  1. I would like to know about others experiences with theft from their cabin safes. After an extremely lovely cruise on Allure (review to come), the theft of money and medications from our cabin safe while on Labadee, left a bad taste in our mouth. Much worsened by the way security handled the situation, and kept changing their instructions to us and their poor follow up. Worsened by fact that we had requested the safe be replaced multiple times during the cruise due to problems with locking it and having to call staff to assist in this. So we return from Labadee to a closet and safe wide open and alarm in bathroom blaring. Both closet and safe had been closed when left. Honestly, if not concerned for those who would cruise after us, I would not have even reported the theft since knew would not get items back. So when we did reluctantly report out of a sense of responsibility to others, the confusing and changing instructions to us from security and the mess we were put through really was not the way we wanted to top off our trip. Because of this, I would like more info as to how common this is. I wish I had never reported it at all because it would not be doubly upsetting. It would have been just a theft. RCCL will be hearing from me when I can figure the best way to do so.

  2. Allure- what to do on ship if say on board on port days. Cruising on 13th. Appreciate some suggestions about what to do on the 2 port days me and my scooter will stay on board. Will check GC out of kids club to take to a better lunch but have no other plans. What to others enjoy on port days. Are Flow rider and zipline working on port days if wanted to take oldest GC to do that for a while ? If open, I assign might be less busy. Making memories with GC is main object of cruise for me within my limitations.

  3. Still can not find out if anyone gets charged for towels if people or "towel patrol police" remove them. I will get in my where my family knows I am set up and where to find me seat where I am comfortable if I can. But I will have 7 grandchildren saying come watch me in different pools , hot tubs, flow rider both sides and other activities on pool deck. So for the few hour I go out to pool deck I anticipate being called away from my chair a lot. Since I will not leave the ship at 2 ports they will want to share with me. But I cannot sit on my scooter the whole time and must rest my neck and back. If someone removes my towel, clips, and bag , will accept gracefully. Hope to retrieve my actual belongings. But just want to know if I will be charged for the towel if it disappears. Do they actually do that?

  4. I redeemed OBC for the first time a few weeks ago, and saw that the different codes (for $ redeemed) have different descriptions. It looks like you can use the $100 OBC only for specialty dining or the drink package. Is this true/new, or is it just a way for us to think we can not use it for gratuities?

I have attached screen shots with the different descriptions:

you were not looking at all options! I had this problem at first. Look for the number I believe is above that gives the number of options to choose from select all. Instead of 6. For gratuities need to leave on account and let the deduct daily.

  5. My personal point on this issue is should need a doctors note to get one of those rooms just like you need a note to get a handicap sticker for your car.

I agree. I am sailing and flying with 4 different Doctors notes just to get my stuff there. Anyone needing a HC cabin just because must sit in shower or needs grab bars to be safe because are a great risk for falls, even if they are not in a wheelchair or scooter would be able to get a doctors note.

  6. There are too few HC cabins available. If you are booking a very last minute cruise only a couple of months out AND you are totally upfront with Royal that you have no actual reason to require the cabin then It is up to them I guess. But there are HC people who want to book last minute cruises also so you would be denying them. I had a difficult time booking a HC cabin for a cruise with my family on the Allure way back in September for cruise starting on Sunday. I hate that anyone who did not actually have real reason to book HC cabin would do so because is a larger cabin and balcony. And no, I do not consider that just because a person uses a scooter on the cruise qualifies you or me. I have cruised with a scooter and kept it in regular cabin despite fact that I was legally disabled and needed some of the other options of HC cabin but did not book HC as hated to deny someone who might need even. On Royal ships, I either have to book HC cabin or pay more for a Jr Suite because I cannot stand in the shower and a regular cabin will not allow me to sit so must book a cabin with a tub. Between Scooter, showering needs, needing grab bars and my daily IVs and fact that I spend much of cruises in the cabin, I have gotten over my reservations about booking HC cabins but unfortunately they are just so hard to secure.

  7. They make you check out towels now right? Has anyone ever been charged for a towel because it was removed because they were being a chair hog? OK now, if you do not admit it, at least Have You Heard of someone else being charged for a towel because their towel was removed?

  8. After hearing so much about this topic, I was surprised and pleased when after redeeming points from both my and DH card and my card it showed up Online a Royal site in less than a week and I was able to use for purchases. Our cruise begins Sunday. It was only a month out when I redeemed points. When I redeemed I was able to print a confirmation of each OBC then an email from them arrived for each, and surprise, surprise also showed up on royal site..For once I got lucky and something worked as it should.

  9. I know my son is making reservations with someone he has used before for transportation and for Kayaks for them DH and DIL father.

DD and SIL and possibility some of their kids may water taxi over. I will warn them about arranging transportation. After seeing the pics in the link I am a little sorry I will be on boat with some GC. Too early and too much for me. Labadee will have to do me. Been to St Marten many times but never to Penal Island. Perhaps next time DH and I cruise there alone we will try the water taxi if he enjoys the location. Then I would not be holding anyone back.

  10. I know your intentions are good but in an emergency, if the children are assigned to different muster stations, they will not be allowed to stay with you. You will all be required to go to your assigned muster stations.

If I am alone with them I will take them to their station first and unless are off the ship other adults in our party will be there for them. Then I will go to mine. Highly unlikely of happening. Just wanted to know if anyone is aware of how they do things. Royal did say to go to guest services and be changed to same one as my party. I just wanted to see if that seemed unreasonable to do that. TA did not think would be an issue. She just hated she could not do it herself at this point, possibly as sailing so soon. I was going to ignore her instructions then realized that at least in 2 ports I will be onboard with the children by myself. Yes, I know if in kids club will be taken to their station but I will be checking them out for lunch and anything else they want on those days. I likely will have some kids with me in my cabin from time to time also so I need to think it through before I ignore instructions given. OF course, if there ia a good reason I am in a different muster station, I would not presume to press the issue. I might have a hard time finding their muster station to deliver kids to, wrist band or not.

  11. No clue about scooters, but question... You say it is on your SetSail Pass - is it the letter in the little grey box?

Light grey box says muster station and E01 is under the words. Was not on the earlier setsail pass I printed up so if she had not given me another would not know.

  12. My R disappeared when I posted! TA just gave me these instructions. I will not separate a 3 and 4 year old from the only adult with them. If I am the one with them and there will be times they will be with me w/o their parents, even times their parents will be off the ship. Older kids 7-11 not such an issue. Our cabins are located near each other and all other cabins in our party are assigned the same muster station. I assume might be because I am in an accessible cabin and using a scooter. TA called Royal and these are instructions given. Since I can walk and stand some I question weather to ignore the TAs instructions and skip the issue, but what if I am with the little ones and something comes up. They either go with me or I go with them. In a real emergency if all 7 are with me till I reunite them with a parent or another adult in our party, we will all stay together. The parents will also know my muster station if we do not change it.

  13. New version of my SetSail Pass from TA has muster drill station assignment. A note was attached that I should go to guest relations on boarding and have it changed to the same one as others in my group. I might need to take grandchildren to muster station in an emergency. I wondered about this. Is there a special Muster station for scooters? I will be using one, so wondered if assigned a different one due to that. Muster Station is EO1 on the Allure.

  14. Cruise around corner. Usually bring hard copies of everything on cruise.Yes I am aware of vital copies I should have with us. Set sail passes, airline info, any email confirmations of everything for cruise, OBC, reservations etc...,Important personal info, extra copy of drivers license, passport, insurance cards, credit card phone contact numbers, contact info. But in this modern age do I really need to bring a paper copy of cruise contract? I already have bring so many confirmations for medical issues. Do I really need to bring full Travel insurance document? Yes, I know I need the travel insurance number and contact phone number but the plan info is in an email folder online. With flight weight limitations, trying to figure what I actually do not need to bring with me since all are in email folders online anyway and will have voom package. What do most of actually bring hard copies of? How do you limit the paper? Or do you? If I do not slim it down, I will have 5lbs of paper documents to carry with me.

  15. Info Special Needs at Sea (Special Needs Group) recently told me they rent mobility scooters at the kiosk at pier on sailing day and also informed me that on the Allure actually rent some on the ship. This may depend on the number of rentals needed on an individual cruise - so would not count on this. I would reserve one even at the last minute before cruise if fear of having to cancel is an issue. If it helps, tell them that after I was disabled at 31 I kept waiting to be able to walk it to do Disney, cruises etc... with my kids and wasted a lot of time before I finally accepted the situation, then wished I had done so earlier. Does not mean they are "getting old. Lots of young ones are on scooters on the ship. Getting around the smaller ships was one thing, these monsters is another thing entirely. If I walked from one end of Allure to other on day one, I would be stuck in bed the rest of the week, in agony, and have to be wheeled off ship, and the only place I would go all week would be to be wheeled for massages and acupuncture in the spa. If they have managed on a cruise ship of this size w/o scooter in the recent past and truly know what they are dealing with- then more power to them. If not, I would rent one for them and let them choose to use or not use it. The $185 will be best money spent. Personally at 84, my Mom is harder to reason with as she is declining rapidly and we have to make some choices for her whether she likes it or not. I am not saying your parents are declining. But mine is. My family puts it to me that if I do not take care of myself they cannot enjoy themselves. When I was in my 30s and 40s on a scooter, I would hear people say things questioning why I needed to do so. I hated that. At their ages this would never happen. I celebrate any day I am well enough to be out of bed and go somewhere on a scooter. Any day I am vertical (rather than horizontal) even if sitting on a scooter, is a good day and I feel blessed.
