do you remember any part of its name; was it on the waterfront in St George's or Hamilton? Did the bar have a specialty drink? Was it near a tourist attraction?

    SBtS

I was afraid it wouldn't be so easy to see as much :(

The bar was in st George near the waterfront. More of a pub. Lots of marina folks there. If I recall right, it was up some stairs. But my recollection is fuzzy. Other than the pretend wedding I had with a sailboat mate and we got "married" but the "captain" of said sailboat.

I'm going to dig out pictures and see if any at all have part of a name or such.

Any idea how long the ferry takes from the shipyard over to St George?

  16. Last time I went to Bermuda was 1992. We docked in St. George until very late, then moved to Hamilton, and stayed there overnight. To say we did "a lot" is an understatement (also, we were very young - 2 23 year old girls having the time of our lives!)

Next time I go, we will be docking at the shipyard from 9:00-5:00.

I don't recall distances, or public transportation, etc, at all...

Would it be feasible to do stuff in both locations in one day?

Or are we better off picking one, and doing stuff around there, and ferrying back to ship?

(we are looking for: some beach time, maybe something like a waverunner tour, some cool hang-out bar (truth be told, I think we are going to "attempt" to find one we hung out in back in 1992. Probably not there anymore...).

    Thank you!

  17. If you can swing it, I wholeheartedly recommend passports even for kids.

Like the previous poster stated, definitely good in an emergency.

My 14 year old daughter has had hers since she was 2.

If something happens and you have to fly home, yes, there are ways to get them on the flight, but some countries are easier to work with than others.

For cruising, passports for everyone is nice peace of mind.

  18. Here is a recent thread discussing third passenger in a balcony cabin. Crown is sister to Ruby.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2399668

Oh thank you so much for this link!!! I don't know sister ships, etc, for Princess so I was afraid to go by any other ship names.

This link was great, to see the picture of how it's set up.

Now I have 10 months for my husband to decide if he'd rather be interior and we sleep in the same bed, or a big beautiful balcony and sleep separate... (with a 14 year old daughter in the bunk, truly it's not like it will matter - LOL!

  19. Thank you all for your help!!!!

Some will accommodate a rollaway and some will have an extra berth.

For safety reasons if the upper berth is used then the lower beds cannot be put together, or at least they are not supposed to be.

That explains a lot. I'm not able to visualize where the upper would be that the bottoms would have to be separate, but at least I know it's not a website glitch when it doesn't give me the option for the twins to be together as a queen/king.
