Data clearly shows that the viral load is orders of magnitude higher with Delta, even in asymptomatic cases.  With the other variants the data indicated that vaccination prevented transmission even in break through cases.

With Delta that is not the case the viral load, even in breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals can infect others.  Thus the change in the mask guidance.

You need to look at the data from Singapore not the 400+ cases from Massachusetts.   The Singapore data shows high viral loads only exist for a very short time.

I believe that's the entire reason for the "testing everyone" before check in process.  That virtually eliminates anyone over 2 years old who is infected with the virus, asymptomatic or not.

Many of us will test at home before we fly to Florida.  The pre-boarding test will not pick-up any inflections we pick-up traveling to Florida or in Florida before the cruise.  I'm not sure the pre-boarding test will help much for cruises leaving from Florida or other hot spots (re Texas).

    Thanks.  I get it.

I’ve traveled a lot for my previous job (now retired).  Not bragging, more like reminiscing, but I was stuck away from home in KS when 9/11 grounded me…for a week (ended up finally finding a rental car available which cost me well into 5 figures).  I was at work when I suffered a heart attack in the back woods of IL, by myself.  I’ve was in San Francisco during their last big earthquake and could not leave the city (for a whole host of reasons).

I'm glad things turned out well for you but please remind me not to cruise with you.  😉

In response to your second question…I don’t think you will be able to board the plane if you don’t have the test done. The ArriveCAN app requires all the information. A family  member recently went to the US on business. Needed test done before leaving for airport, had another administered at the airport all prebooked, then required one to come back and had to do another on arrival. All at her own expense.

Are you sure you need to pay for 4 tests?  I thought Celebrity did complimentary tests before you left the ship and that should be good to fly and let you enter Canada.

kinda feel bad that I started the never ending elite benefit argument tho lol

Also, I wondered just how bad the surf wifi is?

So who do you call?   Captain's Club?  Any reservations agent even if you used a TA?

Looks like Celebrity has reconsidered one of its policies.  The email I received had this sentence:

"Should a guest be unable to complete the testing requirements, a 100% refund or Future Cruise Credit will be offered."

which was also what was on their website yesterday but now their official website policy has been revised to read:

"Should a guest be unable to complete the testing requirements, a Future Cruise Credit will be offered."

LOL, I wonder who was fired because they included the "R" word in the policy initially.

Maybe it's time to bring out the lawyers.  If I purchased the cruise with the option of a 100% refund, I'm not sure they can change it.

I received this at 10:15 Sunday morning regarding my 8/21 cruise.  Nothing about the 72 hour test, which I received in an email yesterday.  I'll be getting tested regardless.

I got the same e-mail for my 8/15 Equinox cruise.  It will be interesting to see if they have to correct this e-mail or if they are dropping the testing requirement.

  8. I'm sure Canada was doing the best they could but it's all about safety on the cruise ships.  The mix of effectiveness of  a mix of vaccines has not been verified by rigorous studies.  Until this is complete, Celebrity needs to hold the line and require fully vaccinated people to have 2 shots (or 1 for J&J) of an approved vaccine to be considered vaccinated cruisers.  Anyone with a mix of vaccines can still sail as an unvaccinated cruiser.  It's all about safety.

On the 7/3 sailing which was 58% capacity the suites were 100% sold.   A concierge told me that 30% of all passengers on the ship were suite guests.

This was the third sailing so kinks should have been worked out on the prior 2 sailings and thing should be getting better, not worse.

If you are going to arrive before your assigned time you are going to be waiting outside.  The whole issue is they are not allowing people to congregate in the terminal.  They are not letting people into the terminal before the ship is ready for boarding.   You get checked in as you enter the terminal and go straight onboard the ship.

    Sounds like a great system.

While I understand the OP frustration, there are fewer people staying in suites than in "regular" cabins. This issue needs to be resolved for future sailing for all who are boarding the ship.

Absolutely true.  Celebrity needs to enforce the arrival times to keep the entire process moving smoothly.  Even for the suite guests.

The last cruise we were on the waiters were selling tables in the lounge to the highest bidders and putting drinks on the tables to reserve them.  Some people didn't show up until 20 minutes later and just went right to their reserved tables while other people stood up.  I thought it was a pretty poor practice, but the concierge said it's how they make extra tips.  So, in a sense, they are starting to charge for use of the room anyway.

    Tom

I’m sorry, I think I have to call BS on this one.  Never seen or heard of anything like this.
